Wed Dec 14 201120:39Mutual interest between Knicks and B-Diddy
Alan Hahn of Newsday reported Wednesday that there is mutual interest between the Knicks and recently waived Baron Davis.
Davis will need to clear waivers to land in their lap, but he would be an immediate upgrade over Mike Bibby and put a big dent in Toney Douglas' value as long as he is healthy. If Davis lands in New York, it will be interesting to see how quickly his back heals up.

Wed Dec 14 201120:09Cavs waive Baron Davis with amnesty clause
Baron Davis (back) was waived on Wednesday as the Cavs decided to use their one-time amnesty clause.
We had all but ruled out early season production for Davis, but owners may want to keep an early eye on him to see if the injury was transaction related. Davis will be bid upon by teams under the cap and go to the highest bidder. Kyrie Irving is setup to play as many minutes as he can handle.

Wed Dec 14 201114:33Baron Davis (herniated disc) out indefinitely
Baron Davis is out indefinitely due to a herniated disc in his back.
Davis was already a player to avoid in drafts due to his injury history and the presence of Kyrie Irving, but this just makes the red flag even more glaring. We wouldn't rule out Davis having value at some point down the road in Cleveland or elsewhere, but Kyrie Irving is the Cavs PG to own at the outset of the year, with Ramon Sessions expected to back him up.

Tue Dec 13 201109:41Report: Baron Davis may have herniated disc
Baron Davis may have a herniated disc in his back.
If that is the case, there is cause for serious concern regarding Davis' status for the upcoming campaign. The point guard is getting a second opinion on the issue and we should hear before long what the final diagnosis is for the veteran. It's not an ideal way for Davis' season to begin.

Mon Dec 12 201114:30Knicks said to have interest in Baron Davis
The Knicks are said to be interested in PG Baron Davis.
Davis has been sidelined with a back injury and could still be waived, traded or bought out by the Cavs. Don't be surprised to see him in New York at some point this season.

Mon Dec 12 201111:12Baron Davis getting second opinon on back
Baron Davis is getting a second opinion on his ailing back.
Davis has been sidelined for three straight days and it doesn't appear the issue is getting any better. GM Chris Grant said that no matter the diagnosis, it will not weigh into the team's decision as to whether or not to use the amnesty clause on him.

Sun Dec 11 201117:10Baron Davis missess third straight practice
Baron Davis (back) missed his third straight day of Cavs practice on Sunday.
Despite a report that Davis was going to be an amnesty cut by Cleveland, it hasn't happened yet and the Cavs insist there has been no decision made on Davis' future. The window to use the clause expires Friday, and Davis may want to seek a buyout in order to become an unrestricted free agent and choose his next team.

Sat Dec 10 201101:51Baron's back injury not exactly a ruse
The back soreness that kept Baron Davis from Friday's practice was thought to potentially be for business reasons, but coach Byron Scott described Davis' situation as it pertained to a "conditioning run."
"I've seen a whole lot of guys get tightness of the back or an Achilles or hamstrings or calves doing that drill," Scott said. "I'm not concerned about it yet." What Scott didn't say is that he cut the drill in half of its normal length, and it looks like we're looking at out-of-shape Baron to start the year. It's not a surprise, but a slow start is all but certain and his fantasy prospects are dwindling. Davis is an amnesty possibility for the Cavs.

Fri Dec 9 201119:57Baron Davis (back) held from practice
Baron Davis was held from Cavs practice on Friday due to a back injury.
It's interesting because we still don't know whether or not Davis will be amnestied, but if we had to guess we'd say he will be and his absence affirms that. Davis also mentioned today that he'd be willing to backup rookie Kyrie Irving in a role off the bench.

Fri Dec 9 201113:53Team have until Dec. 16 to use amnesty clause
Under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, NBA teams are allowed to amnesty players from Dec. 9-16.
It wasn't clear how long teams would have to use their amnesty clause, but now we know that they can't hold it as an in-season option. Teams can also only use it once during the 6-10 year life of the CBA, which is why most teams are comfortable hanging onto it for another year.

Fri Dec 9 201112:20Cavs still undecided on Baron Davis amnesty
The Cavaliers haven't decided whether to amnesty Baron Davis, and there is no timeline for a decision.
There are a few reasons Cleveland might keep Baron. He could help Kyrie Irving adjust to playing PG in the NBA, he gives the Cavs far greater backcourt depth, and coach Scott feels he can play both Irving and Davis at the same time, particularly since the Cavs are thin at SG. Even if they amnesty him, they'll owe him $28 million.

Thu Dec 8 201116:11Report: Cavs to use amnesty on Baron
The Cavaliers are ready to use the amnesty clause to waive PG Baron Davis, according to Yahoo!.
That will clear the way for Kyrie Irving to take the point guard reins, and also clear minutes for Ramon Sessions. Bump Irving up your draft board and put him down as a candidate for Rookie of the Year.

Fri Dec 2 201100:23Local paper says 60% chance Baron stays put
The Cleveland Plain Dealer said Thursday that there is about a "60 percent" chance that the Cavs will not use amnesty on Baron Davis.
They also predicted that Davis would start alongside No. 1 pick Kyrie Irving, and if this holds true a late-season swoon for Davis appears likely. While Davis would hold the reins while Irving gets up to speed, they will invariably be turned over to the rookie late in the year. Davis will be a risky fantasy pick as an injury and attitude risk, but his early-season production will make him startable.

Sat Nov 26 201112:35New CBA expected to include amnesty clause
The new CBA is expected to include an amnesty clause, which could make players like Baron Davis and Gilbert Arenas free agents this season.
Other likely candidates for the amnesty clause include Brandon Roy, Luke Walton, Travis Outlaw, DeSagana Diop, Renaldo Balkman, Andres Nocioni and Richard Jefferson.

Tue Nov 1 201118:21Amnesty: Baron Davis to New York or L.A.?
Due to a new amnesty clause likely coming in the next collective bargaining agreement, Baron Davis could quickly become an unrestricted free agent and it sounds like he's interested in joining the Lakers, Knicks or even the Bobcats.
The amnesty clause would give teams salary-cap relief as well as tax relief on a player (on a bad contract) released via amnesty, although he'll still be paid by his old team. Details are still shaky as far as an amnesty clause goes, but it does sound like it's coming. Davis is also rumored to be a candidate to join the Super Friends in Miami if he is released via amnesty, but we'll cross that bridge when it actually happens.

Sun Sep 25 201109:51Baron Davis excited to mentor Kyrie Irving
Baron Davis said recently that he is "really looking forward to playing with, and mentoring, Kyrie [Irving]."
"He's so talented, creative, smart, has so much potential and could become a great cornerstone of the Cavaliers' franchise for many years," Baron wrote in an email. Irving will eventually supplant the 32-year-old Davis at PG, but coach Byron Scott has indicated that he might play them simultaneously for stretches next year.

Sun Aug 7 201107:29Cavs to use Baron, Kyrie simultaneously?
Cavaliers coach Byron Scott reportedly intends to use both Kyrie Irving and Baron Davis in some lineups, though that likely won't be the starting backcourt.
Davis is strong enough to battle many SGs, but this backcourt could be tough to sustain effectively for long stretches. There is also the ever-present concern about Baron's health and fitness -- he's a prime suspect to return from the lockout is questionable physical condition.

Sun Jul 31 201110:27NBA players face hurdle to Pro-Am scrimmage
NBA players may have difficulty participating in a game between two pro-am leagues, the Drew League and the Goodman League, scheduled for August 20.
The game's organizers are charging admission and streaming the game through a pay-per-view website, which means it won't be covered under NBA players' "For the Love of the Game" contract clause. A separate insurance policy would be required, which may be prohibitively expensive.

Fri Jun 24 201115:02Cavs won't name their starting PG just yet
Coach Byron Scott declined to answer whether Baron Davis or Kyrie Irving will enter training camp as the starting point guard.
As the veteran, former All-Star and one making $14 million, we expect Davis to start on opening night. However, Davis' injuries and declining play will likely make this a timeshare relatively quickly. Note that Scott did say the thinks Irving and Davis can play together in the backcourt, which means both could hover around 30 minutes. Regardless, fantasy owners won't want to reach for either point guard.

Wed Jun 15 201112:29Report: Cavs shopping Baron, Sessions hard
The Cavs "have been shopping Baron Davis and Ramon Sessions hard" over the last week, according to ESPN's Chad Ford.
With Duke PG Kyrie Irving expected to come into the fold in eight days, the Cavs are trying to clear a path. Finding a taker for Sessions' youth and upside shouldn't be hard, but getting rid of Davis' ugly contract is a long shot. Either way, this confirms that the Cavs may not see Davis as a bridge to Irving -- they may want to throw the likely No. 1 pick into the fire right away.
