Tue Mar 13 201215:51Frank Francisco gives up another run
Frank Francisco continued his streak of allowing one run an appearance Tuesday in his inning against the Cardinals.
Francisco has pitched three innings and allowed a run in each of them. It's not something to be too concerned about yet, but he doesn't deserve a long leash as the Mets' new closer.

Mon Dec 19 201110:57Mets, Francisco finalize two-year, $12M deal
Mets signed RHP Frank Francisco to a two-year, $12 million contract.
Francisco has already been anointed the Mets' closer for 2012 and should make a fine fantasy option even with the team looking like a non-contender. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 3.55 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio over 50 2/3 innings this past season for the Blue Jays. He tallied 17 saves in 21 chances.

Tue Dec 6 201122:08Mets give Francisco 2-year deal to be closer
Ken Davidoff of Newsday reports that the Mets have signed free agent reliever Frank Francisco to a two-year contract.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Francisco will get $12 million over the two years. Davidoff also adds that Francisco will be used as the team's closer, while Jon Rauch will pitch in a setup role. The Mets have stockpiled some much-needed relief help by acquiring Francisco, Rauch and Ramon Ramirez in one night.

Tue Dec 6 201117:02Mets likely to sign reliever soon
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets are "getting more serious about relievers" and have Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Brad Lidge on their radar.
Other Mets beat reporters suggest that they could sign a reliever sometime Tuesday. General manager Sandy Alderson wouldn't rule out bringing Francisco Rodriguez back but indicated it was unlikely. Any of the aforementioned trio of relievers would probably have a leg up to close over Bobby Parnell.

Tue Dec 6 201114:56GM: Francisco likely to depart Toronto
Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos said Frank Francisco is likely to depart after the club traded for Sergio Santos Tuesday.
Francisco was offered arbitration by Toronto last month and would net the Blue Jays a pick by signing elsewhere. He's drawn mild interest from the Rangers and Mets, but perhaps his market could pick up now that Heath Bell is off the board and Santos has been moved. The 32-year-old Francisco posted a solid 3.55 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio in 50 2/3 innings this past year for the Jays.

Thu Nov 24 201100:06Frank Francisco offered arb. by Blue Jays
Frank Francisco was offered arbitration by Toronto.
Francisco has already drawn interest from the Rangers and a couple of other teams, so he may decline the arbitration offer in seek of a multi-year deal. The 32-year-old Type B free agent posted a solid 3.55 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio in 50 2/3 innings this past year for the Jays.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers have expressed interest in bringing back Frank Francisco.
Texas will need a closer if Neftali Feliz is shifted to the rotation next spring, and Francisco has proven capable of handling the job in the past. The 32-year-old free agent posted a 3.55 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio in 50 2/3 innings this year for Toronto. He's also drawn mild interest from the Mets.

Wed Nov 16 201118:39Mets have spoken Frank Francisco's agent
Newsday's Ken Davidoff reports that the Mets have spoke with Frank Francisco's representatives.
Francisco, 32, posted a 3.55 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio in 50 2/3 major league innings this year. The Mets are likely hoping to sign him on the cheap, but the right-hander is talented enough to score a decent contract.

Sun Nov 13 201119:21Report: Toronto could trade for next closer
The Blue Jays may look to trade for their next closer, according to the Toronto Sun.
Toronto isn't interested in paying the price free agent closer's have been requesting thus far, according to the story. If they aren't able to get a stopper at a reasonable price, the Blue Jays may just turn to the trade market. The Jays have been linked to Ryan Madson, Heath Bell and Joe Nathan, amongst others. What does Toronto have to trade? "Prospects," said Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos.

Sun Sep 18 201116:09Frank Francisco saves 16th
Frank Francisco nailed down his 16th save in Sunday's win over the Yankees.
Francisco is starting to settle into the closer role after regaining the job last month, as he's converted all six opportunities. He still often makes it interesting, but Francisco's job is safe for the rest of the year, particularly with Jon Rauch out.

Thu Sep 1 201115:55Frank Francisco earns 12th save
Frank Francisco pitched a flawless ninth for his 12th save Thursday against the Orioles.
Francisco has gone 14 straight appearances (all of exactly one inning) without allowing a run. If he keeps this up, the Blue Jays might have interest in re-signing him to remain their closer next year.

Thu Aug 25 201102:58Francisco returns, converts 11th save
Frank Francisco returned to action on Wednesday, locking down his 11th save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Francisco walked the first batter, but set down the next three to secure the win. After encountering shoulder tightness on Sunday, he appears ready to resume closer duties at least until Jon Rauch returns from the disabled list.

Sun Aug 21 201119:30Francisco scratched due to sore shoulder
Frank Francisco warmed up in Sunday's game but was scratched because of soreness in his right shoulder.
Casey Janssen hung on for a three-inning save in the 1-0 victory over Oakland. Francisco is amidst a ten-inning scoreless streak, which has coincided with Jon Rauch hitting the disabled list. The veteran reliever will likely be examined in the coming days and we'll know more about his status at that time. If he requires a stint on the disabled list, Janssen and Shawn Camp would most likely be the leading candidates for saves.

Thu Aug 18 201106:06Francisco: 10 straight scorless frames
Frank Francisco tossed a perfect ninth inning Wednesday in a non-save situation, raising his scoreless innings streak to 10.
With the Jays up 5-1 to start the frame, Francisco threw eight of 10 pitches for strikes to set down the Mariners in order. This was his first appearance since closer Jon Rauch went on the DL. Francisco has been somewhat of a ninth inning liability over the years, and this season has been no exception. But if he strings together a few more scoreless performances while Rauch is sidelined, he could regain his former closer's job.

Tue Aug 16 201120:34Frank Francisco to take over as Jays closer
Blue Jays manager John Farrell confirmed that Frank Francisco will take over as the team's closer while Jon Rauch is on the disabled list.
As expected. Francisco has blown four of 14 save chances this season and has a 4.17 ERA and 1.50 WHIP for the year, but he's also struck out over a batter per inning and has been unscored upon in his last nine appearances. It's possible he'll keep the job over the long haul if he fares well. Casey Janssen will serve as the primary setup man.

Thu Jul 14 201117:08Francisco out as closer temporarily
Frank Francisco has been ousted by Jon Rauch at closer.
The Blue Jays aren't saying how long the change will last, but the guess here is that Rauch will maintain the ninth inning role until he coughs it up. Francisco has allowed five earned runs in three July relief appearances. Rauch has been better.

Fri Jul 8 201119:22Francisco won't close games for a while
Blue Jays manager John Farrell told Sportsnet's The Fan 590 that Frank Francisco is unlikely to be used in save situations for a while.
"At this point if that means taking Frankie to get a couple of outings to build back the confidence to get him going in the right direction, as we've done earlier in the season, that may be in the cards here as we move forward in the short-term," Farrell said. Farrell wouldn't comment on who would be used in save situations while Francisco sorts through his issues, but Jon Rauch and Octavio Dotel are the obvious options. Dotel has pitched the best of late, having been unscored upon in his last eight appearances.

Thu Jul 7 201122:53Frank Francisco implodes again
Frank Francisco imploded again Thursday, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out in a loss to the Indians.
Francisco started the ninth with the Jays nursing a 4-0 but was removed after loading the bases. Luis Perez then relieved him and struck out the first batter he faced before serving up a single and walk-off grand slam to Travis Hafner. With five runs allowed in three July outings, it's probably a safe bet that Francisco doesn't get the Jays' next save chance. It could go to Octavio Dotel, who has been their best reliever of late.

Fri Jul 1 201116:30Frank Francisco blows fourth save in loss
Frank Francisco took his fourth blown save and his fourth loss Thursday against the Phillies.
Francisco started the ninth by walking Placido Polanco and then watched in horror as Juan Rivera turned himself all around in pursuit of Chase Utley's fly to left. It went as a double, even though Rivera took a horrible path and still got a glove on it. Had Corey Patterson been out there, it likely would have been a routine flyout. After that, Ryan Howard delivered a little flare to shallow left for a two-run single. Francisco deserves the blame for the walk, but he probably won't be yanked from the closer's role again based on this. He had been 4-for-4 saving games since overtaking Jon Rauch.

Sat Jun 25 201100:09Frank Francisco notches eighth save
Frank Francisco nailed down his eighth save with a perfect inning Friday.
Remarkably, it's just his fourth clean appearance out 24 this season and just his third in a save situation. But, with Francisco receiving all three of the Blue Jays' save chances since June 15, he appears to have a grip on the team's ever-evolving ninth-inning situation -- at least for now.
