Tue Aug 23 201106:11Betancourt collects save in 2nd straight game
Rafael Betancourt retired both batters he faced to collect his third save of the season on Monday.
Few could have expected to see Betancourt in this one after the Rockies entered the ninth inning leading 9-1. But three hits, two walks, and an error later, Betancourt took the mound to convert the 10-pitch save. He now owns a 3.35 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.

Sun Aug 21 201121:23Betancourt earns second save
Rafael Betancourt earned his second save of the season Sunday as Huston Street (biceps) continues to rehab.
Street is tentatively expected back by the end of next week. In the meantime, Betancourt is going to keep getting all the save chances. He should be on a roster in all formats at this point.

Fri Aug 12 201118:37Rox to use Betancourt as closer in short-term
The Rockies will use Rafael Betancourt as closer while Huston Street (triceps) is on the disabled list.
Betancourt got the call in the ninth inning Tuesday when Street was unavailable, so this doesn't come as a big surprise. The veteran right-hander has a 3.61 ERA and 56/8 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings this season and is a must-own in most formats in the short-term.

Tue Aug 9 201122:53Rafael Betancourt records save
Rafael Betancourt recorded his first save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Reds.
With Huston Street unavailable due to a lat injury, Betancourt tossed a perfect ninth inning to record his first save since June 19 of last season. Street is listed as day-to-day and isn't expected to need a trip to the DL, but if you're looking for saves in a head-to-head league, Betancourt is worth a short-term pick-up.

Sun Jul 17 201122:49Spilborghs and Betancourt likely trade chips
Outfielder Ryan Spilborghs and reliever Rafael Betancourt are the more likely trade candidates for the Rockies, according to Tracy Ringolsby of FoxSports.com.
Colorado has also received inquiries about closer Huston Street and starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Betancourt and Spilborghs both come with smaller price tags, of course. Betancourt is guaranteed $4 million in 2012 with a $250,000 buyout for 2013 and Spilborghs has less than $1 million remaining on his 2011 deal. Among teams with scouts in attendance at the Rockies weekend series with Milwaukee were the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Texas, Detroit, Baltimore, and New York Yankees.

Sun Jan 30 201115:09Betancourt inks extension with Rockies
Rockies signed RHP Rafael Betancourt to a one-year, $4 million extension.
Betancourt was already set to make $3.775 million in 2011, but the Rockies have tacked on another year and also added a $4.25 million club option for 2013 that contains a $250,000 buyout. The right-hander somehow posted a modest 3.61 ERA in 2010 despite a brilliant 0.96 WHIP and ridiculous 89/8 K/BB ratio over 62 1/3 innings. It's not a cheap deal, but the 35-year-old is one of the better setup men in the league.
Thu Aug 26 201009:58Betancourt could land on DL
Rafael Betancourt (abdomen) could land on the disabled list if he's unable to throw Friday.
"I don't want to tear the tendon again like I did before," Betancourt said. "I want to be able to help the team." The reliever has been unavailable for the last couple games and the Rockies don't want to be short-handed if he can't pitch for a while. His loss would hit extra hard because the team recently just lost Manny Corpas.

Wed Aug 25 201012:20Betancourt hopes to be ready Friday
Rafael Betancourt (groin) will be unavailable to pitch Wedneaday for the second straight game.
The reliever will play catch before Wednesday's game and hopes to be available Friday after an off day Thursday. Betancourt has posted a 4.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and fabulous 67/7 K/BB ratio over 47 innings this season.

Tue Aug 24 201020:16Betancourt (groin) unavailable Tuesday
Rafael Betancourt is unavailable Tuesday due to a strain in his upper abdominal and groin area.
"We will have to see how i feel when I wake up," said Betancourt. The veteran right-hander served a stint on the disabled list with a groin injury when he was with the Indians last season, so there is some reason to be concerned here. Keep an eye on his status.

Rafael Betancourt was unavailable Monday due to cold symptoms.
Betancourt will attempt to throw a short bullpen session on Tuesday morning. If all goes well, he should be at the ready Tuesday night against the Phillies. The 35-year-old setup man has a 5.56 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and a 13/2 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings of relief this season for the Rockies.
