Perez didn't get the win, but he pitched a terrific game. To start the season, Perez was a starter for Triple-A Gwinnett before joining the Braves bullpen on May 8. He made two appearances, but with Eric Stults struggling, Perez was given the start against the Rays, and the right-hander responded. Despite giving up singles to the second and third batters he faced, he settled down and retired nine in a row. In the fourth and fifth innings, he encountered trouble, but managed to escape without giving up a run. Perez will give it another go Monday against the Dodgers. |
Perez will take the rotation spot of Eric Stults, who has struggled mightily in three May starts. Perez hasn't fared much better in two relief appearances with the Braves so far, allowing four earned runs over 2.1 innings. He was solid for Triple-A Gwinnett, however, posting a 1.33 ERA over his first five starts. The right-hander should have an opportunity to pitch his way into a more secure rotation spot. |
