Doumit delivered a sac fly in the first inning, a two-run homer in the third and a two-run ground rule double in the fourth. The Pirates got to Giants starter Todd Wellemeyer early and had little trouble posting six runs in the first four innings. Doumit's hitting .278 with 23 RBI. The Bucs are 23-32. | ||||||

Mike Napoli is already getting starts at first base, perhaps Doumit will follow that path. While the extra eligibility does give Doumit a bit of added value, chances are good that your current first baseman is more productive than Doumit will be. | ||||||

The Pirates staged a furious rally off legendary closer Trevor Hoffman to improve to 8-12. With a 3-2 deficit in the ninth, Ronny Cedeno tied the game with a leadoff home run. Hoffman recorded an out, but Pittsburgh collected two hits and an intentional walk to load the bases for Doumit. His grand slam gave Pittsburgh a cushion big enough that even their leaky bullpen couldn't blow it. | ||||||
