Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said late Wednesday night that Allen Craig will head back to St. Louis to "get a closer look" at his sprained left foot.

Craig suffered the sprain while running the bases in the third inning Wednesday and will not be around for Thursday's series finale in Cincinnati. Matt Adams is likely to start at first base. Craig is questionable for Friday's series opener at home against the Pirates.

"Wrench" has a disappointing five longballs so far, but he's made up for it with a .313 average and 47 RBI.

Craig has pulled his batting average up from .263 to .302 over the past 10 games. The power hasn't been there so far, as he has only two homers in 33 games, but we still see him as a top-12 first baseman in mixed fantasy leagues.

Craig got off to a sluggish start this year but is heating up quickly. He had a .588 OPS on April 21 and it's now .758. The 28-year-old first baseman is a good buy-low candidate in fantasy leagues.
