Wed Dec 18 201312:29Phils add O'Sullivan on minor league contract
Padres signed RHP Sean O'Sullivan to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. The 26-year-old had a 3.83 ERA over 115 innings this past season at the Triple-A level. O'Sullivan's problems begin when he's asked to take to a major league hill, where he's been taxed with a 5.89 ERA over 50 career appearances (37 starts). He'll need a big spring to win a roster spot.

Sean O'Sullivan gave up two runs in five innings against the Giants in his Padres debut Friday.
O'Sullivan took the loss, but he gave the Padres a solid performance in a game they ended up losing 10-1. It's up in the air whether he'll make more starts after the All-Star break. NL-only leaguers should stay away regardless.

O'Sullivan will make his first start of the 2013 season against the Giants on Friday, replacing Robbie Erlin in the rotation. The 25-year-old righty hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he made 10 awful starts for the Royals in 2011. Despite pitching in a favorable environment, fantasy owners should probably look elsewhere.

This move is more about adding some pitching depth at the Triple-A level, as the injury-riddled Jays have recently been forced to move a number of pitchers up to the big league level.

Sean O'Sullivan (biceps) allowed four runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings Wednesday in his first minor league rehab start with Triple-A Omaha.

Fri Jun 17 201111:43Sean O'Sullivan changing mechanics
Sean O'Sullivan (biceps) is using his time on the disabled list to go back to his old delivery.
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star refers to it as a "power delivery" that O'Sullivan thinks he went away from due to an overemphasis on mechanics. "I'm so tired of mechanics," he said. "I'm so tired of trying to get in the perfect position. When I was in high school and college, I could stand at home plate and throw it over the left-field fence if I wanted to. So I started playing catch like that again. I decided I was just going to be athletic. Not try to get in the perfect position and be so robotic." O'Sullivan has liked the results in a pair of bullpen session. He'll throw a simulated game this weekend and could be ready for a rehab assignment the following weekend.

Thu Jun 2 201123:11Sean O'Sullivan gets pounded again
Sean O'Sullivan continued his downward spiral Thursday, allowing seven runs - three earned - on eight hits and two walks over just 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Twins.
O'Sullivan got off to a surprisingly nice start when thrust into the Royals rotation, but he's been downright dreadful lately, allowing a whopping 30 runs - 26 earned - over his previous four outings to bloat his ERA all the way up to 6.92. Nate Adcock followed O'Sullivan with some effective innings, and he might get a shot to replace him in the rotation the next time out. If O'Sullivan gets another shot, it will come against the Blue Jays.

Sat May 28 201121:52O'Sullivan rocked for 10 runs in loss
Sean O'Sullivan allowed 10 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday as the Royals lost to the Rangers.
Sullivan surrendered 15 hits and walked two while striking out just one. He's been shelled now in consecutive starts and can be completely avoided in fantasy leagues. Even next week against the light-hitting Twins.
