Garcia will replace Hector Olivera at third base after he was scratched with a bruised foot. Jace Peterson will move up from sixth to second in the batting order in Olivera's place, while Garcia will bat sixth.

The rookie Olivera was recalled Tuesday as rosters expand, but the team did not initially announce him as a starter, instead listing Garcia as Tuesday's third baseman. It will instead be Olivera, who will bat sixth against Miami's Justin Nicolino.

Garcia went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Sunday's 20-6 loss to the Yankees.

The 29-year-old continues to defy expectations in the power department with 15 extra-base knocks (eight doubles, seven homers) in just 127 at-bats, but his porous .277 on-base percentage suggests he'll become an even greater liability once his slugging normalizes. Garcia's solid grasp on a regular role makes him a worthy pickup in NL-only leagues, but those in moderate-sized mixed formats should probably avoid him before the bubble inevitably bursts.

Garcia went 3-for-5 with a homer in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

Garcia hasn't exactly impressed in his first 31 games in the majors, with a .256 OBP, but he's been slugging the ball at a surprising rate, with six homers in just 114 at-bats. However, the 30-year-old has rarely shown much pop in the minors, and that combined with the horrible plate discipline he's shown (2:24 BB:K) limits his value to NL-only formats.

Garcia is out of the lineup Friday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's David O'Brien reports.

He has been an everyday player for the Braves at third base of late, but will get Friday's day game off. Pedro Ciriaco will start at third base and hit sixth Friday.

Garcia collected a pair of hits in the Braves' 2-0 loss to the Rays.

The third baseman has been getting regular playing time since late July, and now has collected five hits in his last three games. For the year, Garcia now is hitting .250 with four home runs and six RBI.

Garcia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

Garcia's run of eight straight starts will come to an end, as Chris Johnson returns to the lineup to reclaim third-base duties. A 29-year-old minor-league veteran, Garcia had his moments during his starting run -- most notably with homers in back-to-back games during the past week -- put his meager track record of production suggests he won't be able to sustain a high level of play with the Braves. Look for him to settle back into a reserve role on a more regular basis.

He's never reached double-digit homers in any season in affiliated ball.

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

The 30-year-old will come up for his second major-league stint, taking one of the two roster spots vacated by the departures of Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson. Garcia made just two plate appearances with Atlanta back in May, and his opportunities figure to be limited again this time around while serving as the team's fifth outfielder.

Left-hander Ian Thomas was recalled in a corresponding move, providing insurance for the Braves with Alex Wood (illness) scratched Friday and Eric Stults set to start in his place. The 30-year-old Garcia's promotion was a nice story, but he logged just two plate appearances during his time with the big club and it's uncertain if he'll be back anytime soon.

Garcia was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

With Phil Gosselin hitting the DL with a thumb injury, Garcia will come up from Gwinnett to fill his spot on the 25-man roster. Garcia was off to a hot start at Triple-A, hitting .351 with 21 RBI and 11 doubles in 34 games. As a utility infielder, he could see time at multiple spots, and he'll primarily compete with Pedro Ciriaco and Alberto Callaspo for at-bats while Chris Johnson (hand) remains sidelined.
