Wed Feb 5 201422:34Josh Smith shoots well in loss to Magic
Josh Smith hit 11-of-19 shots for 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block in Wednesday's loss to Orlando.
Of course, there was some bad to go along with the good, as he was 0-for-4 from downtown and just 3-of-9 from the free throw line with two turnovers. But after his brutal shooting over his last two games (9-of-30) his owners will welcome tonight's line.

Tue Feb 4 201400:01Josh Smith can't hit the broadside in loss
Josh Smith hit just 5-of-20 shots (including a three) with six rebounds, six assists, three steals and six turnovers in Monday's loss to the Heat.
Smith's shooting issues are hilarious and tonight he went 1-of-16 on shots outside of three feet. How the Pistons can stand and watch this happen on a nightly basis is beyond us, and if any player in the NBA could use a Rudy Gay-like change in how he's deployed it's Smoove.

Sat Feb 1 201422:54Josh Smith flirts with triple-double in win
Josh Smith hit just 4-of-10 shots to finish with nine points, nine rebounds, seven assists, four steals and a block, but also had five turnovers, didn't hit a 3-pointer, and missed four of his five free throws on Saturday.
This was a nice example of Smith's season. He filled up the stat sheet, but probably did as much damage to his owner's teams as he helped. He came into this one hot, scoring between 13 and 25 points in his previous three games, and has cut down on his 3-point attempts (1.4 attempts per game over his last five). Despite his shortcomings, he's still a must-start in all formats.

Mon Jan 20 201417:05Josh Smith makes 12-of-22 from the field
Josh Smith was effective from the field in Monday's loss to the Clippers, making 12-of-22 from the field for 24 points with six boards and one steal in 42 minutes.
He shot 12 of his 22 shots from beyond eight feet, but actually made seven of those. The Pistons need a shooter in the worst way right now and shot 2-of-14 from deep including all three of Smith's three shots from that range. While Smith has been under fire for his unwise shot taking, he's made 47.6 percent from the field for 19.4 points per game.

Sat Jan 18 201422:08Josh Smith scores 20 in second half in win
Josh Smith scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half of Saturday's 104-98 win against the Wizards to go with eight boards, one assist, two steals one block and four turnovers.
He shot 2-of-3 from within eight feet and 4-of-14 beyond that range in the win. Smith's a free athlete and he made some comments about not caring where his shots come from. He's still one of the least efficient scorers in the NBA and his move to small forward hasn't been too great, but he can add stats in just about every other area.

Fri Jan 17 201423:11Josh Smith anything but 'Smoove' vs. Jazz
Josh Smith missed five of his six FG attempts vs. Utah on Friday, finishing Detroit's second consecutive loss with just four points and two rebounds in 24 minutes.
He was anything but 'Smoove' tonight, as his stat line attests, and once again fell victim to iffy shot selection with half of his attempts coming from downtown (he missed them all). Fantasy owners simply have to take the sour with the sweet -- this is the same guy who averaged 23.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.0 blocks in the past two games.

Fri Jan 17 201414:16Josh Smith cares not for your shot charts
Josh Smith said he doesn't pay attention to his field goal percentage inside eight feet vs. outside eight feet.
"It's easy to use me as a scapegoat," Smith said. "Because I do so much on the court and I'm so passionate about winning and because I'm a competitor, my game can get misunderstood by people who don't understand." Take that, stat nerds. The NBA making a huge leap on their stats has brought Smith in the foreground for having the worst field goal percentage among forwards. Specifically, he shoots 29.6 percent from outside of the restricted area, so the criticism is definitely warranted. Inefficiency aside, Smith can put up stats like few others and is having a solid season with the Pistons.

Fri Jan 10 201422:19Josh Smith scores 22, just misses 5x5 line
Josh Smith stuffed the stat sheet in Friday's win over the Sixers with 22 points, 13 boards, seven assists, four steals, five blocks and two 3-pointers in 43 minutes.
He was one steal from a 5x5 stat line and was all over the court. Smith did suffer a minor leg injury late in the fourth quarter, but did not need to miss time. On the down side, he shot 8-of-23 from the field and has the lowest field goal percentage of any qualifying forward in the league on the season. His 59.2 percent from the charity stripe also ranks last among qualifying small forwards.

Wed Jan 8 201400:19Josh Smith fills stat sheet in loss to Knicks
Josh Smith hit 6-of-14 shots and a miraculous 8-of-9 free throws on his way to 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals, two blocks and a 3-pointer, and also turned the ball over eight times in Tuesday's loss to the Knicks.
If you ignore the stellar free throw shooting, which is a rare occurrence for Smoove, this was a classic line for him, with plenty of good and some bad thrown in for good measure. He's broken out of the slump he was in, averaging 16.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 1.3 blocks and 4.0 turnovers over his last three games. He's also hit just one 3-pointer during that stretch, while taking just seven of them, which is an improvement. He's also been hitting his free throws, going 13-of-17 from the line over his last three games.

Sun Jan 5 201415:46Josh Smith's offense still in No Man's Land
Josh Smith's offensive inefficiencies continued on Sunday vs. the Grizzlies, shooting 6-of-17 from the field for 13 points with nine board, three assists and two blocks in 35 minutes.
His dud today dropped his season shooting to below 40 percent and he also dropped to 58.6 percent from the charity stripe. Among qualifiers, Smith is last among forwards in field goal percentage and last among small forwards in free throw percentage. He is not fun to own in Roto leagues, but he is at least filling it up in other areas for those in head-to-head formats.

Mon Dec 30 201310:07Mo Cheeks: Josh Smith will start on Monday
Mo Cheeks confirmed that Josh Smith will be in the starting lineup on Monday, after he was benched for the second half of Saturday's game.
"We came to our agreement," Cheeks said. "Y'all [media] are the only ones who got a problem with it because me and Josh are fine." Smith said on Saturday that he took "real offense" to Cheeks' insinuations that he wasn't playing hard enough, but we don't expect this minor conflict to have any lasting implications.

Sun Dec 29 201309:16Josh Smith benched, offended by Mo Cheeks
Josh Smith, who was benched for the second half of Saturday's game, said that he took "real offense" to coach Mo Cheeks' accusation that Smith wasn't playing hard.
"To me, it's over with," Smith said. "But you know, some people hold grudges longer than others. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not saying that [Cheeks] does. I don't know." When asked whether Smith would start Monday's game, Cheeks replied, "I assume he will. I don't know why he wouldn't. We'll wait until next game gets there." Smoove was also benched back on Nov. 12 but in the very next game he bounced back with a near 5x5 in 44 minutes, and his fantasy owners should simply hang tight.

Sat Dec 28 201322:07Josh Smith quiet again on Saturday
Josh Smith hit just 2-of-7 shots for four points and four rebounds in 18 minutes on Saturday.
He wasn't much better on Friday when he was 2-of-13 for five points. That six-game hot streak he went on is quickly becoming a distant memory, but now is a good time to try to buy low on Smith before he gets hot again. The Pistons were down 62-41 at half time, so he simply never got into a groove with the game out of reach so early.

Fri Dec 27 201321:51No Range Shawty: Josh Smith scores five
Josh Smith had an off night against the Magic on Friday, shooting 2-of-13 from the field for five points with seven boards, one assist and two blocks in 22 minutes.
The Pistons came out flat tonight and this certainly won't be the last time J-Smoove has an ugly shooting line. Smith dropped his season shooting to 40.6 percent from the field after tonight, but his fantasy owners likely aren't complaining with is averages of 15.8 points, 6.5 boards, 3.3 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.5 blocks and 1.1 triples.

Tue Dec 24 201300:33Smith rolls as the Pistons do in blowout win
Josh Smith hit 10-of-18 shots for 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in Monday's blowout win over the Cavs on Monday.
This game was over before it started, so luckily the Pistons' main fantasy guys were still able to get theirs. Brandon Jennings went for 21 and 13 with two steals and two threes, Andre Drummond went for 14 and 11 with a block, and Greg Monroe went for 11 and 11 in the blowout win.

Wed Dec 18 201323:43Josh Smith scores 20 in win over Celtics
Josh Smith had 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, four steals, a block and a 3-pointer on 8-of-18 shooting in Wednesday's win.
He's cooking, averaging 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.3 blocks and 0.6 3-pointers on 34-of-64 shooting over his last three games. And that's easily the best stretch of the season for Smoove, meaning it's time for owners to think about selling high before his shots start missing again. Andre Drummond also bounced back from a non double-double night with 14 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks.

Wed Dec 18 201310:08Pistons feeding Josh Smith on the blocks
Pistons coach Mo Cheeks recently encouraged Josh Smith to get the ball in the post more often, and the result has been back-to-back games with 30+ points.
"We talked about ... putting the ball in his hands a little bit more and trying to get him off the perimeter," Cheeks said. "I just looked at his numbers in Atlanta and figured out what I could do to get him better shots." Though glaringly obvious to anyone familiar with Smoove's game, it's nice to see the adjustment being made sooner rather than later for Detroit. Assuming the trend continues, his 15.0 points on 40.7 percent shooting should improve in a hurry.

Tue Dec 17 201302:48Josh Smith scores 30 points, Pistons beat IND
Josh Smith continued his impressive play during Monday's 101-96 win over the Pacers, scoring 30 points with seven boards, one assist, two blocks and one 3-pointer in 37 minutes.
It wasn't the most efficient 30-point game with his 13-of-29 shooting, but it was his second consecutive outing with at least 30 points following Sunday's 31-point effort. Smith is starting to climb his way out of a season-long shooting slump and is putting up numbers all across the stat sheet, so fantasy owners likely aren't complaining. He also has the Pistons playing very well as one of the most fun teams to watch in the NBA.

Sun Dec 15 201321:48Josh Smith erupts for 31 pts on 13-of-17 FGs
Josh Smith's offensive game was clicking on Sunday, as he scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-17 FGs and 5-of-6 FTs in Detroit's home loss to Portland.
Smoove also had seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block, with only one turnover in 46 minutes. Predictably, his efficient offensive game was predicated upon a willingness to attack the rim and he finished with 13 of his 17 attempts in the paint. Maybe his aggressiveness will carry over vs. the Pacers' lock-down defense on Monday, but we tend to doubt it.

Fri Dec 13 201320:32Josh Smith has an arm injury, returns
Josh Smith suffered an arm injury in the first half of Friday's game and returned to the game.
His arm was dangling after some contact, so it might have just been an injury to his funny bone. Smith should be fine.
