Wed Sep 11 201312:09Vogelsong admits WBC may have hurt season
Ryan Vogelsong believes he may have been adversely affected by pitching in the World Baseball Classic.
Struggling through a lost season filled with rough outings and injuries, Vogelsong pointed toward an obvious target. "I definitely have some questions whether the WBC hurt me or not," said Vogelsong. The right-hander had two spectacular starts for Team USA. "The WBC . it's a valid question," Vogelsong (5.62 ERA) said. "I'm just not sure. The only way we'll have an answer is to have an offseason of rest and come back next year. I plan on coming back strong and having a great year, and then we can blame this on the WBC if you want."

Thu Aug 15 201320:09Ryan Vogelsong roughed up Thursday
Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs over 3 2/3 frames Thursday but managed to escape with a no-decision in a 4-3 comeback win over the Nationals.
Vogelsong was pretty sharp in his first start back from the DL, but that wasn't the case in this one, as he was touched up for six runs and three walks. He certainly has the ability to turn things around, but with a 6.75 ERA and 1.75 WHIP for the season, it will be hard to trust him next week against the Red Sox.

Sat Aug 10 201301:23Ryan Vogelsong solid in return from DL
Ryan Vogelsong pitched six innings of two-run ball against the Orioles in his return from the disabled list Friday.
That's a pretty good showing considering that the Giants were weighing having him make another rehab start before activating him. Vogelsong allowed six hits, walked three and struck out four in the 103-pitch outing. He gets the Nationals next, so he should be OK to use in NL-only leagues anyway.

Vogelsong will make his return in a start against the Orioles on Friday night. The 36-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since mid-May with a fractured right hand. He had an ugly 7.19 ERA over nine starts prior to the injury, but he could be worth a flier in deeper mixed leagues down the stretch.

Ryan Vogelsong (hand) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday to start against the Orioles.
The Giants were considering giving Vogelsong another rehab start, but he convinced them he was ready by allowing just one run over his last 11 rehab innings. Though he has put up a 7.19 ERA with the big club this season, Vogelsong is worth a shot in deeper mixed leagues if he's on your waiver wire.

Mon Jul 1 201316:18Ryan Vogelsong (hand) plays catch Monday
Ryan Vogelsong (hand) played catch Monday for about five minutes from a distance of 70-80 feet.
Vogelsong told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle a few days ago that he was unable to straighten his pinkie because the muscles had atrophied while his surgically-repaired hand was in a splint, so this is a very encouraging development. Barring any setbacks, he'll continue to build up his workload over time. As of now, he's hoping to return by the end of July or the early part of August.
