Sun Jun 21 201512:52Tomas (elbow) will return to lineup Sunday against Padres
Tomas (elbow) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Padres.
Tomas was removed from Friday's game due to a left elbow contusion, and was out of the lineup Saturday as a result. He did pinch hit Saturday, however, and he should be fine moving forward.
Sat Jun 20 201519:15Tomas (elbow) will be available to pinch-hit Saturday
Tomas (elbow) will be available to pinch-hit Saturday.
After being hit on the left elbow by a pitch and leaving Friday's game, Tomas will take a seat Saturday as Danny Dorn takes over in right. The diagnosis was just a contusion, however, and Tomas' availability off the bench suggests he has a real chance to return for the finale against San Diego.
Sat Jun 20 201517:27Yasmany Tomas: (Elbow) Out Saturday
Tomas (elbow) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Padres.
Although Tomas was able to stay in Friday's game initially after being hit by a James Shields pitch in the first inning, he was eventually lifted and it seems he may still be dealing with some swelling and/or discomfort. Danny Dorn will start in right field and bat fifth Saturday, while Tomas should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's tilt.
Sat Jun 20 201515:27Yasmany Tomas: (Elbow) Out Saturday
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas is out of the starting lineup Saturday against the San Diego Padres after being hit on the elbow by a pitch Friday, according to the team's official website.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas is out of the starting lineup Saturday against the San Diego Padres after being hit on the elbow by a pitch Friday, according to the team's official website. Tomas was initially able to stay in the game after the incident in the first inning, but was lifted after experiencing soreness. "He got pretty sore," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale told AZCentral.com. "There's a big, big ol' lump on there. Then when he swung with the strikeout he said that was enough. We'll check him tomorrow. We'll probably have to give him a day tomorrow to see if he can get some range of motion back." Danny Dorn will start in right field and bat fifth in place of Tomas on Saturday. The Diamondbacks will head into the game with a 33-34 record, good for third place in the National League West division.
Sat Jun 20 201500:22Yasmany Tomas: Left Elbow Contusion
Tomas was removed from Friday's game with a left elbow contusion, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Tomas remained in Friday's game for two innings and even saw another at-bat after taking a James Shields pitch off his elbow in the first inning, but he was ultimately taken out of the contest prior to the fourth inning. While there is reason for optimism, the bruised elbow leaves Tomas' status for Arizona's next game Saturday in doubt.
Fri Jun 19 201523:15Tomas exited Friday's game prior to fourth inning
Tomas exited Friday's game prior to the fourth inning, Zach Buchanan of The Arizona Republic reports.
The exact reason for Tomas' removal was not provided, but he was replaced in right field by Danny Dorn after being hit by a pitch on the elbow, fouling a ball off his ankle, and making a diving catch all over the first three innings of Friday's game. Expect the Diamondbacks to provide more details on Tomas' status in the near future.

Tomas went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a stolen base Wednesday in a win over Anaheim.
Tomas continues to hit (as evidenced by his .328/.361/.443 season line), but four steals in five attempts is surprising as he isn't known for his speed. The D-backs have attempted the second most stolen base attempts in baseball, however, and it is having positive affects up and down the lineup. It's worth noting that Tomas is sporting a .412 BABIP, and his walk rate has dropped to 4.9 percent, so some batting average regression is likely as the season goes on.
Tue Jun 16 201501:40Tomas hit third home run in Monday's win over Angels
Tomas hit his third home run in Monday's win over the Angels. He finished 1-for-5 with the solo blast.
It took Tomas 23 games to hit his first major league home run; now he has two in his past four games. So far his power has mostly manifested in doubles (nine in 161 at-bats). He hit 15 home runs in just 284 at-bats in the Cuban league in 2013, and it wouldn't be surprising to see some of those doubles turn into home runs in the future.

Tomas is out of the D-Backs' lineup Sunday after going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Saturday against the Giants. He was also caught stealing.
Tomas has continued to hit through his transition to the outfield as he has maintained a very solid .329/.365/.422 batting line. The day off is part of the regular rotation of corner infielders and outfielders manager Chip Hale has deployed all season.
Sun Jun 14 201513:11Tomas out of lineup Sunday against Giants
Tomas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.
Tomas has made five straight starts in right field, but will take a seat in favor of Ender Inciarte on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old Tomas is currently riding a four-game hit streak, and is 14-for-39 at the plate (.359) since the beginning of June.

Tomas went 2-for-5 with his second home run of the season and two RBI Wednesday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Tomas played right field for the third straight game and is likely to play there almost exclusively going forward. Nearly a month passed between his first and second home runs, so it's unlikely that he suddenly found his power stroke, which remains the missing piece of his game. Be aware of his .412 BABIP - his lofty .331 batting average will be coming down in the weeks ahead.
Sun Jun 7 201512:56Tomas not in Sunday's lineup for Diamondbacks
Tomas is not in Sunday's lineup for the Diamondbacks.
Jake Lamb gets his first start at third base for Arizona since returning from the DL. Tomas played right field Friday and with his .338/.373/.423 line the D-Backs will find ways to get him in the lineup, but he will receive more days off than he did while Lamb was injured. His owners need patience while Arizona sorts out its optimal lineup.
Sat Jun 6 201511:15Tomas 2-3 with double and RBI Friday against Mets
Tomas went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI Friday against the Mets. He started in right field in the contest.
Tomas made his second appearance in the outfield in this one, which is likely a sign that Jake Lamb's return from the DL is imminent. The young Cuban has certainly earned continued playing time with a .338/.374/.424 line in his rookie season. Adding outfield eligibility will increase his fantasy value a bit in deeper leagues.

Tomas went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs Wednesday in a win over Atlanta.
We're still waiting for Tomas' fabled power stroke to show up, as he's sitting on just one homer through 38 games now, but it's hard to complain when the Cuban import's put up a .331 average. The home runs will come eventually, but Jake Lamb is heading out on a rehab assignment and will probably steal significant at-bats from Tomas upon his return.
Mon Jun 1 201517:30Tomas out of lineup Monday against Braves
Tomas is out of the lineup Monday against the Braves.
After playing all 17 innings of Sunday's marathon loss against the Brewers, Tomas was due for a day off. He's also been cold at the plate recently, going just 2-for-16 in his last three starts, so a mental break probably can't hurt. Aaron Hill will man the hot corner in Tomas' place.
Sat May 30 201511:59Tomas out of lineup Saturday
Tomas is out of the lineup Saturday.
His 11-game hitting streak came to an end Friday and he is still hitting .330 on the season. Aaron Hill gets the start at third base and will hit fifth Saturday.

Tomas went 2-for-5 with two doubles and drove in three runs Tuesday against the Cardinals.
The D-Backs' offseason investment in Tomas is looking smart, as he has hits in 10 straight games, including eight multi-hit efforts, to raise his season line to .349/.384/.443. The young Cuban is showing impressive contact skills while striking out in just 17.9 percent of his plate appearances. His BABIP is a sky high .424, so expect some adjustment downward on his batting average, and he is still not showing the power that was supposed to be his calling card (isolated power of just .094). If the power comes, he will be a very solid fantasy performer.

Tomas supplied three singles in five at-bats in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.
Sitting out Sunday's series finale against the Cubs didn't disrupt Tomas' rhythm at the plate, as the Cuban import extended his hitting streak to nine games, during which he's recorded a total of 18 hits. All but six of Tomas' 35 hits on the season have gone for extra bases, but most prior scouting reports indicated that the 24-year-old possessed a good deal of raw power. Should he eventually begin to demonstrate that dimension of his game and pair it with the surprising contact skills he's shown thus far, Tomas could become one of the most feared hitters in the National League.
Sun May 24 201512:46Yasmany Tomas: Resting Sunday
Tomas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.
Tomas has made eight straight starts at third base, but will give way to Aaron Hill for the Sunday afternoon contest. The 24-year-old has six multi-hit games during his current eight-game hitting streak, and his slashing .333/.373/.417 on the season. Chalk this up as a regular day off.
Wed May 20 201509:01Tomas 2-3 with walk and run scored Tuesday against Marlins
Tomas went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored Tuesday against the Marlins.
Tomas now has four straight multi-hit games to raise his average to .342. He's only had 82 plate appearances, which is a very small sample, and his .403 BABIP is certain to come down, but he has reasonable walk and strikeout rates at 7.3 and 15.9 percent respectively suggesting he is holding his own. Based on the scouting reports before he signed, there should be more power to come from Arizona's big off-season free agent acquisition.
