Franklin (oblique) could head out for some extended spring training games soon, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Although he didn't say so explicitly, manager Kevin Cash effectively ruled out a return for Franklin on Saturday when first eligible. Franklin took batting practice left-handed earlier in the week without any issues, and Cash reiterated that his recovery from a strained oblique is going well, but it sounds like the team wants to see him in a controlled environment first.

Franklin (oblique) took batting practice left-handed without any issues Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin will be eligible to return from the disabled list Saturday, and it seems he's on track to do just that. He's expected to get most of the playing time at second base, but Logan Forsythe figures to steal some at-bats.
Sun Apr 5 201516:02Franklin (oblique) placed on 15-day disabled list Sunday
Franklin (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin will be eligible to return within the first few days of the season, and while that may be pushing it just a bit, he could be ready within the first week or two. For now, Logan Forsythe figures to get most of the playing time at second base.
Tue Mar 31 201512:04Franklin (oblique) took some ground balls Tuesday
Franklin (oblique) took some ground balls Tuesday, but he is still expected to open his season on the disabled list, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Logan Forsythe is in line to get most of the playing time at second base at the beginning of the season, but Franklin could still be ready within a week or two of Opening Day. Franklin only took straight-on ground balls Tuesday morning, indicating that his mobility is still quite limited.
Wed Mar 25 201510:45Franklin (oblique) expected to miss start of regular season
Franklin (oblique) is expected to miss the start of the regular season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin originally strained his left oblique during batting practice this past Monday. Now, Manager Kevin Cash has said that the team's expected starter at second base will definitely not be ready to start the season. As a result of this development, Logan Forsythe should see plenty of at-bats in the early going of 2015.
Mon Mar 23 201515:21Franklin has strained left oblique
Franklin has a strained left oblique, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin was scratched from Monday's game after tweaking his left side, an issue that's now been determined to be a strained oblique. There's no exact timetable yet, but it seems possible that the setback could cost the 24-year-old's availability for Opening Day. Franklin was set to start the year in a platoon at second base, so Logan Forsythe could take over the full time starting duties if he's forced to miss regular season action.
Mon Mar 23 201513:15Nick Franklin: Tweaks Side, Scratched Monday
Franklin was scratched from Monday's game after tweaking his left side, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
More information about Franklin's injury may be available after Monday's exhibition, but he should be considered day-to-day for now. James Loney replaced him in the lineup at DH. This news comes hours after the Rays announced that Franklin will start the year in a platoon with Logan Forsythe at second base. Franklin will presumably occupy the strong side of the platoon if he's healthy, and is worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Franklin and Logan Forsythe will be in tandem at second base to begin the year, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Presumably, Franklin will get the starts against right-handed pitching, while Forsythe will be used against lefties. The Rays are expected to choose one of Tim Beckham, Jake Elmore and Alexei Casilla to serve as the team's sixth infielder.
Sun Mar 8 201511:36Franklin (hip) through full workout on Sunday morning
Franklin (hip) went through a full workout on Sunday morning, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin left Saturday's spring training game with a left hip strain, so this is definitely an encouraging sign. The young middle infielder will likely be back in the Rays' lineup at some point over the next few days.
Sat Mar 7 201514:32Franklin left Saturday's game with left hip strain
Franklin left Saturday's game with a left hip strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin's injury isn't considered to be serious, but it's unclear whether he'll be able to play Sunday against Philadelphia. Consider him day-to-day at this point.

Franklin is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Franklin hit his first home run as a Ray on Saturday, but he will not start Sunday as the Rays employ a lineup heavy on right-handed hitters against White Sox starter John Danks. Logan Forsythe will man second base for the Rays on Sunday.

Franklin finished 2-for-3, including a two-run home run to lead the Rays to a victory over the White Sox on Saturday.
Not only was it Franklin's first home run with Tampa Bay since being traded from Seattle in the David Price trade, but it was also his first homer of the season. The 23-year-old is batting .455 in 11 at-bats over four games with the Rays.
Sun Sep 14 201409:37Franklin called up from Triple-A Durham
Franklin has been called up from Triple-A Durham, Bob Sutton of the Burlington Times-News reports.
Acquired from the Mariners as part of the David Price deal back on July 31, Franklin will make his way up to the big league roster now that Triple-A Druham's season has come to an end. The versatile 23 year old has 119 games of experience in the majors over the last two years, posting a .214/.291/.358 slash line with a dozen homers.
Thu Jul 31 201418:18Franklin
Franklin, whom the Mariners dealt to the Rays on Thursday, will be sent to Triple-A Durham, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Franklin appeared in only 17 games for the Mariners this season, spending most of the year at Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .294 with 47 RBI and nine home runs in 279 at-bats. He'll begin his Rays career in the minors but is one of the top candidates to be called up.
Thu Jul 31 201416:05Nick Franklin: Traded To Tampa Bay
The Mariners traded Franklin to the Rays on Thursday as part of a three-team trade with the Tigers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
The blockbuster sees David Price head to the Tigers and Austin Jackson go to Seattle just minutes prior to Thursday's trade deadline. Franklin will be afforded a much-overdue change of scenery with the move to Tampa after batting .294/.392/.455 in 75 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. With Ben Zobrist locked in at second base for the Rays, Franklin will likely play primarily at short.
Mon Jul 21 201412:42Report: A's have Nick Franklin as top target
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the A's have made Nick Franklin a "top target."
Franklin has spent a large majority of the 2014 season at Triple-A Tacoma with Robinson Cano manning second base and Brad Miller at shortstop for Seattle. The talented 23-year-old could step in as the starting second baseman in Oakland, but Slusser notes that the in-contention M's might not want to strengthen a division rival.

Tue Jun 3 201413:54Franklin optioned to Triple-A
Mariners optioned INF Nick Franklin to Triple-A Tacoma.
Franklin had been called up in the wake of Corey Hart's hamstring injury, but the hot bat he'd swung in the minors froze against major league pitching. The 23-year-old was hitting .128/.192/.170 as of Tuesday. Erasmo Ramirez will take his place on the roster.

Sun Jun 1 201401:36Nick Franklin strikes out three times
Making his fifth start of the year at shortstop, Nick Franklin struck out all three times he was up Saturday against the Tigers.
Franklin is 0-for-14 with nine strikeouts in his last four games and 2-for-28 in his last eight games. For the season, he's 6-for-47 with one extra-base hit and a 21/3 K/BB ratio. The shortstop job is there for the taking with Brad Miller still struggling, but Franklin has done absolutely nothing to capitalize.

Wed May 21 201400:18Franklin has two hits, stolen base in return
Nick Franklin had two hits, a run scored and a stolen base in his return to the Mariners' lineup on Tuesday.
Franklin also drove in a run in the game, a game he started at DH just hours after being recalled from Triple-A. Franklin should get a fair amount of at-bats in place of Corey Hart, and he's certainly got the stick to be a worthwhile addition to the Mariners' lineup. If he can continue to hit this go-round, he may not be the one going back to the minors upon Hart's return.

Tue May 20 201414:13Mariners call up Nick Franklin from Triple-A
Mariners recalled INF/OF Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma.
As expected, he'll take Corey Hart's spot on the active roster. Given Brad Miller's struggles, Franklin could have a chance to take away at-bats at shortstop. It's also worth noting that he has been playing the outfield in Triple-A. Either way, he makes for a worthwhile addition in deeper mixed leagues.
