Simon won his fourth game in four starts Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings, striking out three.
He likely won't be able to sustain anything close to his current his 1.65 ERA, given his low K/9 rate, but Simon has proven to be a steal so far for the Tigers and for any fantasy owners who took a chance on him.

Simon was masterful in his win Monday, allowing just one run in 7.1 innings of work while striking out seven.
The only damage done to Simon Monday night was a solo home run off the bat of Mark Teixeira. That blast was the only run Simon has allowed in his last two starts. The owner of a pristine 1.74 ERA, Simon will make his next start this weekend agains the Indians.

Simon threw eight shutout innings against the Pirates on Wednesday. He allowed just two hits -- both singles -- with no walks and two strikeouts.
He didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning when Andrew McCutcheon punched a single past Nick Castellanos at third. He allowed another single that inning and then settled right back down again, punching 67 of his 108 pitches for strikes. It's his second win of the season.

Simon took a shutout into the sixth inning Thursday; it was his debut as a member of the Tigers. He gave up three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, and ended up with the win in an 8-4 victory over the Indians.
He spent the last three seasons in the NL and only one of those (2014) was as a starter. He'll get a lot of offensive support from a potent Detroit lineup, but that doesn't mean he'll deliver stats like he did last year. And that means he's a risk unless you focus on him as streaming option in the perfect matchup.

Simon has been roughed up in each of his last three spring starts, lifting his ERA to 7.02 through appearances in Grapefruit League play.
While Simon is still penciled in for a rotation spot to begin the season, his struggles in the second half last season were already cause for concern about his ability to stick as a starter on a team with playoff aspirations. Simon has allowed 13 runs on 19 hits over 16.2 innings, while carrying a 10:5 K:BB. If Simon were to struggle and fall out of the rotation, the Tigers may turn to Kyle Lobstein as his replacement.
Fri Jan 16 201515:21Simon agreed to one-year
Simon agreed to a one-year, $5.55 million contract with the Tigers on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Simon had another good season in 2014, posting his third straight sub-3.50 ERA campaign, which all came after the age of 30. He was traded to the Tigers in the offseason, and figures to enter the 2015 season as part of the Tigers' starting rotation.

Simon was traded to the Tigers on Thursday in exchange for Jonathon Crawford and Eugenio Suarez.
The right-hander won 15 games last season, posting a 3.44 ERA and 1.207 WHIP across a career-high 196.1 innings. He figures to slot in as a back-end starter for Detroit, sitting solidly behind Justin Verlander, David Price and Anibal Sanchez.

Simon tossed six solid innings in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while picking up three strikeouts.
With now 15 wins to his credit, Simon has certainly put up one of 2014's most surprising efforts. The 33-year-old hurler earned earned his first All-Star selection this season and currently sports an impressive 3.34 ERA over 191.1 innings. Simon will wrap up his breakout campaign Saturday afternoon versus the Pirates.

Simon pitched well in a no-decision Monday, going seven shutout innings against the Cubs.
Simon allowed just five hits in the outing, but the offense was nowhere to be found for the Reds. The veteran righty has allowed just two runs in his last 14 innings after allowing six runs in four innings in his first start of the month. Simon next takes the mound this weekend against the Cardinals.

Simon struck out five and walked three while giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings to earn his 14th win of the season against the Cards on Wednesday.
While Simon has struggled in recent weeks, the Reds are still believed to be considering him for a rotation spot again in 2015. The start against the Cards -- a club pursuing another NL Central crown -- was impressive Wednesday, and he'll take his next two turns on the road against the Cubs on Monday before another matchup with St. Louis on September 21.

Reds manager Bryan Price envisions Simon starting again in 2015 despite the right-hander's second-half struggles. "I don't think there's any reason not to see [Simon] as a starter," Price said. "I know the second half hasn't been nearly as good. We really went into this as a guy that he was going to be a stop-gap this year until [Mat] Latos got back. ... Now [Simon] has 13 wins, he's an All-Star, he's shown some durability. ... So I would think that going into '15, you'll be seeing him as a starter."
The Reds are going to have to make some hard decisions following the 2015 season about their rotation, with Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos and Mike Leake all able to walk after the season. It's possible that one of those three could get traded this offseason, which would ensure a spot for Simon.

Simon labored through four innings in Friday's loss to the Mets, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks while picking up five strikeouts.
After performing at an All-Star level during the season's first four months, Simon has taken a step back since the beginning of August. Over his last seven outings, the 33-year-old hurler has posted an unsightly 5.87 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 38.1 innings. Simon will be back at it Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Simon gave up three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out seven over seven innings, in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Simon is starting to right the ship a bit, with back-to-back quality starts, but he's still just 1-6 since the All-Star break. The 33-year-old's decline has come as little surprise, as his .232 BABIP and 4.33 FIP in the first half were obvious indicator that his 2.70 ERA and .217 BAA were unsustainable.

Simon finally turned in a good post-All-Star break start Sunday, holding the Braves to one run on five hits and a walk, striking out six to get the win.
Everything finally came together for Simon on Sunday after a miserable stretch following the break. He was far more pitch-efficient as well, needing 99 pitches to get through his seven innings. He's now thrown 160.1 innings this season, by far more than he's ever thrown in a major league season, and just six innings short of his professional high (in 2004 no less). It'll be interesting to see how the Reds address his workload in September.

Simon pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters before picking up a no-decision in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.
While he wasn't spectacular Tuesday, Simon's outing was nonetheless solid considering the second half he has endured. Simon has only one quality start since the All-Star Break. His ERA now sits at 3.35 on the year with his WHIP at 1.20, while posting a 94:42 K:BB ratio in 153.1 innings pitched. Simon's next start is set for Sunday at home against the Braves.

Simon gave up seven runs (five earned) over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Rockies, giving up 10 hits and a walk while striking out two.
It's not at all shocking that Simon, who has struggled since the break (0-5 record), would struggle in Coors Field. He has a 5.46 ERA since the All-Star break.

Simon once again was limited to just five innings Saturday against the Marlins, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks, striking out five.
Simon needed 91 pitches just to get through five innings, continuing his post-All-Star break trend.

Simon was roughed up Monday, taking the loss after allowing five runs in five innings of work.
Simon has hit a couple bumps in the road since making the All-Star game last month, failing to throw more than five innings in three of his last four starts. The veteran will try to break a four-game losing streak this weekend against the Marlins.

Simon (12-6) took a tough-luck loss Wednesday afternoon, allowing six hits, two earned runs and a walk with two strikeouts over seven innings.
Simon has run into a bit of a rough patch of late, losing three straight starts despite not allowing more than three earned runs in any of those outings. He's only allowed more than three earned runs twice this season back in May, although his 4.36 FIP suggests that his 2.84 ERA may not necessarily be sustainable for much longer. Wednesday's start also brought Big Pasta's innings total up to 133 on the season, which is just two outs short of his career-high set back in 2011 with the Orioles. Fatigue may not yet be a concern for Simon and his 6-foot-6, 265 pound frame, but it's definitely a factor to monitor down the stretch, especially if the Reds find themselves in the playoff hunt. Simon will take the hill in search of his first win since July 9 next Monday against the Indians.
Fri Jul 25 201422:34Simon gives up three runs in loss to Nats
Alfredo Simon yielded three runs over 4 1/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Nationals.
It was his shortest outing since May 27. Simon allowed nine hits and two walks, so he was at 89 pitches before being pulled with one out in the fifth. Things could have been worse, but J.J. Hoover bailed him out of a jam. Simon has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season. He'll attempt to get back on the winning side next week against the Diamondbacks.
