Sat May 28 201118:02Francisco blows save opportunity Saturday
Frank Francisco blew his second straight save opportunity Saturday against the White Sox.
To be fair, Francisco was a bit unlucky in this one. He jammed Paul Konerko badly for what very well could have been the third and final out, but the ball managed to find a home in short right field and plate Alexei Ramirez with the tying run. It's difficult to know where John Farrell will turn for the next save opportunity, but we're guessing it won't be Francisco.

Thu May 26 201116:45Blue Jays now going with closer-by-committee
Blue Jays manager John Farrell confirmed Thursday this his club is now going closer-by-committee.
Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Octavio Dotel will act as the primary options in save situations, but Jason Frasor could also be worked into the mix. It's a strategy that makes sense from the managerial side of things, but it's a major pain for fantasy owners of Francisco and Rauch.

Wed May 25 201122:56Blue Jays could share save opportunities
Although Frank Francisco is still expected to see save chances, Blue Jays manager John Farrell indicated that he could go with others based on matchups.
"We haven't anointed anyone else," Farrell said, "yet we still have other options to close. Frank is still looked upon as a guy who will finish out games in the ninth inning. If availability or matchups prove otherwise, then we've got other options, that being (Octavio) Dotel, (Jason) Frasor or (Jon) Rauch." It sounds like Francisco is probably still the top option, but he's on very shaky ground after blowing his second save in seven chances Tuesday. He's posted a 6.23 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 13 innings.

Tue May 24 201121:51Francisco blows second save of season Tuesday
Frank Francisco blew his second save of the season on Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing two runs in a 5-4 loss.
Francisco allowed a Jorge Posada double with one out and then induced a Derek Jeter ground out. Curtis Granderson singled home Posada and stole second before he was driven in by a Mark Teixeira base hit. Frankie began the season on the disabled list and has struggled through an up-and-down season since returning, posting a 6.23 ERA. He has plenty of competition for the closer's job with Jon Rauch, Octavio Dotel and Jason Frasor on the roster, but so far he has had manager John Farrell's confidence. We'll see if Farrell has a change of heart after this outing. The skipper prefers Rauch in the eighth inning, so Dotel would have the inside track on saves if Francisco is deposed.

Thu May 19 201121:41Frank Francisco converts third straight
Frank Francisco converted his third straight save chance Thursday, retiring the Rays in order on just seven pitches.
It's nice to see Frankie nail one down without giving his owners heart palpitations first. Jon Rauch hasn't had a save opportunity since blowing one on May 3, with Francisco receiving all five chances since then. He can be shaky on occasion, but he's the clear ninth inning man in Toronto right now.

Thu Apr 28 201117:45Jays' Francisco picks up win in relief
Frank Francisco notched the win in relief after retiring all four Rangers he retired on Thursday.
Francisco, who entered a 2-2 game in the eighth, stayed in to pitch the ninth after the Jays took a 5-2 lead. He ended up striking out three of the four batters he faced, He's allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings since coming off the DL, so he's probably ready to take over the closer's role if that's what the Jays want. Jon Rauch is 4-for-4 saving games, but he was signed to serve as a setup man.

Tue Apr 19 201112:13Blue Jays activate closer Francisco from DL
Blue Jays activated RHP Frank Francisco from the 15-day disabled list.
Francisco pitched well this weekend at Single-A Dunedin and should be ready to reclaim ninth inning duties from Jon Rauch within the next several days. The 31-year-old Francisco posted a healthy 3.76 ERA and 1.27 over 56 appearances last season in Texas. He needs to be owned in all eligible fantasy leagues.

Sun Apr 17 201115:31Frank Francisco makes final rehab appearance
Frank Francisco (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning Sunday for Single-A Dunedin in what is supposed to be his final appearance.
He allowed a hit but struck out two in the outing. Francisco has pitched really well the last few times out and all signs point to him being activated for Tuesday's game. Feel free to insert him into your lineup for this week, as he should immediately return to the closer role.

Sun Apr 17 201110:53Frank Francisco could be activated Tuesday
Frank Francisco (shoulder) will make another rehab appearance at Single-A Sunday and could be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.
Francisco started out slow, but his results during the rehab assignment have been improving, as he struck out three over 1 1/3 scoreless innings Friday. Barring a setback, it sounds like the Toronto closer should be in active fantasy lineups for the upcoming week. Jon Rauch will return to a setup role.

Sat Apr 16 201110:06Frank Francisco has nice rehab outing
Frank Francisco (shoulder) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out three and walking one for Single-A Dunedin Friday.
That's more like it. It's not clear what Francisco's velocity was like in the outing, but his performance has been steadily improving. He could return to the Jays next week.

Tue Apr 12 201122:06Francisco allowed an unearned run in rehab
Frank Francisco (shoulder) allowed an unearned run on one hit in one inning in a rehab appearance Tuesday.
Francisco has been getting pummeled during his rehab to this point, so this showing can be seen as a definite improvement. The real concern is that his velocity is down to the 89-90 mph range, so he'll need to up that a few more ticks before being activated.

Tue Apr 12 201108:51Francisco getting shelled in Single-A rehab
Frank Francisco (shoulder) has allowed six runs in 1 2/3 minor league rehab innings.
Not good. Francisco is facing Single-A batters and having trouble retiring them on a consistent basis. Blue Jays manager John Farrell told reporters Monday that the right-hander still has a ways to go: "The feeling is that he needs more reps, more innings on the mound. He's not pitching consistently at that 92-94 mph range with a chance to go above that. He's at 89-90, and he'll touch 92-93, and that's why that repetition is needed."

Tue Apr 5 201117:16Francisco needs multiple rehab appearances
Frank Francisco (pectoral) will likely need at least three minor league rehab appearances before being activated from the disabled list.
Francisco is scheduled to make his first appearance Thursday for Single-A Dunedin. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he should be back sometime in the next 10 days or so. Jon Rauch will continue to handle save chances for now.

Sun Apr 3 201113:34Frank Francisco to make rehab appearance
Frank Francisco (pectoral) will make a rehab appearance Thursday for Single-A Dunedin.
He shouldn't need more than one or two rehab appearances before being activated, assuming everything goes according to plan. Francisco could be back by next weekend.

Sun Mar 27 201110:49Frank Francisco throws from 90 feet
Frank Francisco (pectoral) threw from 90 feet Sunday without any issues.
Good news. Francisco will likely be ready for a bullpen session soon. Though he's expected to begin the season on the disabled list, he probably won't need to miss that much time. Jon Rauch will be the Jays' closer until Francisco is ready.

Thu Mar 24 201110:32Francisco (pectoral) to play catch by Sunday
Frank Francisco (pectoral) thinks he'll be able to play catch by Sunday.
Francisco is currently dealing with soreness in his right pectoral muscle and inflammation in his right biceps muscle, but he tells Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com that his shoulder "doesn't hurt." While the Blue Jays are expected to place him on the disabled list, Francisco could return as soon as the second week of the season. Jon Rauch will handle save chances in the meantime.

Tue Mar 22 201115:55Francisco visits Dr. Andrews, will head to DL
Dr. James Andrews found no structural damage in Frank Francisco's arm Tuesday.
Francisco is going to open the regular season on the 15-day disabled list to be safe, but he should be back in action by mid-April. Look for Jon Rauch or Octavio Dotel to handle save opportunities for Toronto in his absence. Francisco is still the guy to draft in fantasy leagues.

Sun Mar 20 201115:53Francisco headed to see Dr. James Andrews
Frank Francisco (pectoral) is scheduled to get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, likely on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.
Francisco felt discomfort during a bullpen session Saturday and subsequently underwent a clean MRI. It's never good news, however, when Dr. Andrews gets involved. With Francisco and Octavio Dotel both questions marks for Opening Day, Jon Rauch is starting to become a hot name in fantasy circles.

Sun Mar 20 201111:54Francisco and Dotel still hurting
Frank Francisco (pectoral) and Octavio Dotel (hamstring) both may not be ready for Opening Day.
Francisco felt discomfort during a bullpen session Saturday. Dotel also tossed a bullpen but hasn't been able to shake pain in his hamstring. General manager Alex Anthopoulos said Toronto will make a decision by mid-week on the relievers. At this point it would be wise for fantasy owners to grab Jon Rauch, who would be the team's closer if Francisco is shelved.

Tue Mar 15 201111:24Francisco (shoulder) scratched from outing
Frank Francisco (shoulder) has been scratched from a scheduled Tuesday outing.
Francisco is still having problems with soreness in his throwing shoulder and has made only two Grapefruit League appearances to this point. The Blue Jays are hoping that a couple of days of rest will solve everything for the projected ninth inning hurler.
