Chris Johnson extended his hitting streak to nine games on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with an RBI in a win over the Astros.

The heater has raised his overall line to .284/.303/.367, and we may soon see him move back up in the batting order to capitalize on his hot bat.

Thu Jun 19 201422:03Johnson drives in all 3 runs as Braves win
Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Thursday's win over the Nationals.
Johnson helped the Braves avoid falling to .500, knocking in two with a single in the fourth inning and another with a single in the eighth. It was more than enough for Gavin Floyd and the bullpen. Johnson has had multiple hits in seven of his last 11 games, and is now slashing .278/.297/.359 with 20 RBI overall.

Tue Jun 10 201401:45Chris Johnson goes 3-for-4 in win
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBI against the Rockies on Monday.
Even with a .260 average, Johnson has been one of the league's worst regulars this year thanks to his usual subpar defense, a pathetic walk rate (60/5 K/BB in 231 AB) and very limited power (11 doubles, zero triples, two homers). At least he was okay tonight, though.

Sun May 25 201422:06Johnson hits second homer in win over Rockies
Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Rockies on Sunday.
The homer was just Johnson's second this year and his first since the third game of the season. It's been a disappointing season for the third baseman after a breakout 2013, as he's hitting .264/.286/.354 with 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 48 games. He's not a mixed league entity at this stage of the season.

Thu May 22 201422:56Johnson logs three hits in win over Brewers
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's win over the Brewers.
All three hits were singles. Johnson had entered Thursday's game with one hit in his previous five games spanning 21 plate appearances. After hitting a robust .321 last season, Johnson is only hitting .266 with the second month of the season nearly complete.

Sat May 10 201400:08Chris Johnson goes 3-for-4, knocks in two
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs Friday against the Cubs.
Those are just the sixth and seventh RBI in 33 games this season for Johnson, who spent most of April as the Braves' cleanup man. The team is committed to him, so unlike Dan Uggla, his job isn't at risk. Hopefully, this is the start of better times for him.

Tue May 6 201421:59Johnson drives in winning run vs. Cardinals
Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.
Johnson had one of three hits off Cardinals starter Tyler Lyons, and against reliever Pat Neshek he broke a 1-1 tie with an opposite field single. His hits have come in bursts -- he's got three multi-hit performances and five hitless games in his last eight starts -- and the third baseman is hitting .246/.275/.325 overall this year.

Sat May 3 201422:08Chris Johnson goes 0-for-4 in loss to Giants
Chris Johnson finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Braves' loss to the Giants on Saturday.
Johnson is now batting .235/.269/.324 in 28 games this season. He had a very good 2013, but that kind of offensive production never seemed sustainable and the 29-year-old third baseman is regressing in a major way right now. It was odd timing that the Braves signed him to a three-year, $23.5 million contract this week.

Fri May 2 201413:04Braves announce $23.5M extension for Johnson
Braves signed 3B Chris Johnson to a three-year, $23.5 million contract extension.
The deal also includes a $10 million option for 2018, so the Braves will have bought out one and possibly two years of free agency. Johnson earned the extension last season with a .321/.358/.457 batting line with 12 homers and 68 RBI. He's off to a .255/.290/.351 start this season, but the Braves obviously think he's capable of being closer to the 2013 version.

Thu May 1 201422:28Johnson celebrates extension with 3 hits
Chris Johnson, with the ink still wet on his three-year extension with the Braves, went 3-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.
Johnson became the sixth player the Braves have signed to an extension lately. No doubt his .321 average had a lot to do with that. He hasn't had anywhere that kind of success at the plate this season, as his average is only up to .255 following his performance Thursday. While he should be expected to trend upwards offensively in the coming months, it's not likely he'll match his mark set last season.

Thu May 1 201419:05Braves nearing extension with Chris Johnson
Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that the Braves are nearing a contract extension with Chris Johnson.
Dierkes says the deal will extend the Braves' control of Johnson beyond his arbitration years. The financials are not yet known. The third baseman is making $4.75 million this season and had been set to hit free agency after the 2016 campaign. Johnson had a career year in 2013 with the Braves, batting .321/.358/.457 with 12 homers and 68 RBI. The timing of the extension is interesting given that he's off to a .231/.260/.330 start this season.

Fri Apr 18 201422:37Johnson has three hits, RBI vs. Mets on Fri.
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored Friday against the Mets.
Johnson has had a slow start to the season, but he now has two three-hit games in his last three games. The 29-year-old might not duplicate the .321 batting average he had last season, especially if he continues to strike out at this early pace, but he hits plenty of line drives and uses the whole field. It should help him come pretty close to another .300 season.

Wed Apr 16 201421:40Johnson singles three times in Braves' win
Chris Johnson singled three times in four at-bats in Wednesday's win over the Phillies.
Johnson, who hit .321 last season, hasn't been as solid with the bat in the early going, entering Wednesday night's game hitting .239. It's back up to .280 now.

Thu Apr 10 201423:18Chris Johnson strikes out four times
Chris Johnson wore the Golden Sombrero on Thursday by striking out all four times he was up against the Mets.
Johnson has a 10/1 K/BB ratio and just two RBI in nine games as the Braves' cleanup man. Why Fredi Gonzalez continues to stick with a lineup that was a bad idea in the first place is hard to understand. Going into the night, the Braves were 29th in baseball in runs per game, with only the Padres behind.

Wed Apr 2 201415:58Chris Johnson homers for Braves' lone run
Chris Johnson launched a solo homer for the only run of the game in Wednesday's win over the Brewers.
The seventh inning longball actually broke up a no-hitter for Matt Garza, as the Braves managed to win despite only tallying three hits on the day. Johnson has also picked up a single and a double in his first 12 at-bats of the season and should have a healthy RBI total this year if he keeps hitting in the cleanup spot.

Braves avoided arbitration with 3B Chris Johnson by agreeing to a one-year, $4.75 million contract.
It was Johnson's first year of arbitration eligibility. The third baseman had a breakthrough in 2013, hitting .321/.358/.457 with 12 homers and 68 RBI. He figures to fall back in a big way in 2014.
