Tue May 20 201409:16Phils talking about moving Asche to outfield
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies are talking internally about moving Cody Asche to the outfield next season.
The potential move would clear a spot for top prospect Maikel Franco to play third base in the majors. Asche owns a .259/.344/.444 batting line to go along with four home runs and 18 RBI over 37 games this season, but he has struggled with his defense at times. The Phillies aren't getting much offense out of their outfield this year, so they are willing to consider all options.

Sun May 18 201416:47Asche part of Phils' loud offense with homer
Cody Asche went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Reds.
Asche took lefty reliever Manny Parra deep in the seventh inning for his fourth homer of the year. Asche's playing time appeared to be in jeopardy during his recent slump which also included a three-error game. But he has put up three multi-hit games in a row and has looked very comfortable against left-handed pitching. Asche's slashing a respectable .259/.344/.444 now.

Tue May 13 201422:10Asche makes three errors in Phillies' loss
Cody Asche went 0-for-3 at the plate and committed three errors in the field as the Phillies lost to the Angels on Tuesday.
It was a very ugly night for Asche, who had appeared to be making progress a week ago when he hit a grand slam against the Blue Jays. While his .708 OPS isn't shameful by any means, he is a liability defensively and could lose playing time sooner or later if he doesn't show improvement. The top three candidates to usurp Asche's playing time are Reid Brignac, Cesar Hernandez, and prospect Maikel Franco, though the latter is more of a longshot depending on the Phillies' level of desperation.

Sun May 11 201418:28Asche has two hits, RBI in loss against Mets
Cody Asche went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a loss to the Mets on Sunday.
Asche delivered an RBI double in the second inning to get the Phillies on the board. The hits were his first since he enjoyed a four-hit day against the Blue Jays on May 6. Asche is hitting .233/.330/.400 as the Phillies' starting third baseman this season.

Tue May 6 201422:17Asche's 4 hits, grand slam not enough for PHI
Cody Asche went 4-for-4 with a double and a game-tying grand slam, but the Phillies lost to the Blue Jays in 10 innings on Tuesday.
Asche's sixth-inning grand slam off of Drew Hutchison knotted the game up at five apiece, his third home run of the season. Asche had slumped early in the season and was starting to lose playing time to Jayson Nix and Freddy Galvis, but he has started hit hit better lately. He is still unlikely to start on Wednesday against lefty Mark Buehrle, but Tuesday's effort certainly will give manager Ryne Sandberg more confidence in putting him in the lineup in the future. Asche's current .767 OPS is surprisingly the ninth-highest among all third basemen in baseball, minimum 70 plate appearances.

Mon Mar 31 201418:29Cody Asche homers, scores four times
Cody Asche went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, a walk and four runs scored in the win over the Rangers on Monday.
Asche held off a challenge from phenom Maikel Franco to remain the Phillies' third baseman, a subject that could be revisited in a couple of months. Asche, though, is the better defender of the two, so there won't be any reason to sit him if he can wield an average stick.

Cody Asche went 2-for-4 and hit his third spring homer against the Phillies on Saturday.
With Maikel Franco struggling of late, there's no longer any doubt that Asche will have the Phillies' third base job early on. We still like Franco to overtake him later this season.

Wed Mar 19 201417:23Cody Asche homers, walks against Jays
Cody Asche homered and walked in three plate appearances versus the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Asche has a clear advantage over Maikel Franco defensively, so if he can pick it up offensively, the third base job is probably his. He entered today with a .138 average in 29 at-bats this spring.

Sun Mar 16 201417:42Cody Asche goes 0-for-2
Cody Asche went 0-for-2 on Sunday and is batting .138 with 11 strikeouts in 29 at-bats this spring.
It sounded like the Phillies were giving up on Maikel Franco as a third baseman a couple of months ago, but they've revisited the idea this spring, and while Franco looks like he'll be very error-prone, he certainly offers the more intriguing bat of the two. Asche needs to get it together quickly.
