LF Yasmany Tomas from the lineup against the Mariners due to a sore left knee. Manager Chip Hale also said Tomes would not play Tuesday, although the ailment is not believed to be serious.Tomas, a 25-year-old Cuban, hit .273 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs last season as a rookie. He is signed to a six-year, $68 million contract through 2020. Outfield coach Dave McKay continues to work with Tomas to improve his fielding, which ranked way below average in defensive metrics last year.

OF Yasmany Tomas spent most of his time in right field last season, but with the trade of RF Ender Inciarte, the D-backs decided to shift David Peralta from left to right and put Tomas in left. Tomas slashed .273/.305/.401 with 19 doubles, nine homers and 48 RBIs last season. During the middle of the year, he was hitting .300 and was not listed among the league leaders because he did not have enough at-bats to qualify. He was a bench player the final month, however, when Inciarte took over in right and Peralta became the regular in left field. A short spring training trial at third base did not take. Peralta played right field after he joined the team in 2014.

Tomas went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in a 12-4 blowout over the Dodgers on Friday.
Tomas has been in a slump since the middle of August as he has just eight hits in his last 18 games coming into Friday night. With that said, Tomas has put together a pretty solid season. The power hasn't been there for the Cuban import this season, but aside from that, a .283 average is not too shabby.

Tomas made his first start in four games and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday in a loss to San Francisco.
Tomas is having some trouble adjusting to his part-time role, going just 2 for his last 20 with 11 strikeouts. His status is not likely to change the rest of the way, however, and the D-backs will have to sort out their crowded outfield in the offseason.
Sun Sep 6 201509:35Manager Chip Hale confirmed what apparent for couple of weeks
Manager Chip Hale confirmed what has been apparent for a couple of weeks, that Tomas is a part-time player, reports Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Tomas is having some trouble staying in a rhythm at the plate with just a handful of at-bats in any given week, going just 12-for-58 (.207) in 20 games since August 8. While he holds a respectable .284/.318/.408 line on the season, it is tough to argue that the D-backs are better off with Tomas in the lineup ahead of their three regular outfielders. Still, considering their investment in the young Cuban, the team has plenty of incentive to figure out where he fits in the lineup for 2016.

Tomas returned to the lineup Sunday after four games on the bench and went 1-for-5 with a run and three strikeouts against Oakland.
Tomas is having a slow second half, hitting just .229/.243/.339 with a 1.8% walk rate and 36.9% strikeout rate since the midway point. With his fellow outfielders all hitting well, he may see fewer starts than he had been down the stretch. Tomas has shown more contact ability and less power this season than predicted, but he should be firmly in the D-back's plans for 2016.
Sat Aug 22 201514:39Tomas out of lineup Saturday
Tomas is out of the lineup Saturday.
The 24-year-old rookie has five hits in his last four games and he hit a solo shot Friday. However, with righty Anthony DeSclafani on the mound the Diamondbacks will choose to give David Peralta the start in right field Saturday.

Tomas hit a solo home run, his eighth of the season, Friday in a win over the Reds.
Tomas has started four games in a row and collected hits in all of them. After slumping earlier in August he seems to have righted the ship a bit, but it's worth noting that he has drawn just two walks against 11 strikeouts in August. The length of his first major league season may be grinding him down a bit.
Thu Aug 20 201513:10Tomas 1-3 in Wednesday's game against Pirates
Tomas was 1-for-3 in Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
After sitting for four of five games last week, Tomas started consecutive games and seems to be back in the outfield rotation for the Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, he is slumping a bit, picking just two hits in his last 14 at-bats, while his fellow outfielders are finding greater success.
Mon Aug 17 201515:28Tomas not in lineup for Monday's game against Pirates
Tomas is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
The 24-year-old made his return from a calf injury Sunday, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a 2-1 loss to the Braves. Tomas will head back to the bench Monday as Ender Inciarte returns to right field, and it appears as though Tomas' starting opportunities will remain sporadic with Inciarte seemingly the preferred option in the eyes of manager Chip Hale.
Sun Aug 16 201511:53Tomas (calf) back in lineup Sunday against Braves
Tomas (calf) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Braves.
Tomas missed the past three games with the calf concern, but was never viewed as a serious candidate to land on the DL. David Peralta's recent offensive surge has created some tough lineup decisions lately for manager Chip Hale, so even though Tomas will draw the start in right field Sunday, it wouldn't be surprise if the Cuban import finds himself on the bench quite often the games to follow.

Tomas' calf injury will keep him out of Arizona's lineup for a second straight game Friday, although he is listed as available off the bench on the lineup card. It's possible that Tomas will return to the lineup this weekend, but Ender Inciarte will take over in right field for Friday's tilt.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies after leaving Tuesday's game with tightness in his calf, according to the team's official website.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies after leaving Tuesday's game with tightness in his calf, according to the team's official website. Tomas was replaced in the second inning after tweaking his calf during an 11-run inning, but Diamondbacks manager David Hale said he did not anticipate an extended absence for Tomas as a result of the injury. "[He] should be fine," Hale told Fox Sports. "There was nothing pulled, nothing strained, it was just a little bit tight, so we wanted to get him out of there." Tomas, who is being replaced by Ender Inciarte on Wednesday, is hitting .303/.337/.438 with seven home runs, 41 RBI and five stolen bases after signing a a six-year, $68.5 million contract in November. Arizona will enter Wednesday's game in third place in the National League West with a 56-56 record.
Tue Aug 11 201523:17Yasmany Tomas: Leaves With Calf Tightness
Tomas was removed from Tuesday's game for precautionary reasons with tightness in his left calf, the Arizona Republic's Zach Buchanan reports.
The Diamondbacks were up by 10 runs when Tomas was pulled, so it could very well be a very minor injury. Ender Inciarte replaced Tomas, who was 2-for-2 with two runs, in right field Tuesday. Consider Tomas questionable for Wednesday's game.

Tomas homered, his seventh, as part of a 2-for-4 game with two RBI in Monday's win over Philadelphia.
Tomas needed a game like this, as he had started just three games in the past 10 days. Tomas last homered on July 5 and hit .244/.262/.341 in the 23 games (18 starts) between home runs. Tomas is locked in a timeshare with Ender Inciarte at the moment, and he'll probably need a few more games like this to authoritatively earn his way back into the lineup full time.
Sat Aug 8 201516:15Tomas out of Diamondbacks' lineup again Saturday
Tomas is out of the Diamondbacks' lineup again Saturday.
Tomas, who has hit just .233/.246/.317 since the All-Star break, has seemingly been supplanted as the top option in right field by Ender Inciarte. Saturday's absence marks Tomas' second straight and fourth in the team's last six games.
