J.J. Putz was unavailable on Wednesday night against the Giants due to soreness in his neck.

Wed May 23 201201:26J.J. Putz blows third save
J.J. Putz took his third blown save and loss after giving up two runs in the ninth against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Putz's velocity has been better of late, so he'll probably survive this one. It's been an ugly year for him so far, but he did enter the night with a 16/1 K/BB ratio in 14 innings. If the Diamondbacks do decide to make a switch, it'd be to David Hernandez.

Fri May 18 201206:53Putz avoids disaster to lock up seventh save
J.J. Putz survived a rocky ninth inning on Thursday, giving up three singles to the first three hitters faced before closing out the game on a strikeout and a double play.

Thu May 10 201201:07Putz has rocky night
Called on in a non-save situation in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals, J.J. Putz allowed four runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Not what Putz needed in his first appearance in five days. Putz is an acceptable 6-for-8 in save opportunities, and has yet to issue a walk in 10 innings, but is now the owner of a 9.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Putz is not yet on the verge of losing his job, but owners would be wise to at least monitor setup man David Hernandez.

J.J. Putz recorded his fifth save of the season in Sunday's win over the Braves.
Putz gave up a solo homer with one out to Juan Francisco, but quickly shut the door on Jack Wilson and Jason Heyward. Putz is now 5-for-6 on save chances this season and his 5.40 ERA is really just a product of one bad outing in Colorado.

Sat Apr 7 201218:44Putz records second straight save
J.J. Putz shut down the Giants in order on Saturday picking up his second save of the young season.
Putz has always been one of the most dominating closers in the league and as long as he's healthy he should be exactly the same in 2012.

Fri Apr 6 201222:18Putz records first save
J.J. Putz recorded his first save of the season Friday night against the Giants.
It wasn't necessarily his finest work as he allowed a Pablo Sandoval RBI double cutting the lead to one before he escaped danger. Putz has always been a top tier closer when he's healthy, and 2012 should be no different.

Putz probably thought he would get the night off with Arizona trailing 2-1 in the ninth inning against Roy Halladay. Alas, a two-run rally put the veteran closer in a position to notch his 30th save. Putz struck out two batters and walked another. He has allowed only one run since returning from the disabled list in late July.

Sun Jul 31 201120:38Putz gets another save
J.J. Putz picked up his third save since coming off the disabled list in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.
There's no question that Putz has this job back from David Hernandez. With a 2.89 ERA and and 24 saves in 28 chances, he has plenty of leash.

Tue Jul 26 201121:08J.J. Putz to close for D'Backs right away
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said he would use J.J. Putz if a save situation presents itself Tuesday.
David Hernandez was fantastic in the ninth inning while Putz was on the DL, but Gibson will waste no time in re-inserting the veteran Putz into the ninth inning. Putz posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 34 appearances this season before his elbow injury and looked good during a rehab assignment.

Putz will return to the back end of the Arizona bullpen on Tuesday after missing the past month with an elbow injury. He has a 3.12 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 34 relief appearances this season and should reclaim the ninth inning role from David Hernandez within the next couple of days.

Sun Jul 24 201114:25J.J. Putz (elbow) will be activated Tuesday
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said J.J. Putz (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.
Putz has been sidelined since late June with an elbow injury, but he's been throwing pain-free for a while now and is ready to rejoin the D'Backs bullpen. With Putz back in the ninth inning, assuming he returns there right away and isn't eased back in to the role, David Hernandez will return to setup duty.

Thu Jul 21 201113:46Putz (elbow) on track to return next week
J.J. Putz (elbow) is expected to pitch Friday and Saturday with Triple-A Reno before the Diamondbacks make a decision about activating him from the disabled list.
"Personally, I'd like to see him pitch back-to-back [days]," said Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson. "I want to make sure. I don't want him to be available one day in the closer's role and not the other." If Putz can pass the test, he'll likely return for the start of a crucial nine-game road trip next Tuesday in San Diego. David Hernandez, who is 7-for-7 in save chances during Putz's absence, will soon return to a set-up role.
