Uehara logged a perfect ninth inning, striking out one enroute to his 22nd save in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Friday night.

Uehara (22 saves, 1.45 ERA) has been spectacular again this season even though the foundering Red Sox haven't provided him with very many save chances. The team did announce they intend to make him a qualifying offer in the off-season in an attempt to secure his services beyond this year.

Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports that the Red Sox are unlikely to trade closer Koji Uehara.

The Red Sox are reportedly considering trading the likes of Jon Lester and Andrew Miller, but they apparently intend to make a qualifying offer to Uehara, who is an impending free agent. Because the qualifying offer will likely be in the area of one-year, $15 million this offseason, the thought is that he will accept. Of course, the Red Sox could trade Uehara and still re-sign him as a free agent, but there's the chance they would have to guarantee multiple years in order to do so.

Koji Uehara allowed a hit but recorded all three outs via strikeout to earn the save against the Rays on Sunday.

Uehara gave up a leadoff single to Yunel Escobar to start the ninth before fanning Sean Rodriguez, Curt Casali and Kevin Kiermaier to end it. The right-hander has now struck out 63 while walking just six in 47 2/3 innings of work. Uehara has 21 saves, a 1.51 ERA and 0.76 WHIP on the season.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Koji Uehara is "in great demand," but the Red Sox "would like to hold on to him."

The Red Sox are still seven games out in the Wild Card race and seem likely to be sellers at the trade deadline, but they apparently don't want to give up their closer. Uehara will be a free agent after the season and will turn 40 around Opening Day next year, but perhaps Boston will consider extending him or making him a qualifying offer this winter. He's been one of the best relievers in the game again in 2014, posting a 1.58 ERA and 59/6 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings.

Koji Uehara racked up his 19th save of the season on Friday, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a one-run lead against the Royals.

The 39-year-old right-hander is in the midst of another unbelievable season, registering a 1.61 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 58/6 K/BB ratio over his 44 2/3 innings, while converting 19 of his 21 save chances. As long as he remains healthy and on the field, he should continue to post elite numbers across the board.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers would be interested in a handful of Red Sox relievers should they be made available.

Rosenthal lists Koji Uehara, Andrew Miller, Burke Badenhop and Craig Breslow as potential targets. Uehara, Miller and Badenhop are all slated for free agency after the season, while Breslow has a $100,000 buyout attached to a $4 million club option for 2015.

He hasn't really been overworked over the two-week period, but age could be a factor for the 39-year-old. "I probably need to get younger," Uehara joked. Ultimately, the closer should be fine. He still sports a ridiculous 1.40 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 49/5 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 frames this season.

It's notable simply because Uehara has been so good. The closer has been more human lately, having allowed runs in three out of his last seven appearances. The Cubs put runners on second and third to lead off the ninth inning, allowing Luis Valbuena to plate a run with a sacrifice fly. Uehara's numbers are still great, though, as he has a 1.40 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and a 49/5 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings.

Koji Uehara allowed his third solo homer and his third run of the season on Wednesday, but he ended up with the win against the Twins.

Chris Parmelee snuck one over the wall in right for the third run Uehara has given up in 32 2/3 innings. Since becoming a reliever, he's allowed 28 homers and 52 runs in 252 innings, which makes for a pretty incredible ratio.

Two ground outs and a strikeout in what was yet another easy ninth inning for Uehara. The right-hander has now had 17 consecutive scoreless appearances, which has brought his ERA and WHIP down to 0.63 and 0.73, respectively. Uehara also has a 39/4 K/BB ratio and has yet to blow a save this season.

The right-hander is enjoying another fabulous season, as he's now a perfect 13-for-13 in save opportunities with a 0.65 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 38/4 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings this year.

Uehara gave up a one-out single to Chris Johnson, but was able to induce a double play grounder from Andrelton Simmons to end the ballgame. In case you haven't noticed, the Red Sox haven't been winning many games recently, so this was his first save since May 11. He now has a 0.92 ERA and 29/3 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings for the year.

It was Uehara's best outing since he returned from shoulder tightness last month. He was struggling terribly, with his ERA all of the way up to 1.32 going into the night. Tonight's perfect inning was is first since April 9.

Koji Uehara got into a bit of trouble in the ninth inning on Saturday, but managed to escape with his fifth save of the season.

Koji Uehara issued his first walk since last Aug. 5, but he struck out the other three Orioles he faced for a save Saturday.

Uehara went his last 23 regular-season innings, 13 2/3 postseason innings and then six innings this year without walking a batter before throwing ball four to Matt Wieters today. His current 11/1 K/BB ratio this season is actually worse than his mark from last year (101/9) or 2012 (43/3).
