Tue Jun 12 201212:39Ogando to miss 4-6 weeks with groin injury
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that Alexi Ogando (groin) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
An awful blow for the Rangers, who are suddenly losing pitchers left and right. Ogando suffered the injury in a spot start Sunday, but has been an important part of the Rangers' bullpen this season. He is scheduled to get an injection Tuesday to accelerate the healing process, but he'll be sidelined through the All-Star break.

As expected. Ogando will make a spot start Sunday and would prefer to stay in the rotation, but the Rangers like what he gives them in relief. Manager Ron Washington thinks Ogando should be able to throw around 60 pitches against the Giants.

Thu Jun 7 201212:26Alexi Ogando to start Sunday against Giants
Alexi Ogando will start Sunday against the Giants in place of the injured Derek Holland.
Ogando might not be able to go more than four or five innings, but he still makes for an intriguing streamer option in mixed fantasy leagues versus light-hitting San Fran. The 28-year-old right-hander has registered a sparkling 2.27 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 33/7 K/BB ratio in 31 2/3 innings this season out of the Texas bullpen.

Sat Mar 24 201201:27Alexi Ogando goes 4 2/3 scoreless
Alexi Ogando pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings Friday in the Rangers' 4-1 win over the Giants.
Ogando figures to be the Rangers' fifth starter if Neftali Feliz opens the season on the disabled list. Otherwise, it's back to the bullpen with him. He'll still be worth using in AL-only leagues as a setup man, but he'll only be an option in shallow mixed leagues if he's starting games.

Thu Feb 16 201212:02Ogando heading into camp as starter
Rangers manager Ron Washington confirmed Thursday that Alexi Ogando will head into camp as a starter.
Ogando seems likely to be in the Rangers' bullpen on Opening Day, but there's no harm in stretching him out during spring training in case a hole needs to be filled because of a injury. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a cool 3.51 ERA and 126/43 K/BB ratio in 169 innings (29 starts) last season. He'll make a fine long reliever or setup man.

Sun Oct 23 201116:56Washington: Ogando may be unavailable Sunday
Rangers manager Ron Washington said that he'll try to stay away from using Alexi Ogando in Game 4 of the World Series against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Everybody else is available out of the bullpen, though Game 6 ALCS starter Colby Lewis will not be. Ogando has pitched in all three World Series games thus far, but he's struggled mightily. Ogando gave up four runs -- three earned -- on three hits, two walks and a homer in Game 3. He's notched just one total inning in the World Series and surrendered seven base runners. A night off might do him some good. Ogando was stellar in the ALCS and ALDS.

Thu Oct 13 201115:01Ogando likely unavailable in Game 5 vs. DET
Rangers manager Ron Washington said that he'll try to stay away from using Alexi Ogando in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Tigers on Thursday.
Ogando threw 39 pitches over two innings in Game 4 on Wednesday, so he would likely only pitch in an emergency situation. "That's not to say if we need to get one out or one inning, he won't be used ... if it's a winning situation," said Washington. "But I'd like to stay away from Ogando if we can." Ogando, who was moved to the bullpen following the regular season, has one run over 8 1/3 innings during the postseason while striking out nine and walking two.

Sun Oct 9 201116:30Ogando could be available in Monday's Game 2
Alexi Ogando would not have been available to pitch in Game 2 of the ALCS Sunday, but he could be at Texas' disposal on Monday.
Ogando's availability Monday would certainly be a nice silver-lining for the Rangers after Game 2 was postponed by a day. Ogando, who was a starter during the regular season, struck out three over two shutout innings in Game 1's 3-2 victory over the Tigers Saturday, logging 32 pitches. The youngster who posted a stellar 3.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 126/43 K/BB ratio in 169 innings (29 starts) this season also tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against the Rays during the ALDS. He has been an excellent addition to an already stellar bullpen.

Ogando, who was a starter during the regular season, tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against the Rays during the ALDS. The Rangers haven't set their rotation for the ALCS yet, but C.J. Wilson is expected to be followed by some sequence of Derek Holland, Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison.

Thu Sep 29 201116:52Alexi Ogando in bullpen for ALDS
Alexi Ogando will pitch out of the bullpen this October.
Ogando posted a stellar 3.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 126/43 K/BB ratio in 169 innings (29 starts) this season, but he was a reliever one year ago and doesn't have the built-up endurance to carry on into the postseason rotation. He should do fine in a setup role.

Sat Sep 24 201118:55Ogando perfect over two innings Saturday
Alexi Ogando tossed two perfect innings Saturday against the Mariners.
He struck out two, walked none and threw 19 out of 28 pitches for strikes in the abbreviated outing. His early exit was planned, as the Rangers are expected to use him in relief during the playoffs. Ogando has a 3.54 ERA and 125/43 K/BB ratio over 168 innings this season.

Sat Sep 17 201111:21Alexi Ogando likely to set up in playoffs
Alexi Ogando is likely to be moved into a setup role for postseason play.
Rangers manager Ron Washington insists he hasn't lost faith in Ogando's ability to start despite the righty's second-half struggles. But, with C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Derek Holland and Matt Harrison fully capable of filling the four postseason rotation spots, moving Ogando to the bullpen makes sense. Ogando will make his final start of the season on September 24 against the Mariners.

Fri Sep 16 201120:30Alexi Ogando won't start again until Sept. 24
Alexi Ogando won't start again until September 24.
Rangers manager Ron Washington insists that Ogando's spot in the rotation isn't in jeopardy, but the team will do everything they can to get him extra rest down the stretch. Though he pitched well in his most recent start, Ogando holds a 4.70 ERA in the second half as he tires in his first year as a starter.
