Wed Aug 14 201317:48Jacob Turner walks six in no-decision
Despite walking six batters, Jacob Turner allowed just two runs -- one earned -- in five innings against the Royals on Wednesday.
Turner struck out none -- just 38 of his 89 pitches were strikes -- but the Royals couldn't come up with any big hits against him. The performance didn't get Turner a win, but it kept his ERA under 3.00 at 2.89. He's been living dangerously lately, with his walk rate well up from where it was in his first several starts, bit hasn't bitten him yet.

Jacob Turner held the Braves to two runs and four hits in seven innings to win Wednesday.
A big reason for the team's improved play, Turner has given the Marlins seven quality start in eight tries. That he's allowed just one homer in 54 innings is something of a fluke, but he's shaping up as a very nice piece going forward.

Turner cooled down the streaking Mets by allowing just five hits (four of them singles) and one walk. He struck out three in the victory and induced 12 ground balls. The young right-hander doesn't figure to get many wins with the Marlins, but he should be relevant in NL-only formats moving forward.

Marlins recalled RHP Jacob Turner from Triple-A New Orleans.

He'll start on Friday against the Mets and is worth a look in NL-only formats.

Turner was assumed to have a rotation spot coming into camp, but he posted a rough 9.69 ERA and 5/9 K/BB ratio over 13 innings of work this spring. Wed Mar 20 201312:31Jacob Turner could begin season in minors
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com writes that there's a chance that Jacob Turner will begin the season in the minors.
Turner opened spring training as a favorite for a rotation spot, but Marlins manager Mike Redmond indicated on Tuesday that he's still competing for a job. Ricky Nolasco, Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez are already expected to be in the rotation while Wade LeBlanc is likely to be the fourth starter, so the fifth spot will come down to Turner, Kevin Slowey and John Maine. Turner has a 10.80 ERA and 4/5 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings this spring and will make his next start on Sunday.

Jacob Turner yielded four runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Turner wasn't too bad; he got seven outs on the ground and he walked just one batter. Still, he may have needed a better outing with his rotation spot on the line. The Marlins may choose to send him down later this month and go with Kevin Slowey as their fifth starter.

Sat Mar 16 201309:50Turner's rotation spot could be in jeopardy
The Miami Herald suggests that Jacob Turner's rotation spot could be in jeopardy.
In two Grapefruit League appearances, Turner has given up six earned runs and struggled with his command. Marlins manager Mike Redmond said his performance is "definitely a concern" at this stage, but with just Kevin Slowey and John Maine as fallback options, it would be a surprise if Turner didn't open the season in the starting rotation. He'll look to get back on track in his start Tuesday against the Cardinals.
