Mon Apr 23 201223:36Ross homers twice, Boston snaps losing streak
Cody Ross played hero Monday, launching a pair of homers, including one to break a tie in the top of the ninth inning, in a win over the Twins.
Ross was hitless in his first two at-bats but then took Jason Marquis deep with a two-run shot in the seventh and then got to closer Matt Capps with an opposite-field shot in the ninth. He's off to a nice start with the BoSox, batting .283 with a team-leading five homers and 13 RBI.

Fri Mar 30 201216:51Cody Ross homers twice to lead BoSox
Cody Ross hit a pair of two-run homers as the Red Sox topped the Twins 9-7 on Friday.
Ross has homered in three straight games. All six of his homers have come in his last eight games. He'll almost certainly be an everyday player for the Red Sox initially, which figures to give him some value in shallow mixed leagues.

Tue Mar 27 201216:56Cody Ross homers in second straight
Cody Ross homered in a second straight game Tuesday against the Rays.
This time it was a three-run shot off Joel Peralta. Ross is hitting .342 with four homers in 38 at-bats for the spring. He's likely to play regularly at the start of the season, giving him a little value in mixed leagues. Once Carl Crawford returns, then whomever is playing better between Ross and Ryan Sweeney will likely get most of the starts in right field.

Fri Mar 9 201222:46Ross has two hits in loss to Pirates
Cody Ross went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a stolen base in Friday's loss to the Pirates.
Ross, who started in center field, was also caught stealing after reaching on an infield single in the second inning. He figures to play every day if Carl Crawford (wrist) starts the season on the disabled list as expected, but he'll eventually find himself in a platoon with Ryan Sweeney (who is 0-for-8 this spring) in right field. Still, he should be pretty useful in AL-only leagues.

Sat Mar 3 201218:03Cody Ross homers twice, knocks in five runs
Cody Ross homered twice and drove in five runs as a Red Sox split-squad beat Northeastern 25-0 on Saturday.
They scored the 25 runs in six innings. Ross didn't get much of a jump on Ryan Sweeney today, as Sweeney went 4-for-5 with a homer and drove in five runs of his own. The two veterans are battling for time in right field with the Red Sox, with a platoon situation likely. Ross is a right-handed hitter, while Sweeney bats lefty.

Thu Jan 26 201215:10Red Sox finalize deal with OF Cody Ross
Red Sox signed OF Cody Ross to a one-year, $3 million contract.
The deal includes bonuses based on plate appearances. Ross projects to platoon with Ryan Sweeney in right field, but also offers an insurance policy for left field should Carl Crawford suffer any setbacks from wrist surgery. The 31-year-old batted just .240/.325/.405 with 14 home runs and a .730 OPS last season with San Francisco, but has a reputation for knocking around left-handed pitching. He should have some value in AL-only formats.

Mon Jan 23 201221:28Red Sox, Cody Ross agree to 1-year, $3M deal
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, Cody Ross will make a $3 million base salary in his new one-year contract with the Red Sox.
The deal includes bonuses based on plate appearances. Ross originally wanted a three-year contract this offseason, but that was a pretty unrealistic demand in the first place. On the bright side, he'll get to play for a contender and play his home games in a stadium which is a better environment for right-hander power than his former home at AT&T Park. He'll be worth owning in AL-only formats.

Mon Jan 23 201220:51Report: Red Sox sign outfielder Cody Ross
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Red Sox have signed outfielder Cody Ross.
Terms aren't yet available, but Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald hears that it will be a one-year deal. Ross, 31, batted just .240/.325/.405 with 14 home runs and a .730 OPS over 121 games last season for the Giants, but owns a healthy .912 career OPS against southpaws. He's expected to serve in a platoon with the lefty-hitting Ryan Sweeney in right field, but also could be used in left field if Carl Crawford has any setbacks from wrist surgery. It's not known if this deal will have any impact on their ability to add a starting pitcher.

Mon Jan 23 201220:13BoSox have made progress with Cody Ross
According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have made "some progress" with free agent outfielder Cody Ross.
Ross, who has also drawn interest from the Braves and Mets this offseason, is expected to decide on his next destination by the end of the day Monday. The 31-year-old outfielder batted just .240/.325/.405 with 14 home runs in 121 games last season for the Giants, but has a .921 career OPS against left-handed pitching. He would likely play in a platoon role with Boston.

Mon Jan 23 201215:56Cody Ross expected to sign with team Monday
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that free agent outfielder Cody Ross "is expected to pick a team" by the end of the day Monday.
The Mets and Braves have expressed interest in Ross, but the Red Sox seem to be the most active at this point and may be able to offer more money than the competition after freeing up payroll in Saturday's Marco Scutaro trade. Ross, 31, batted .240/.325/.405 with 14 home runs in 121 games last season for the Giants. Wherever he lands, it will likely be part of a platoon.

Mon Jan 23 201215:22Red Sox have 'open dialogue' with Cody Ross
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Red Sox have an "ongoing dialogue" with free agent Cody Ross.
The Mets were linked to Ross this weekend and the Braves had interest earlier this month, but neither team has been overly aggressive. The 31-year-old outfielder batted .240/.325/.405 with 14 home runs in 121 games last season for the Giants. He carries a .912 career OPS against left-handed pitchers, and would fit nicely into a platoon on most major league teams.

Sun Jan 22 201216:56Mets interest in Ross "not strong" right now
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News gets "a sense" that the Mets' interest in outfielder Cody Ross "is not very strong right now."
"Certainly nothing imminent," writes Martino. New York appears to be Ross' most serious suitor at the moment, but it's likely that the Mets are waiting for his asking price to drop even lower. Ross was looking for a three-year contract when this offseason began, but he has since lowered those demands significantly. Perhaps the Mets could snag him on a one-year deal with performance incentives. The 31-year-old batted just .240/.325/.405 last season for the Giants, but he slugged 14 home runs in 121 games and holds a shiny .912 career OPS against left-handed pitchers. Sounds like a nice platoon option for the Mets.

Sat Jan 21 201217:20Mets 'making a run' at free agent Cody Ross
The Mets are "making a run at signing" outfielder Cody Ross, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.
Ross was looking for a three-year contract when this offseason began, but he has since lowered those demands significantly and could come rather cheap when all is said and done. The 31-year-old batted just .240/.325/.405 last season for the Giants, but he slugged 14 home runs in 121 games and holds a shiny .912 career OPS against left-handed pitchers. He'd make for a decent platoon player in New York.

Mon Jan 2 201221:27Braves have some interest in Cody Ross
According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves "have at least some interest" in free agent outfielder Cody Ross.
O'Brien hears Ross wants something in the range of a two-year, $10 million deal, but the Braves are hoping his price will come down. The 31-year-old has also been linked to the Athletics, Rockies and Reds in recent weeks. Ross batted just .240/.325/.405 with 14 homers and a .730 OPS in 121 games this past season for the Giants, but has a .912 career OPS against southpaws.

Sun Jan 1 201213:02Report: A's in discussions with Cody Ross
Jeff Fletcher of BayBridgeBaseball.com reports that the Athletics have had preliminary discussions with the representatives for free agent outfielder Cody Ross.
It makes sense, as Ross is one of the better outfielders left on the market and the A's have zero depth at the position. Ross reportedly was looking for a three-year deal earlier this offseason, but we would be surprised if Oakland was willing to give him more than one year. If general manager Billy Beane does bring Ross in, he would likely be a candidate to be traded by midseason.

Wed Dec 28 201113:03Report: Rockies not pursuing OF Cody Ross
Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post was told by a Rockies' source that there is "absolutely no truth" to the rumors that the club is in contract talks with Cody Ross.
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reported earlier this week that the two sides were in talks, but the source told Saunders that while they like Ross, they have "no fit" in their outfield right now. Things could change if the Rockies deal Seth Smith and Ross is suddenly willing to accept a one-year deal, but with Carlos Gonzalez, Dexter Fowler and Michael Cuddyer projected to start in the club's outfield next season, he could probably find more playing time elsewhere.

Mon Dec 26 201109:57Rockies 'in contract talks' with OF Cody Ross
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Rockies are "in contract talks" with free agent Cody Ross.
Colorado can't offer Ross guaranteed everyday playing time, however, so he may be reviewing his other options. The 31-year-old outfielder batted just .240/.325/.405 in 121 games this past season for the Giants. He has also been drawing interest from the Reds, and is said to be seeking a two-year deal.

Tue Dec 20 201109:29Ross lowers asking price: wants 2-year deal
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien, Cody Ross is now seeking a two-year deal.
Ross opened the winter demanding a three-year contract, but he hasn't come close to finding it. The 31-year-old outfielder batted just .240/.325/.405 in 121 games this past season for the Giants. He's drawn interest from the Reds and the Cardinals. And the Giants might try to re-sign him if his demands dip even lower.

Sun Dec 18 201109:35Reds interested in Cody Ross
Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM reports that the Reds are interested in free agent outfielder Cody Ross.
Ross is reportedly looking for a three-year deal, but it wouldn't be surprising if he only gets one year after he batted just .240/.325/.405 in 121 games this past season for the Giants. He would likely start in left field, but we're not sure he's a better option than Chris Heisey. The Cardinals are also showing interest in the 31-year-old. Jason Kubel is also on the Reds' radar.

Mon Dec 5 201117:50Ross won't re-sign with Giants for 1 year
Andrew Baggarly of San Jose Mercury News reports that Cody Ross is not interested in returning to the Giants on a one-year deal.
Ross is reportedly shooting for a three-year deal, but that has pretty much no chance of happening. If Ross has to wind up settling for a one-year deal, which seems likely, he prefers to go to a more hitter-friendly environment.
