Tue Aug 3 201000:22Nats' Hernandez beats Diamondbacks
Livan Hernandez limited the Diamondbacks to one run in 7 1/3 innings to win Monday.
After a subpar June and first half of July, Hernandez has posted a 2.03 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break. Remarkably, he's now gone seven straight starts without allowing a homer, matching his career high.
Thu Jul 22 201015:58Livan goes nine in win over Reds
Livan Hernandez went the distance Thursday in the Nationals' 7-1 win over the Reds.
Hernandez had a rough June and he turned in a couple of mediocre efforts this month before the break, but he's bounced back with strong outings his last two times out. A Reds lineup minus Joey Votto and Scott Rolen provided little challenge today. All seven hits Hernandez allowed were singles, and he walked none while improving to 7-6 with a 3.12 ERA.
Sat Jul 17 201021:50Livan allows two runs in loss to Marlins
Livan Hernandez allowed two runs -- one earned -- over six innings Saturday as the Nationals were defeated by the Marlins.
Hernandez pitched well enough to keep the Nats alive all night, but the Washington offense failed to score a single run off the Marlins, and particularly ace Josh Johnson. Livan is 6-6 this season with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He's not a bad option next week against the Reds.
Tue Jul 6 201022:19Livo goes seven innings in no-decision
Livan Hernandez gave up four runs over seven-plus innings as part of a no-decision against the Padres on Tuesday.
Livo held the Padres to just two runs over the first seven innings, but was pulled from the game after giving up consecutive singles to lead off the eighth inning. Tyler Clippard would allow both inherited runners to score, closing the book on Hernandez's night. The veteran right-hander allowed nine hits while striking out four and walking two. He still has a very respectable 3.12 ERA through 17 starts, but regression is knocking on his door.
Thu Jul 1 201022:08Hernandez goes seven strong
Livan Hernandez twirled seven terrific innings Thursday against the Mets, allowing just one run on seven hits.
He walked no one and struck out a season-high seven. If you're the one guy that took the under on a 3.00 ERA for Livan on July 1, congrats. The big righty is just 6-4 on the year put has posted an unfathomable 2.98 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his 16 starts. If you can find someone silly enough to trade for him right now, please do so, as the Cuban defector is due for some tough times ahead. He has a matchup at home against the Padres next week.
Mon Jun 21 201021:59Livan earns sixth win vs. Royals
Livan Hernandez hurled seven innings of one-run ball in a win over the Royals on Monday night.
A nice rebound after his eight-run debacle against the Tigers last week. Hernandez scattered eight hits while tying a season-high with five strikeouts and walking just one. He owns a stingy 2.82 ERA through 14 starts this season, but realize that smoke and mirrors have been his best friend throughout. That being said, we wouldn't be shocked if his good fortunate continued against the Orioles this weekend.
Wed Jun 16 201022:11Hernandez ripped by Tigers
Livan Hernandez was ripped for eight earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers on Wednesday night.
There goes the other shoe on Livan. He struggled badly with command tonight as he walked six, which is a sure recipe for disaster when you can't strike anyone out. He came into tonight with strong numbers by pitching to contact, but that can't last. The good news is that Livan gets the Royals next time out.
Thu Jun 10 201022:08Livan solid again as Nats top Pirates
Livan Hernandez kept the Pirates to two earned runs in six innings Thursday as the Nationals grabbed a 4-2 victory.
Hernandez continues to make quality starts and now owns a 2.28 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the year. He held the Bucs to five hits over his six innings of work and racked up three strikeouts. The veteran is worth owning in almost every fantasy format until this string of luck runs out.
Fri Jun 4 201023:15Another quality start for Livan
Livan Hernandez yielded two earned runs over six innings of work in a no-decision against the Reds on Friday.
Livan struck out three and walked four. He's been surprisingly excellent so far this season, sporting a 2.22 ERA and 1.18 ERA after tonight. But the other shoe is sure to drop at some point, and we suspect that point will be very soon. He hasn't had a sub-5.00 ERA since 2007.
Sat May 15 201016:51Hernandez takes loss vs. Rockies
Livan Hernandez allowed three runs over six innings in a loss to the Rockies on Saturday afternoon.
While it still qualifies as a "Quality Start," Saturday was the first time Hernandez has allowed more than two runs in a start this season. The seven hits allowed were also a season-high. Hernandez still has a very impressive 1.46 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over his first seven starts, but there's nothing here to suggest he'll be able to keep it up. It's unlikely you'll be able to dupe a fellow owner to buy-high, but by all means go ahead and try.
Sun May 9 201016:44Nationals' Hernandez adds quality start
Livan Hernandez recorded another quality start on Sunday, holding the Marlins to just one run in seven innings of a no-decision.
The Nationals would eventually win the game 3-2, and Hernandez once again had a big say in that win. The right-hander walked one and gave up five hits while striking out three. Hernandez has given up four homers in six starts, but since all four were solo shots the damage has been limited. Eventually Hernandez will start giving up more hits and thus more homers with men on base, but his 1.04 ERA and 0.99 WHIP make Hernandez the early leader for Comeback Player of the Year.
Tue May 4 201022:47Nats' Hernandez improves to 4-1
Livan Hernandez gave up two runs -- one earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a 6-3 win over the Braves on Tuesday night.
The Livan Express may finally be running out of fuel. Fantasy owners will gladly take the victory and the 0.99 ERA, but he walked five and was pulled in the sixth after throwing 123 pitches. With a 11/13 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 innings, it's high-time to let go.
Thu Apr 22 201019:15Livan takes tough loss to Rockies
Livan Hernandez turned in another gem on Thursday, limiting the Rockies to two runs and four hits in eight innings.
He was outpitched by Ubaldo Jimenez, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. The runs scored on solo homers off the bats from Miguel Olivo and Ian Stewart. Those were the first two runs that Hernandez has allowed in three starts this season.
Sat Apr 17 201015:43Nats over .500 mark for first time since 2007
Livan Hernandez tossed a complete-game shutout in an 8-0 win over the Brewers on Saturday afternoon.
Hernandez held the Brewers to just four hits and didn't allow a hit after the fifth inning. He has 16 scoreless innings under his belt to begin the season. It was his first complete game since last May 26 as a member of the Mets against the Nationals. With the win, the Nationals are over .500 for the first time since April of 2007.
Sun Apr 11 201010:03Nationals activate Hernandez for Sunday start
Nationals activated RHP Livan Hernandez from the 15-day disabled list.
Hernandez had been working in extended spring training to prepare for the season, but gets the start Sunday against the Mets. It's not the easiest first assignment, but perhaps he'll get some help from Willie Harris, who remains a constant thorn in the Mets' collective side.
