Thu Sep 23 2010 | 18:32 | Torres (appendectomy) takes live BP |
Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com writes that Andres Torres (appendectomy) seemed to be swinging "awfully gingerly" in his first live batting practice session Thursday. |
Torres reportedly took more swings from the left side than the right, but this was a huge first step for him. He hopes to return as soon as this weekend against the Rockies, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy is trying to prepare as if he won't be available. |

Wed Sep 22 2010 | 09:12 | Torres (appendectomy) wants to play this week |
Andres Torres (appendectomy) said he wants to return this for this weekend's crucial series against the Rockies. |
"It depends how I feel," said Torres, who underwent an appendectomy less than two weeks ago. "We're working hard, but we have to wait to let this heal. Hopefully by the end of the week, it will feel better." Torres did light baseball activities Tuesday, including taking some soft-toss in the cage. Overall, Torres said he feels good, however he still feels some soreness at the incision point when he swings a bat. He could be back this weekend, but fantasy owners shouldn't count on it. |

Tue Sep 21 2010 | 18:28 | Torres takes batting practice Tuesday |
Andres Torres (appendectomy) took some swings Tuesday and said " he can tell he had surgery." |
That's another way of saying he didn't feel all that comfortable. It's to be expected, considering that he underwent an emergency appendectomy a little over a week ago. Giants manager Bruce Bochy is working under the assumption that Torres won't be available for this week's series against the Rockies, but he wouldn't rule it out, either. |

Andres Torres (appendectomy) plans to take batting practice Tuesday. |
The outfielder underwent an emergency appendectomy a little over one week ago, yet he is already ramping up his rehab efforts and is optimistic for a quick return. Torres had an .822 OPS, 14 home runs and 23 stolen bases in 479 at-bats before going down and should be back in about five days. |

Sun Sep 19 2010 | 14:22 | Torres could return next weekend |
Andres Torres (appendectomy) could be back in the lineup for the September 24-26 series against the Rockies. |
Manager Bruce Bochy referred to the possibility as a "best-case scenario," so it's far from a sure thing. Torres appears to be making a quicker-than-expected recovery, as originally it looked like he might not make it back until the playoffs, assuming the Giants made it there. |

Fri Sep 17 2010 | 21:07 | Torres cleared to begin jogging |
Andres Torres (appendectomy) has been cleared to begin jogging Saturday. |
Torres just had his appendix out Sunday, so this is certainly a surprise. He is hoping to return before the end of the regular season, and it certainly seems possible now with this bit of good news. |

Wed Sep 15 2010 | 01:54 | Torres has surgery, likely out for year |
Andres Torres underwent his appendectomy surgery over the weekend and told John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle Tuesday that he doesn't know when he'll be back. |
In particular, he said that Torres said he wasn't sure he'd be back for the playoffs. This couples with some comments made by Hank Schulman at the same newspaper - that this is a tricky injury, that even the stated two-to-three weeks is a best-case scenario, and that Torres will have to wait for the sutures to heal - to make us think he'll be out for the year. It's safe to drop Torres in re-draft leagues if he's worried about making it back for the playoffs, in other words. |

Sun Sep 12 2010 | 14:34 | Torres to have appendectomy, miss 10-14 days |
Andres Torres will undergo an appendectomy Sunday and will miss 10-14 days. |
Torres has really been scuffling at the plate lately, so this isn't a huge blow to fantasy owners, but it's certainly notable nonetheless. Aaron Rowand is starting in center field Sunday and figures to be the primary beneficiary of more playing time, though Cody Ross should see an uptick in at-bats, as well. |

Wed Aug 25 2010 | 01:25 | Giants' Torres knocks in four runs |
Andres Torres had three hits, including his 40th double, and four RBI against the Reds on Tuesday. |

Tue Aug 24 2010 | 01:21 | Giants' Torres hits 13th homer |
Andres Torres hit his 13th homer and walked twice Monday versus the Reds. |
Incredibly, Torres is up to 57 extra-base hits, which is tied for 11th in the majors. Unfortunately, since he's been batting leadoff for the most part, he has just 51 RBI. Since 2000, the smallest total of RBI for anyone with at least 60 extra-base hits was Jimmy Rollins in 2005. He had 61 extra-base hits and 54 RBI. |

Thu Aug 12 2010 | 14:19 | Torres out of Thursday's lineup |
Andres Torres is out of Thursday's lineup against the Cubs because of "tight legs." |
Whatever they want to it, there is legitimate reason to be concerned. Torres has a significant injury history, including two stints on the disabled list last season due to hamstring pulls. Aubrey Huff will start in right field Thursday, while Aaron Rowand plays center and Pat Burrell starts in left. |

Sun Jul 11 2010 | 09:11 | Torres was available to pinch hit Saturday |
Andres Torres (groin) was available to pinch-hit Saturday. |
He didn't, but just the fact he was available should give you an indication that his groin injury isn't too serious. We would expect him to sit again Sunday, but he should be cleared to start after the break. |

Sat Jul 10 2010 | 00:44 | Torres (groin) could miss rest of weekend |
Andres Torres could miss the rest of this weekend's series against the Nationals due to a left groin strain. |
"It might be a couple days," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "We'll hope for better news once we check on him tomorrow. It's going to be questionable." Torres is the hottest hitter in the lineup right now, but the Giants might as well shut him down right now in hopes that he'll be fully healed after the All-Star break. |

Fri Jul 9 2010 | 22:21 | SF OF Torres takes Strasburg deep |
San Francisco Giants OF Andres Torres hit a home run off of Stephen Strasburg on Friday. |
Torres joins a small group of three batters that have gotten lucky off of the young ace, and it was his third in as many days. Power really isn't his game, though. On the other hand, his ability to get on base and play good defense have cemented him into the Giants' lineup. Fantasy owners needing some speed with a little bit of pop could do worse. |
Fri Jul 9 2010 | 20:28 | Torres leaves Friday's game |
Andres Torres left Friday's game against the Nationals in the fifth inning for an undisclosed reason. |
Torres homered off Stephen Strasburg to lead off the game, so Giants manager Bruce Bochy wasn't pinch-hitting with Aaron Rowand for the matchup. Something obviously happened here. We'll pass along an update when we get it. |
