Sat Dec 7 201322:51Josh Smith not so Smoove, shoots just 2-of-11
Josh Smith had a rough night vs. Chicago, scoring just seven points on 2-of-11 shooting with 10 rebounds, three assists and five turnovers.
The Bulls packed the paint and made life difficult for Smoove, Andre Drummond (eight points) and Greg Monroe (eight points). Offensive droughts are part of the package with Smith, but he usually does just enough across the board that even his duds are tolerable for fantasy purposes.

Sun Dec 1 201318:22Josh Smith scores 20 points in win
Josh Smith handed out five assists to go with 20 points, two boards, three blocks and three 3-pointers on 8-of-14 shooting against the Sixers on Sunday.
It's one of his better shooting games of the season and he made his three treys on just five attempts. Smith is taking just a shade under five attempts per game from beyond the arc and making under 30 percent of those, but 1.4 makes per game is a positive to his value. Despite J-Smoove having his ugly games here and there, he's having a nice season with averages of 14 points, seven boards, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks.

Sat Nov 30 201301:06Josh Smith scores 13, grabs 19 boards
Josh Smith grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds in a 106-102 loss to the Lakers on Friday to go with eight points, eight assists, five steals and two blocks in 44 minutes.
He shot 4-of-16 from the field, missed all four attempts from the line and turned the ball over five times, so it wasn't all good for J-Smoove. He's been very good in the accounting stat, entering tonight with averages of 14.1 points, 6.5 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.5 blocks, 1.7 steals and 1.3 triples, but his 40 percent from the field and 52 percent from the line hurt his overall fantasy value in standard leagues.

Sun Nov 24 201317:50Josh Smith gets 33 minutes in start
Josh Smith got his starting job back on Sunday and had 13 points, eight boards, three assists, three steals and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes.
Smith came off the bench on Friday because of a missed practice and it would appear that coach Mo Cheeks has forgiven him. Taking his ugly season shooting numbers of 40 percent from the field and 61 percent from the line out of the equation, J-Smoove has been solid with averages of 14.7 points, 6.0 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.7 blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.5 triples before today's effort.

Sat Nov 23 201312:27Coach says Josh Smith is the starting SF
After benching Josh Smith for the start of Friday's game, coach Maurice Cheeks said Josh Smith will start in the future for Detroit.
Josh Smith skipped Friday's practice to remain home with his ill father, which resulted in his benching. Smith had easily his worst game of the season, going scoreless in 20 minutes of play. His poor play likely had more to do with his father's illness than any feud with Cheeks and J-Smoove should bounce back Sunday against the struggling Nets.

Sat Nov 23 201300:27Josh Smith put on bench for missing practice
Josh Smith came off the bench on Friday, failing to score in 20 minutes with seven boards, one assist, one steal and three blocks against the Hawks.
He missed a practice that was scheduled late, so coach Mo Cheeks decided to bring Smith off the bench. Al Horford said that Smith's father was ill, so this move to the bench seems to be temporary. The Pistons play the Nets on Sunday and J-Smoove should be back in the starting lineup for that road game.

Fri Nov 22 201319:29Josh Smith to come off bench, Singler starts
Josh Smith will come off the bench in Friday's game against the Hawks and Kyle Singler will start at small forward.
He didn't have a great game against the Hawks on Wednesday with just 11 points on 5-of-15 shooting, so maybe that has something to do with coach Mo Cheeks' reasoning. Smith hasn't really been effective at small forward and is taking way too many 3-pointers and his new role tonight might get more chances to play closer to the basket at power forward. This news doesn't necessarily mean he's going to lose fantasy value. Kyle Singler isn't really worth an add in most formats either.

Thu Nov 21 201300:33Josh Smith taunted in return to Atlanta
Josh Smith returned to Atlanta for the first time since becoming a Piston and hit just 5-of-15 shots, missing all five of his 3-point attempts, and finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks.
Hawks fans were yelling "shoot it" every time Josh touched the ball and he answered the call more often than not. He's chucking a career-high 5.7 3-pointers per game, despite hitting just under 32 percent of them. We're still not sure why Mo Cheeks hasn't put the clamps on Smith's 3-point shooting, but it looks like he still has the green light to shoot as many as he wants to. And that's bad news for his field goal percentage, which currently sits at 43 percent, while he's also hitting just 62 percent of his free throws this season.

Mon Nov 18 201300:36Josh Smith posts another well-rounded line
Josh Smith followed up Friday's near 5x5 line with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block vs. the Lakers on Sunday.
Smith drained 7-of-12 FGs, including 3-of-5 from downtown. That's a sweet-and-sour result for his fantasy owners -- while it's nice to see him filling up the 3-point category, his tendency to bomb away from the perimeter was a primary cause for his unexpected benching on Tuesday, not to mention his career-worst 42.1 percent shooting. Smoove is attempting a ridiculous 5.8 three-pointers per game this season, the 12th most of any player in the NBA, ahead of guys like Kevin Martin, Kyle Korver, J.J. Redick and Kevin Durant.

Sat Nov 16 201304:46Josh Smith misses 5x5 line by one block
Josh Smith got the message from his benching in Wednesday's game and finished with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting, two threes, eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals and four blocks on Friday against the Kings.
Smith missed the 5x5 line by one block and also turned in a semi-respectable 7-of-10 mark from the line. There are going to be some bumps along the way in a somewhat crowded situation in Detroit (Greg Monroe was odd man out tonight with eight points and four rebounds), Smith will settle in as a mid-round value with a bit of upside beyond that, as well.

Wed Nov 13 201309:16Josh Smith brushes aside Tuesday's benching
Mo Cheeks claimed he wasn't sending Josh Smith a message by benching him after 18 minutes on Tuesday, and Smith didn't seem concerned after the game.
"You can't really focus on the decisions that people make, higher than you," said Smith, who finished with two points on 1-of-6 shooting. "You just have to be able to adjust around it ... I'm not a selfish player, so I'm not going to go in there and demand plays be ran for me." While neither party made a big deal out of Smoove's benching this time and he should promptly resume playing big minutes, we doubt this is the last time Cheeks and Smith will clash. At the moment, Smith is taking 39.6 percent of his shots beyond the arc, but he's only making them at a 27.5 percent clip.

Wed Nov 13 201302:46Josh Smith benched in ugly Pistons loss
Josh Smith hit 1-of-6 shots and missed a couple of awkward 3-pointers before being benched by Mo Cheeks after just two points, two rebounds and a steal in 16 minutes of Tuesday's ugly loss to the Warriors.
Smoove is not injured as far as we know, but has been chucking ill-advised 3-pointers at will all season. It's possible that Cheeks was sending him a message to take better shots going forward, but how Smith will handle tonight's benching is anyone's guess. He's having a decent season, but his shot selection is going to be a problem if Cheeks doesn't reel him in soon, and it looks like the first shot was fired by his coach tonight. Look for him to bounce back on Friday against the Kings. Smoove has hit 11-of-40 3-point attempts in his seven games and is shooting 29 percent from beyond the arc. And we're guessing the Hawks are glad he's no longer launching bad shots in the ATL.

Sat Nov 9 201301:32Josh Smith scores 25 points in full line
Josh Smith scored 25 points with eight boards, two assist, one block, one steal and three 3-pointers on 10-of-20 from the field on Friday.
He matched his season average with seven triple attempts tonight and he's never really been the poster child of good shot selection. Smith came into tonight's game with stat-stuffing averages of 17.3 points, 6.8 boards, 2.3 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.8 triples, so he increased most of those with tonight's gem. If you don't champion percentages, J-Smoove is one of the best players to own.

Sat Nov 2 201302:04Smoove posts a Smoove line in overtime loss
Josh Smith scored 19 points on 7-of-23 shooting (3-of-11 from long distance) with eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks in the Pistons' overtime loss to the Grizzlies on Friday.
It's a Smoove line if we've ever seen one but it's good to see him taking his move to Detroit in stride. His value will be held back by his efficiency and it could also take a hit once Brandon Jennings returns. Andre Drummond went for 12 and 16 with three steals and two blocks, and Greg Monroe added 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the loss.

Thu Oct 31 201300:08Josh Smith plays well in Pistons debut
Josh Smith hit 8-of-12 shots and 3-of-7 free throws on his way to 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and one block in Wednesday's win.
His free throw shooting remains a serious concern, but he was very solid tonight and looked like last year's Smoove. But it remains to be seen if he can rebound with Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe alongside him.

Thu Oct 24 201322:52Josh Smith hits game-winning 3-pointer Thurs.
Josh Smith hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Wolves on Thursday, shooting 6-of-17 from the field for 20 points with six boards and two assists in 34 minutes.
He hit three triples, but shot just 5-of-11 from the field. Smith was a little better at his shot selection tonight, yet he still couldn't convert. Considering he will hinder fantasy teams' field goal and free throw percentage, he's arguably the worst player to own in standard leagues. J-Smoove will produce plenty of stats outside of that, though.

Tue Oct 22 201318:08Josh Smith not playing Tuesday night
Josh Smith will not play on Tuesday night against the Wizards.
It's his turn for rest and there's nothing wrong. Well, except that he's looked a little out of place at small forward this preseason. Smith has been working the perimeter more than going inside, so his field goal percentage could be ugly this year. Although, he'll get some time at power forward while Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond are on the bench.

Thu Oct 17 201321:53Josh Smith stuffs the stat sheet on Thursday
Josh Smith filled the stat sheet against the Cavs on Thursday with 12 points, four boards, three assists, four steals, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 32 minutes.
It wasn't all positive stats, shooting 5-of-13 from the field and turning the ball over six times. The Pistons didn't really use J-Smoove in the post, which isn't going to help is already troublesome field goal shooting. If your format doesn't count on percentages much, Smith could be a valuable piece to your team in the late-early rounds of drafts.

Wed Oct 16 201323:12Josh Smith quiet preseason continues
Josh Smith had nine points, four boards, three assists, a steal, a block and a 3-pointer on 4-of-10 shooting in Wednesday's loss to the Bulls.
Smoove has scored between nine and 12 points in each of his three games, averaging a little more than a steal, a block and exactly one 3-pointer per game this preseason. He's also totaled just 10 rebounds to go along with 10 turnovers, and while it's 'just the preseason,' he's certainly not doing much to turn heads in Detroit. That will likely change come opening night, and should mean some good value for Smith in fantasy. But it remains to be seen how his rebounding and scoring will hold up playing alongside guys like Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond and, eventually, Brandon Jennings.

Tue Sep 24 201314:44Josh Smith could have ball in his hands a lot
Josh Smith could have the ball in his hands "early and often," according to Keith Langlois.
There are a lot of new pieces in Detroit and Brandon Jennings isn't the only one that will be handling the ball. Smith matched his career high with 4.2 assists per game last year, but the thought of him handling the ball more could be dangerous, especially since his shot selection is below average. However, the added responsibility on offense will give him a bigger upside with his stellar defensive production.
