Sat Jul 19 201416:11Simon goes five innings in loss to Yankees
Alfredo Simon yielded four runs (two earned) over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday.
Simon gave up five hits (including a solo homer to Carlos Beltran) and one walk while notching four strikeouts. This was his first loss since way back on May 27. The All-Star right-hander has been one of the biggest surprises in the game this season with a 2.74 ERA over 19 starts. We wouldn't be surprised to see him wear down during the second half, but he's been a life-saver for the Reds until this point.

Sun Jul 13 201413:48Alfredo Simon a late NL All-Star addition
Alfredo Simon has been added to the National League All-Star team.
It's not clear whose spot he's taking, but there are four NL starters Sunday that need to be replaced. We'd rather see someone like Stephen Strasburg make it, but Simon has had a great first half with a 2.70 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

Wed Jul 9 201422:19Simon picks up league-leading 12th win
Alfredo Simon picked up his league-leading 12th win, allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings as the Reds triumphed over the Cubs by a 4-1 margin on Wednesday.
Simon continues to pitch lights out baseball, as he hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start since May 27. The injured Masahiro Tanaka and Simon are the only pitchers in baseball with 12 wins presently. Against the Cubs, the right-hander allowed four hits -- including a solo home run to Anthony Rizzo -- while walking two and striking out eight. Simon will take a 2.70 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and a 75/28 K/BB ratio into a road start against the Yankees following the All-Star break.

He's now tied with Zack Greinke and Adam Wainwright for the NL lead with 11 wins. Simon held the Brewers scoreless until the seventh inning. He struck out three and walked two in the victory. One of the biggest surprises of the season, Simon has delivered seven straight quality starts and now owns a 2.78 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 17 starts this season. He'll try to keep it going next week against the Cubs in another home start.

He is the first in the National League to double-digit wins and is carrying a 3.05 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and a 55/22 K/BB ratio. Simon will face the Cubs on the road in his next start.

Thu Jun 12 201416:13Alfredo Simon goes eight strong in win
Alfredo Simon limited the Dodgers to one run in eight innings and struck out five to win for the ninth time on Thursday.
Simon avenged one of his worst starts of the season, when he gave up five runs over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Dodgers on May 27. This makes six times this year that he's pitched at least six innings and allowed one or no runs. His peripherals still say a reckoning is coming, but he's been huge for the Reds thus far.

Sat Jun 7 201420:58Alfredo Simon earns eighth win over Phils
Alfredo Simon improved to 8-3 after allowing three runs in six innings Saturday against the Phillies.
The runs scored on homers from Marlon Byrd and Carlos Ruiz. Simon is losing some steal of late, allowing 11 runs over 16 innings in his last three starts. Still, he's hardly falling apart. This makes 10 quality starts from him in 12 tries.

Sun Jun 1 201419:17Alfredo Simon defeats Snakes to earn 7th win
Alfredo Simon picked up his seventh victory of the season on Sunday, limiting the Diamondbacks to three runs on seven hits over his 6 1/3 innings.
Simon walked one and struck out four on the afternoon. While it hasn't officially been decided what the Reds will do with their rotation once Mat Latos returns, Simon has certainly done more than enough to keep his spot. He owns a 3.03 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 42/19 K/BB through 68 1/3 innings on the year. He'll look to keep things rolling when he does battle against the Phillies on Saturday.

Wed May 28 201401:17Alfredo Simon gives up five runs in loss
Alfredo Simon was tagged for five runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Dodgers in Tuesday's loss.
Simon opened the door for a demotion to the bullpen with an off night tonight. Either he or Tony Cingrani will need to go to make room for Mat Latos next week, and while Cingrani seemed to be the more likely choice, Simon hurt his cause by walking four and striking out just two tonight. He had been 6-2 with a 2.31 ERA this season.

Wed May 21 201420:18Alfredo Simon picks up sixth victory
Alfredo Simon pitched seven innings of one-run ball to defeat the Nationals and improve to 6-2 on Wednesday.
Simon came back out after a one-hour rain delay in the fifth. It's the fifth time in nine starts that he's allowed one or no runs. He's even upped his pedestrian strikeout rate of late, with 14 K's over 14 2/3 innings in his last two starts. Still, he should begin to fade sometime soon.

Fri May 16 201422:11Simon earns 5th win with 7 2/3 shutout frames
Alfredo Simon picked up his fifth win of the season, shutting the Phillies out over 7 2/3 innings as the Reds won 3-0 on Friday.
The Phillies' offense could not figure out Simon, who lowered his ERA to 2.45 with the strong effort. The right-hander allowed only five hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight. Quite a nice rebound after posting his worst start of the season last Saturday against the Rockies. Simon will go for win number six next week on the road against the Nationals.

Sat May 10 201422:24Alfredo Simon hammered in loss to Rockies
Alfredo Simon was hammered for five earned runs in three innings Saturday in a loss to the Rockies.
Colorado's red-hot offense jumped all over Reds pitching in this one, collecting a total of 11 runs on 16 hits -- five of which were homers. Simons still has an excellent 2.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP on the year, but regression is setting in. He's allowed eight earned runs over his last 10 frames.

Alfredo Simon allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings of a no-decision against the Brewers on Sunday.
Simon served up solo home runs to Scooter Gennett and Khris Davis among his five hits, and he also walked a batter in the game. He continues to find success as a starter, as Simon owns a 4-1 record, 1.99 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in his six starts this year. Simon will square off against the hot-hitting Rockies on Sunday.

Wed Apr 30 201400:52Simon limits Cubs to two runs for fourth win
Alfredo Simon allowed two runs on five hits over six innings to earn the win against the Cubs on Tuesday.
Outside of a two-run single by Starlin Castro, Simon was his usual -- usual this season, at least -- stingy self. The right-hander walked two while striking out five in his six innings of work. He's now turned in quality starts in each of his five outings to start the year, and he'll take a 4-1 record, 1.60 ERA and 0.98 WHIP into Sunday's divisional matchup with the Brewers.

Thu Apr 24 201418:34Woman files civil suit against Alfredo Simon
Rachel Axon of USAToday.com reports that a woman contending she was sexually assaulted by Alfredo Simon in April 2013 filed a civil lawsuit in Washington D.C. on Thursday.
The woman, who filed under a pseudonym, Jane Doe, is seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages. She says that she met Simon at a nightclub on April 27 last year and the pitcher eventually took her back to his hotel room even though she was "visibly intoxicated" and unable to consent. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia decided last year not to pursue charges in the case. Simon, of course, faced manslaughter charges after a shooting in his native Dominican Republic in 2011 before eventually being acquitted.

Wed Apr 23 201423:15Simon improves to 3-1 after limiting Pirates
Alfredo Simon improved to 3-1 in Wednesday's start as the Reds defeated the Reds 5-2.
Simon allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four. In three starts entering Wednesday, Simon had walked four total, so it was odd to see him so spotty with his command. His ERA also rose to 1.30. Simon has been a welcome addition to the Reds' rotation and will look to continue his success against the Cubs at home in his next start.

Fri Apr 18 201418:56Simon outstanding again in defeat of Cubs
Alfredo Simon delivered another outstanding performance in Friday's victory over the Cubs, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in his six innings of work.
Simon struck out three while walking a pair on the afternoon. He now sports an impressive 0.86 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 13/4 K/BB ratio over 21 innings in his first three starts. With Mat Latos still sidelined, he'll continue to have mixed league value in the near-term, and makes for a solid play against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Sat Apr 12 201415:55Simon goes eight innings in loss to Rays
Alfredo Simon tossed eight innings of one-run ball in a tough-luck loss to the Rays on Saturday.
The eight-inning outing tied a career-high. He had done it twice before in 2011 with the Orioles. His only mistake Saturday was a solo homer by James Loney in the top of the second inning, but without any help from his offense, it resulted in a loss. He fanned four and walked on batter in the loss and now owns a 1.20 ERA and 10/2 K/BB ratio in 15 innings across two starts. Given Mat Latos' issues, the Reds have to feel pretty good about him right now.

Sun Apr 6 201416:00Simon cruises past Mets in first 2014 start
Alfredo Simon rolled over the Mets in his first start of the season, allowing just one run on four hits in the Reds' 2-1 win Sunday.
After not starting a game since the 2011 season, the Reds decided to prepare Simon as a starter this spring given the injury to Mat Latos. The team may rethink returning Simon to the bullpen after he limited the Mets to four hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings. Even with Latos' return on the horizon, Simon should get at least one more start to convince management he should stick in the rotation, most likely next week against the Rays.
