Sun Apr 1 201208:25No timetable for Dustin McGowan
Dustin McGowan (foot) remains without a timetable to return.
"The foot continues to feel better but we're going to make sure that every symptom is out of there because he admits he started to alter his arm slot when the foot issue started to emerge," said Blue Jays manager John Farrell. "That begins to get into a dangerous area, and we're not going to risk anything along those lines." It's not surprising that the Jays will proceed with extra caution given McGowan's injury history. Kyle Drabek and Aaron Laffey are competing to hold down a rotation spot until the plantar fasciitis in McGowan's right foot heals.

Fri Mar 30 201211:15Dustin McGowan still not throwing
Dustin McGowan (foot) has yet to resume throwing.
He'll begin the season on the disabled list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. It's really unfortunate for a guy that's had so many arm issues in his career that a foot injury sidelines him when he appeared to be a lock for the Opening Day rotation. There's no timetable for when McGowan will return.

Wed Mar 28 201211:39McGowan (foot) to begin year on disabled list
Dustin McGowan (foot) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.
McGowan, who signed a new two-year, $3 million contract with the Jays this week, is currently sidelined with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The injury isn't considered serious, but he simply won't have enough time to get stretched out. Brett Cecil and Kyle Drabek should both open the year with rotation spots.

Mon Mar 26 201215:57Blue Jays sign McGowan to two-year extension
Blue Jays signed RHP Dustin McGowan to a two-year extension.
Terms of the new contract have not been released, but Toronto holds a team option in Year Three. The 29-year-old right-hander was arbitration-eligible for the final time this past winter and thus set to hit the free agent market after the season. He's currently nursing a foot injury that might end his quest to win the Jays' fifth starter job.

Sun Mar 25 201216:50Toronto has no timetable for McGowan (foot)
The Blue Jays have no timetable for Dustin McGowan's (foot) return.
"It looks like he's going to be fine," Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos said. McGowan, however, will need to be evaluated further before a rehabilitation schedule is formulated. McGowan was forced from Sunday's game with a right foot injury. It was most unfortunate timing for the veteran, as he's battling Aaron Laffey and Kyle Drabek for a spot in Toronto's rotation.

Sun Mar 25 201214:10McGowan exits game with right foot injury
Dustin McGowan was forced from Sunday's game in the second inning with a right foot injury.
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but a setback could impact McGowan's quest as the Jays' fifth starter. Aaron Laffey and Kyle Drabek are also in consideration for Toronto's rotation this spring.

Tue Mar 20 201223:57McGowan knocked around in minor league outing
Dustin McGowan was knocked around for five runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings Tuesday in a start against a group of Yankees' minor leaguers.
He threw 40 out of 68 pitches for strikes while walking two and striking out five. While the line was pretty ugly, McGowan felt fine physically and admitted that he didn't have the same adrenaline rush facing minor league hitters. The 29-year-old right-hander has yet to make it through three innings this spring, but he's a good bet to open the year as the Jays' fifth starter since he's out of options.

Mon Dec 12 201119:50Blue Jays, McGowan agree to one-year deal
Blue Jays and RHP Dustin McGowan avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 contract.
McGowan made his way back to the big leagues for the first time since 2008 this past season, posting an ugly 6.43 ERA and 20/13 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. The 29-year-old right-hander was arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.

Fri Sep 16 201122:42McGowan decent vs. Yankees
Dustin McGowan did a solid job in a no-decision against the Yankees Friday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-4 win.
McGowan found out he was starting just a couple hours before first pitch, as scheduled starter Brett Cecil cut up his finger. He left with the lead, but the Blue Jays' bullpen wasn't able to hold it. Not surprisingly, McGowan hasn't been terrible sharp in his first three outings since 2008, posting a 7.50 ERA. He'll get another star next week against the Angels.

Thu Sep 8 201116:13McGowan to start Sunday against Orioles
Dustin McGowan will start Sunday against the Orioles.
Luis Perez, who allowed eight runs over just 2 23 innings Tuesday against the Red Sox, will have his turn in the rotation skipped. McGowan hasn't started a major league game since 2008 and should probably be avoided for mixed league fantasy purposes.

Thu Sep 8 201109:04McGowan may start for Jays on Sunday
Blue Jays manager John Farrell indicated Wednesday that Dustin McGowan could replace Luis Perez in the starting rotation Sunday against the Orioles.
Perez is still listed as the starter, but the Blue Jays are considering a change after he allowed eight runs over just 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday against the Red Sox. "There's discussion about that," said Farrell. "Right now, we're anticipating Luis going to start on Sunday. We may determine some time in the next couple of days that we may look to make a shift there and start Dustin in that spot." McGowan allowed three runs over four innings Tuesday in his first appearance in the big leagues since 2008, but was being groomed as a starter in the minors. He could hold some value in AL-only leagues down the stretch.

Tue Sep 6 201122:48Dustin McGowan finally makes it back
Dustin McGowan struggled Tuesday in his first major league appearance since July of 2008, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over four relief innings in a loss to the Red Sox.
The good news, though, is that McGowan's fastball was touching 96 mph and he struck out five over his four frames. It's a great story, as McGowan's career had been in serious jeopardy due to a series of shoulder an arm injuries. He could wind up getting some starts down the stretch.

Mon Sep 5 201109:53Blue Jays activate Dustin McGowan
Blue Jays activated RHP Dustin McGowan from the 60-day disabled list.
McGowan hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2008 because of shoulder surgery and a string of subsequent arm injuries. The 29-year-old looked sharp during a lengthy minor league rehab assignment and should do fine as a long reliever for Toronto. He also has the ability to make spot starts.

Fri Sep 2 201118:18McGowan (forearm) to return from DL soon
Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos indicated Friday that Dustin McGowan (forearm) will likely be activated from the disabled list soon.
McGowan hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2008, but there's a good chance he'll be back in the big leagues in the next couple of days. Now 29 years old, he has a 2.80 ERA and 35/14 K/BB ratio over 12 rehab starts between High-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire. It's not clear if he'll return as a starter or reliever.

Thu Jun 30 201116:44McGowan to begin rehab assignment Saturday
Dustin McGowan (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Single-A Dunedin.
McGowan will throw only two innings in his rehab debut but should progress quickly to normal starter-length outings. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008 due to shoulder problems and recently began experiencing forearm stiffness. The hope is that all those injury problems are now behind him.

Mon Jun 27 201121:55McGowan (forearm) tosses bullpen session
Updating a previous item, Dustin McGowan (forearm) was able to make it through a bullpen session Monday without any issues.
We heard earlier today that McGowan was shut down last week due to forearm soreness, but it didn't keep him off a mound for long. The oft-injured right-hander made some major strides while pitching in extended spring training, though it's not clear when he'll go out on an official rehab assignment.

Dustin McGowan was recently shut down due to forearm stiffness.
McGowan was finally starting to get back on track during extended spring training, but Blue Jays manager John Farrell said Monday he felt "a little bit of forearm stiffness" during a bullpen session last week. While an MRI revealed no structural damage, he won't throw a bullpen session again until the Jays feel he is ready. McGowan hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing shoulder surgery in 2008, but he previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2004.
