Garcia (8-5) couldn't escape the fifth inning Thursday, giving up six earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two in an 11-0 loss to the Reds.
Thursday's outing was a hiccup in an otherwise impressive season for Garcia, as the left-hander gave up more than three earned runs for just the second time in 16 starts. Garcia was unable to retire the heart of Cincinnati's lineup, giving up two hits apiece to Joey Votto, Todd Frazier, and Eugenio Suarez. The Cardinals' southpaw will look to get back on track Wednesday against the Brewers.

Garcia picked up his eighth win of the season Saturday, tossing seven shutout innings and scattering four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high nine.
It's his best start of the year but hardly his first good one, as Garcia now has a 1.89 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season. He'll next take the mound Thursday, on the road against the Reds.

Garcia (7-4) picked up the win Sunday, giving up four runs on 10 hits through 6.1 innings in a 7-5 victory over the Giants.
In an uncharacteristically up-and-down performance, Garcia allowed as many runs Sunday as he has in his previous four starts. Marlon Byrd, in particular, tormented Garcia, hitting a two-out two-RBI double in the first inning and another RBI double in the sixth. Those two doubles, however, accounted for the only two extra-base hits on the ledger for the 29-year-old, who minimized most of the damage with 11 groundball outs. He will take his 2.03 ERA back home when he faces the Pirates on Saturday.

Garcia earned his sixth win with a quality start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, as he allowed one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.
Garcia has been exceptional when healthy this year, as his ERA dropped to 1.77 following his 12th quality start in 13 outings this year. Garcia hasn't given up a home run since July 28 and has given up just four home runs all year, and his 0.4 HR/9 would be a career best. The question as usual is just if he can stay healthy.

Garcia gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk in 6.1 innings Wednesday, striking out five in the no-decision.
In five starts since returning from the DL, Garcia has impressively allowed only seven runs in 32.2 innings, good for a 1.93 ERA. In fact, he still hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start this season. At this point, it seems like the main thing separating Garcia from the upper tiers of starting pitchers is his proclivity for getting hurt year after year.

Garcia (5-4) was excellent on Friday, allowing just one unearned run over 8.1 innings in a 3-1 win over the Marlins. He matched his six hits allowed with six strikeouts.
Garcia lowered his ERA to an amazing 1.57 and he can thank that to his amazing control. In 74.1 innings, he's allowed just 49 hits and 18 walks to accumulate an impressive 0.90 WHIP. His 3.17 FIP and 3.14 xFIP would indicate some regression coming, but it doesn't take away from his amazing season thus far. He'll look to continue this form against the Giants on Wednesday.

Garcia (4-4) tossed seven innings of two-hit ball, blanking the Brewers in Saturday's 3-0 win.
Garcia's been good at limiting opponents' earned runs all season long, and he's cranked it up in his last two outings. He's allowed just one earned run in 12 innings of work in August, and his ERA has plummeted to an impressive 1.77 on the season. He has dominated his last six starts, putting up a gaudy ERA of 1.15, and has struck out 28 batters in the process. Garcia has been absolutely on top of his game.

Garcia allowed just one run but lasted only five innings in Sunday's start against the Rockies, getting no decision. He gave up two hits and four walks, striking out four.
Garcia hasn't gotten much run support this year (19 runs over 9 starts), but it would help if he'd go deeper into games as well.

Garcia fell to 3-4 despite a quality start Tuesday against the Reds, as he allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Garcia looked strong in 80 pitches in his first start off the disabled list (groin). The only blemish was a three-run home run from Joey Votto; otherwise, Garcia looked as sharp as he had been before the injury. He still owns a 2.00 ERA and 37:9 K:BB in 54 innings this season.

Garcia (groin) has officially been activated from the disabled list and will start Tuesday's game.
Garcia will come off the DL on Tuesday, as expected, and he'll get the start Tuesday night against the Reds. In a corresponding move, the Cards optioned right-hander Sam Tuivailala to Triple-A Memphis.
Tue Jul 28 201511:30Jaime Garcia: Activated For Tuesday's Start
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was activated from the disabled list Tuesday and will start against the Cincinnati Reds after recovering from a groin injury.
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was activated from the disabled list Tuesday and will start against the Cincinnati Reds after recovering from a groin injury. Garcia has not pitched for the Cardinals since June 24 but is ready to return after completing a rehab assignment with Low-A Peoria.

Garcia (groin) will likely get the nod Tuesday against the Reds, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Garcia is nearing the end of his second DL stint of the season, which included a rehab start Thursday at Low-A Peoria. In five innings, he no-hit the opposition while striking out six. If he takes the mound Tuesday, he'll push John Lackey back to Wednesday.

Garcia struck out six batters over five no-hit innings in Thursday's rehab outing with Low-A Peoria.
Garcia did hit one batter with a pitch, but he was otherwise flawless in his first rehab start. He'll likely rejoin the rotation to start Wednesday's game against the Reds, although he could be pushed up to Tuesday to give the Cardinals' other starters an extra day of rest.
Tue Jul 21 201517:35Garcia (groin) will make rehab start Thursday with Low-A Peoria
Garcia (groin) will make a rehab start Thursday with Low-A Peoria, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
He progressed to live batting practice late last week, thus clearing the final hurdle necessary to return to live game action. Rather than return him to the major league rotation immediately, the Cardinals will have Garcia make at least one rehab start before (presumably) bumping Tim Cooney back to the minors.

Garcia (groin) is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
Garcia was able to progress to live batting practice this weekend, suggesting he'd soon be ready to test the ailment in live game action. It was originally thought that he'd be able to skip a stint in the minors, but that no longer appears to be the case. If everything goes well, Garcia should be back in the St. Louis rotation the following week.
Fri Jul 17 201521:59Garcia (groin) slated to throw live batting practice Saturday
Garcia (groin) is slated to throw live batting practice Saturday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
If Garcia makes it through the session unscathed, it sounds like he will return to start for the Cardinals late next week, thus bypassing a minor league rehab assignment. The left-hander has posted a 1.69 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in seven starts between stints on the DL due to shoulder and groin issues.
Sun Jul 5 201513:03Jaime Garcia: (Groin) Placed On DL
Garcia (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
Garcia's placement on the DL comes as a bit of a surprise, as earlier in the week it was reported that he would be OK to make his regularly scheduled start Tuesday. Perhaps something went wrong in his side session, as he'll instead be subject to his third change of plans this week. St. Louis has a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, and according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, the team will start Tyler Lyons and Tim Cooney, both of whom will need to be recalled from Triple-A Memphis prior to the game.
Sun Jul 5 201511:03Jaime Garcia: (Groin) Placed On DL
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to tightness in his groin, according to FOX Sports Midwest.
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to tightness in his groin, according to FOX Sports Midwest. Garcia did not make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox, but the Cardinals were hoping he would be ready for an upcoming series against the Chicago Cubs. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Garcia's Saturday bullpen session went well, yet it was not enough to keep the lefty off the disabled list. With Garcia not eligible to return from the DL until Friday, pitchers Tyler Lyons and Tim Cooney will start the two games of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs. Lyons and Cooney may be auditioning to start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, as Garcia is scheduled to pitch that game, and he may not be ready to return when he is first eligible.
Sat Jul 4 201513:07Garcia (groin) remains on track to make scheduled start Tuesday
Garcia (groin) remains on track to make his scheduled start Tuesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Cards manager Mike Matheny said that Garcia's bullpen session Saturday went well, although Garcia refused to offer a comment to reporters about the workout when asked. For now, he remains day-to-day, but the Cards would certainly stand to benefit from having Garcia start one of the games in Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs.
Wed Jul 1 201517:05Garcia (groin) will not be placed on disabled list
Garcia (groin) will not be placed on the disabled list, but won't start Thursday against the Padres, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Garcia missed his previous start due to the groin issue, and it appears it could cost him two in a row. The Cardinals haven't made a corresponding move yet, but Tim Cooney is expected to replace him.
