LHP CC Sabathia will make his first home start since entering rehab for alcohol addiction last October when he faces the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. He last pitched at home when the Yankees clinched a wild card spot Oct. 1 against Boston. Sabathia's start will be his 200th with the Yankees and he will become the 10th pitcher in the modern era to make at least 200 starts for two teams. Sabathia will become the 17th player to do so with the Yankees and if he pitches at least 5 1/3 innings, he will reach 3,000 career innings. Sabathia last pitched in 30-degree conditions in Detroit a week ago when he allowed three runs and four hits in six innings during an 8-4 victory. He is 12-5 with a 2.61 ERA in 24 career starts against the Mariners.

LHP CC Sabathia picked up a victory in his first start of the season on Saturday and his first since admitting last year that he needed to tame his problems with alcohol before he could continue. Sabathia pitched one batter into the seventh inning and allowed four hits and three runs in New York's 8-4 victory over Detroit. He walked four, struck out three and threw 90 pitches. "He cuts the ball, sinks the ball," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said of Sabathia (1-0). "Nothing seems to be straight. He doesn't give in. As you see, he may end up walking them and try to get the next guy to hit into a double play." "I want to thank my wife, my mom," Sabathia said, noting both were toasty warm in a Comerica Park suite. "They've kind of been a rock for me." "We've always had his back," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "The guys in that (locker) room have always had his back."

CC Sabathia was scheduled to start Saturday at Detroit. "I'm looking for him to go out and give us five or six good innings," manager Joe Girardi said. "That's kind of what I expect out of all our starters the first time out." Sabathia earned a rotation spot during spring training.

The 35-year-old Sabathia is vying with RHP Ivan Nova for a starting job. A decision is expected in the next few days.
Fri Mar 25 201617:43Yankees could bump LHP Sabathia from rotation
New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia, who is owed $25 million for the 2016 season, might be headed to the bullpen. The Yankees are considering dropping Sabathia from the rotation, according to ESPN.com.Sabathia, the 35-year-old former ace, gave up two runs over five innings, striking out four while allowing six hits and a walk, in the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Thursday night."I think he's competing and I think he wants it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Sabathia. "We're going to do the best we can leaving spring training and if we have to re-evaluate we will."Sabathia was coming off a struggling start last Friday against the Baltimore Orioles in which his ERA jumped to 7.36 after giving up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. He had two bullpen sessions between starts to work on his change-up."Got some good groundballs from it, a couple swing and misses," Sabathia said Thursday night. "So, I'll continue to keep working, and hopefully it... [More]

LHP CC Sabathia made his Grapefruit League debut Tuesday, and he went two scoreless and hitless innings, allowing one walk with two strikeouts against the Marlins. It was a tumultuous 2015 for Sabathia. He dealt with right knee issues as he went 6-10 with a 4.73 ERA in 29 starts after surgery in 2014. Then just before the American League wild-card game, he admitted to an alcohol problem, leaving the team to spend 29 days in a rehab center. "Just to be back out there, it's fun to be competing again, and it went well," he said.
Mon Oct 5 201513:17CC Sabathia: To sit out postseason
Sabathia will miss the postseason after deciding to check himself into alcohol rehab, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.
There's question as to whether or not Sabathia would have made the Yankees' postseason roster anyway, but now that has been solved. With him out, it seems likely the Yankees would return Nathan Eovaldi for the ALDS if he's healthy, otherwise they may decide to go with a three-man rotation if they make it through the wild-card game.

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has elected to check himself into alcohol rehab, according to Sportsnet. Sabathia will miss the postseason as a result, although he may have been left off the postseason roster even before going into rehab. The Yankees will face the Houston Astros in a wild card game on Oct. 6, and may opt to use a three-man rotation if they advance to the American League Division Series. Sabathia released a statement Monday to address his decision. "Being an adult means being accountable. Being a baseball player means that others look up to you. I want my kids - and others who may have become fans of mine over the years - to know that I am not too big of a man to ask for help. I want to hold my head up high, have a full heart and be the type of person again that I can be proud of. And that's exactly what I am going to do. I am looking forward to being out on the field with my team next season playing the game that brings me so much happiness."

Sabathia (6-10) won the AL East-clinching game Thursday, tossing five innings of one-run ball against the Red Sox. He struck out three and walked three.
Once a workhorse, Sabathia isn't able to pitch deep into games too often these days -- even though he gave up only seven earned runs in his final five starts of the season, he averaged less than six innings per start both in that span and throughout the year. The 35-year-old lefty finishes the regular season with a 4.73 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 167.1 innings, which aren't pretty numbers for a guy who's going to start for the Yankees in the playoffs.

Sabathia allowed four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three over 6.2 innings of a 5-2 loss to the White Sox on Friday night.
Sabathia (5-10, 4.82 ERA) still tosses a decent game now and then, but those performances are spacing out further all the time. He had been enjoying a solid September (1-0, 1.04 ERA in three starts) but his days of being a dominant pitcher may be a thing of the past.

Sabathia overcame a rough first inning Sunday night to hold the Mets to one run over six innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits and three walks, striking out seven.
Sabathia gave up the one run in the first inning, throwing 32 pitches over the frame, but stabilized afterward. If you used him in his two-start week, the gamble paid off handsomely. He's pitched better since coming off the DL, crediting a knee brace that's allowing him to work through the pain related to the arthritis in his knee.

Sabathia (4-9) threw 6.2 shutout innings Monday, giving up three hits and two walks while striking out six in a 4-1 win over the Rays.
The veteran southpaw is still seeking his elusive first victory since Jul. 8, as Sabathia has endured several multi-run outings and a disabled list stint in that timeframe. Sabathia's fantasy production has taken a sharp hit since his 2012 campaign, showing decreased velocity while pitching to an inflated ERA and WHIP. CC will next take the mound Monday against the Blue Jays.
Thu Sep 10 201517:46Sabathia will make next start Monday
Sabathia will make his next start Monday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
After Thursday's game was postponed, the Yankees have adjusted the rotation, and manager Joe Girardi announced Sabathia will take the hill Monday on four days of rest. Luis Severino, originally slated to pitch Thursday, will throw Friday, while some combination of Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova will handle Saturday's games.

Sabathia lasted 4.2 innings against Baltimore on Wednesday, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five.
If you had great expectations for Sabathia in his return from a stint on the DL with a knee injury, they were certainly dashed in this outing. Of course, it's hard to expect much from a guy with Sabathia's numbers, and it's to his credit that he was able to keep the Yankees in the game. So hey, there's real-life value there, but you're not getting much of anything out of Sabathia in fantasy.

Sabathia (knee) threw about 60 pitches in a simulated game Friday and is on pace to start Wednesday against the Orioles, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
It's hard to be very optimistic about Sabathia going forward, as he is sporting a 5.27 ERA since the start of 2014. However, for those desperately chasing wins or strikeouts there could be some utility down the stretch in deep formats.

Fri Sep 4 201511:22Sabathia (knee) will face live hitters Friday
Sabathia (knee) will face live hitters Friday, the NY Post reports.
Sabathia has thrown two bullpen sessions this week, the most recent one coming Wednesday, and could be in line to rejoin the rotation if all goes well Friday. The lefty was placed on the DL with inflammation in his right knee on Aug. 24, so he's not eligible to be activated until Tuesday, but the team seems hopeful that this will be the last step in his rehab.

Thu Sep 3 201511:57Sabathia (knee) threw bullpen session Wednesday
Sabathia (knee) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, The Westchester Journal News reports.
It was Sabathia's second bullpen session since landing on the disabled list, so the next step appears to be facing live hitters. The lefty was reportedly open to accepting a bullpen job once he returned, though general manager Brian Cashman indicated the Yankees still view the 35-year-old strictly as a starter, so Sabathia will likely rejoin the rotation once healthy.
