The Cavaliers expected Shumpert to require 12-to-14 weeks of recovery time, keeping him unavailable until at least early January. The team is expected to insert J.R. Smith in the starting lineup to replace Shumpert, with both Matthew Dellavedova and Mo Williams now positioned to see larger minutes loads than expected in the backcourt.

Shumpert suffered a wrist injury recently and is expected to remain out 12-to-14 weeks, Fred McLeod of Cavs.com reports.

Shumpert ruptured the Extensor Carpi Ulnaris sheath in his right wrist during a recent workout, and he'll have surgery Wednesday to repair the damage. The loss of Shumpert is obviously a huge blow for Cleveland, which will likely be without Kyrie Irving for at least the first month or two of the season. In his absence, J.R. Smith will likely take over as the starting shooting guard, and Matthew Dellavedova could see a mild minutes boost.

Shumpert signed a four-year, $40 million deal with the Cavaliers on Wednesday, Yahoo! Sports reports.

After joining the Cavaliers in January, Shumpert only started one of 38 regular-season contests but eventually entered the starting five in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Getting the nod 16 times across 20 games in their playoff run, he averaged 9.1 points (on 36 percent shooting), 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 three-pointers, 1.3 steals, 1.2 assists, and 0.8 blocks in 35 minutes. Expect Shumpert to fulfill a similar role is his first full season in Cleveland.

Shumpert received a qualifying offer from the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Sam Amico of FOX Sports reports.

As such, Shumpert will be a restricted free agent this offseason. The Cavaliers will likely match any reasonable offer that's thrown Shumpert's way, as LeBron James is said to be a fan of the former-Knick's defensive abilities.

Shumpert will be extended a qualifying offer from the Cavaliers in the next few days, Bob Finnan of the News-Herald reports.

The move will solidify Shumpert's status as a restricted free agent, enabling the Cavaliers to match any offer he may receive on the open market. Cleveland would likely love to bring back Shumpert, one of the team's best perimeter defenders, but if he signs a lucrative offer sheet, they may be unable to match.

Shumpert played 34.8 minutes in the postseason with the Cavaliers and averaged 9.1 points and 4.9 rebounds. He only started one game with Cleveland in the regular season and played 24.2 minutes with averages of 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds.

Injuries to Kevin Love (shoulder) and Kyrie Irving (knee) made starters out of reserves such as Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova. His 3-point shot is inconsistent, but he had some big games from the perimeter against the Hawks and Bulls in the playoffs. Shumpert should have plenty of open opportunities if he stays with Cleveland in 2015-16 via the team's qualifying offer

Shumpert failed to record a steal after entering Game 4 with an NBA Finals high 10 steals. He's shooting a team-worst 25 percent from the field but isn't likely to lose his starting gig with J.R. Smith shooting 30 percent on an additional 19 attempts in the Finals.

Shumpert appeared to injure his shoulder in the first half of Tuesday's Game 3 after running into a hard Draymond Green screen. Expect Shumpert to see his usual complement of minutes in Game 4 while taking turns defending both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Shumpert took advantage of his limited offensive opportunities. He is mainly on the court for perimeter defense. If Kyrie Irving (knee) misses games, Shumpert may get a few more shot attempts.

Shumpert scored 15 points (5-11 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT) with seven rebounds in the overtime win over Atlanta on Sunday.

Shumpert provides the Cavaliers with just another perimeter threat and has found his missing 3-point shot in the last two games. He has knocked down eight 3-pointers after being limited to just six long range makes in his previous five games. Shumpert's 3-point jags generally don't last very long.
