Thu Mar 10 201122:59Doumit day-to-day with sore right oblique
Ryan Doumit is day-to-day with a sore right oblique.
The Pirates called Doumit a "healthy" lineup scratch on Thursday afternoon, but he apparently has an ailment. The 29-year-old catcher might be on the move this spring if he gets healthy and if a team comes calling. The Astros, Royals and Padres all need catchers. A trade could happen at some point.

Sun Feb 27 201115:02Pirates GM says Doumit trade talks now quiet
Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Sunday that trade talks involving Ryan Doumit have "quieted."
The Bucs shopped Doumit around this winter, but teams didn't want to get involved because of the $5.1 million salary that he is owed this season. The Pirates have a $7.25 million option on him for 2012 that will probably be bought out. He'll serve as a part-time catcher and outfielder this year for the Pittsburgh.

Sun Feb 13 201112:22Pirates willing to eat some of Doumit salary
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel reports that the Pirates have been unable to trade Ryan Doumit despite their willingness to eat "a big chunk" of his $5.1 salary.
The Pirates have no spot for Doumit in the everyday lineup and don't want to keep him around as a bench player at his salary. Though he's been injury-prone in the past and has his defensive issues, Doumit certainly has the ability to be an above-average hitting catcher that can also fill in at first base and in the outfield. They might have to eat a little more money than they'd like, but the Pirates should eventually be able to find a trade partner if they're really committed to dealing him.

Tue Dec 14 201014:49Pirates looking hard to trade Ryan Doumit
Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Pirates are "stepping up their efforts" to trade Ryan Doumit.
The Pirates inked Lyle Overbay to a one-year contract Tuesday and intend to start him at first base. That pushes Garret Jones into a platoon with Matt Diaz in right field, and those two will hog any outfield at-bats that might have gone Doumit's way. He's a $5.1 million bench player at the moment.

Wed Dec 8 201014:03Report: Pirates trying to trade Ryan Doumit
A source tells Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com that the Pirates are trying to deal Ryan Doumit and are willing to pay some of his salary in a potential trade.
The pending addition of Matt Diaz makes Doumit expendable to a certain degree, but dealing him won't be easy. The 29-year-old is owed $5.1 million in 2011 and has club options for 2012 and 2013 that can be bought out for $500,000. If they Pirates can't find a deal, Doumit will likely split time between right field, first base and catcher.

Mon Dec 6 201016:27Doumit the Pirates' RF, for now
Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Ryan Doumit is the team's starting right fielder "as we sit right now."
Doumit would also get some starts behind the plate behind Chris Snyder. Right now they're looking at him in right and Garrett Jones at first base, but Jones could move to right if the team decides to upgrade at first. The Pirates could get involved on Matt Diaz and platoon him with Doumit. John Bowker looks ticketed for the bench.

Sat Nov 13 201014:13Could Pirates look to trade Doumit
MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch has indicated that the Pirates might look to trade Ryan Doumit this offseason.
The Pirates traded for Chris Snyder at the deadline this past season, so they have another starting-caliber option, and Jason Jaramillo is fine as a backup. Doumit has much more offensive upside than Snyder, though, and he is able to play other positions. If the Pirates do decide to shop him, they'll almost surely look for some young pitching in return.

Fri Sep 3 201022:48Doumit has three hits, homers vs. Nats
Ryan Doumit was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in an 8-5 win over the Nationals on Friday night.
Doumit homered in the fourth and capped off a four-run fifth with an RBI single. It's been a disappointing year for him, but he is batting .400 (10-for-25) with two home runs and four RBI over his last seven games. Doumit has split time between catcher and right field since the Pirates acquired Chris Snyder, but one of them is likely to be dealt during the offseason.
Sun Aug 8 201013:13Pirates GM: There's still room for Doumit
Pirates GM Neal Huntington said there's room to have both Chris Snyder and Ryan Doumit on the roster not now but beyond this season.
Doumit is due to make $5.1 million in 2011, with Chris Snyder scheduled to take home $5.75 million. Many teams, especially ones with a limited payroll like Pittsburgh, would balk at paying their catchers that much. Huntington notes that Arizona sent $3 million to the Pirates in the Snyder deal, as well as the fact that Doumit can also play first base and right field. He will play all three positions for the rest of this season, and it sounds like, in future seasons, as well.

Ryan Doumit (concussion) is likely to return from the disabled list Saturday

Sun Aug 1 201012:13Doumit "shocked" by demotion
Ryan Doumit says he was "shocked" when he heard he was going to be a backup after the acquisition of Chris Snyder.
"I was shocked, obviously," Doumit said. "I didn't know how to interpret it. He's a starting-catcher-type guy. I'm a starting-catcher-type guy. I didn't know what to think of it. You know, obviously, I want to play. I want to play every day. I think I'm an everyday major leaguer and ... I don't know. I'm still kind of taken aback by it." Doumit has more offensive upside than Snyder but he's also not a strong defensive catcher and is perpetually injured. When he returns from the DL, he'll back up Snyder and occasionally play right field and first base.

Sat Jul 31 201017:49Doumit expects to return from DL on Friday
Ryan Doumit (head) expects to be activated from the disabled list Friday.
Doumit has been on the disabled list since July 22 due to a concussion and will be used in the outfield and as a backup to Chris Snyder at catcher once he rejoins the Pirates. If he had fantasy value before, he no longer does now. Snyder, on the other hand, is worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Sat Jul 31 201013:51Report: Doumit headed for the outfield
The Pirates plan to play Ryan Doumit (concussion) mostly in the outfield upon his activation, with time also at first base and catcher, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
He makes way for new starter Chris Snyder. Doumit could take over right field, but Lastings Milledge has been there since the All-Star break. Perhaps another trade is coming to open up at-bats. The current plan is for Doumit to return to the lineup on August 6.

Thu Jul 22 201015:25Doumit placed on DL with concussion
Pirates placed C Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion.
It hasn't been a good few days for Doumit. After feeling woozy upon taking a foul tip to his mark on Monday, Doumit was plowed over in the first inning of Wednesday's game. Erik Kratz took over behind home plate to begin the fourth inning. The Pirates will naturally give Doumit all the time he needs to recuperate"
Wed Jul 21 201020:12Doumit removed from Wednesday's game
Ryan Doumit had to be removed Wednesday after a play at the plate.
Doumit already reported feeling "woozy" earlier this week, so this new development probably isn't good. Eric Kratz entered the game as his replacement and is likely to draw several consecutive starts.

Tue Jul 20 201016:47Doumit out of Tuesday's lineup
Ryan Doumit is out of Tuesday's starting lineup against the Brewers.
Doumit is feeling a little "woozy" after being hit by a foul tip on Monday night. Pirates manager John Russell intends to use him in a timeshare moving forward, so Bucs fans should probably get used to seeing 30-year-old rookie Erik Kratz behind the plate.

Tue Jun 29 201023:21Doumit picks up two hits, HR
Ryan Doumit went 2-for-3 with a solo home run off Ted Lilly in Tuesday's loss off the Cubs.
It's been a pretty disappointing year for Doumit, who has seven home runs and 28 RBI despite finally being healthy. At age 29, we can say with confidence that the former top prospect is not going to break out.
Thu Jun 10 201016:15Doumit to play 1B in return to Pirates' order
Ryan Doumit, who had been battling concussion-like symptoms, returns to the Pirates' lineup and will play first base.
Doumit had missed Tuesday and Wednesday's games due to the injury, but returns on Thursday, though not behind the plate. His start at first base is his first since May 14 of 2007.
