Sun Aug 3 2014 | 07:53 | Webster lasted just 2.2 innings in Saturday's loss to Yankees |
Webster lasted just 2.2 innings in Saturday's loss to the Yankees. He allowed four runs on two hits and six walks while striking out one. |
In two starts for Boston in 2014, Webster has walked 11 batters in eight innings. Between his two starts this year and eight appearances (seven starts) in 2013, Webster has walked 29 batters in 38.1 innings and owns an 8.22 ERA. The final two months of this season will help shape Boston's rotation in 2015 and it doesn't look like Webster belongs. |
Mon Jul 28 2014 | 19:57 | Allen Webster to get another start |
Allen Webster will get another start on Saturday versus the Yankees. |
Webster earned another turn after holding the Rays to two runs over 5 1/3 frames on Sunday. "Everything points to Allen making that start. There's no plans right now to make any changes in our rotation," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. Webster will need to pitch well to retain his spot in the rotation, as Brandon Workman looms. |

Sun Jul 27 2014 | 17:18 | Webster earns first victory in win over Rays |
Allen Webster walked five and allowed three hits but held the Rays to two runs over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win in his season debut Sunday. |
Webster was recalled in the wake of the Jake Peavy trade, and he delivered in his first start of 2014. The right-hander wasn't dominant, but the only damage came on a two-run double by Desmond Jennings in the third inning. Webster likely earned another start with the good outing, and that should come next weekend against the Yankees. |

Sun Jul 27 2014 | 08:36 | Allen Webster recalled from Triple-A |
Red Sox recalled RHP Allen Webster from Triple-A Pawtucket. |
He'll start Sunday versus the Rays following the trade of Jake Peavy. The Red Sox likely would have gone with Brandon Workman but he just pitched for the PawSox on Thursday. Webster will have to pitch well to stick around. |

Sat Jul 26 2014 | 17:15 | Allen Webster will start for the Red Sox Sun. |
Allen Webster start for the Red Sox on Sunday versus the Rays. |
Webster has a 3.10 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP this season for Triple-A Pawtucket. He's taking the rotation spot left vacant by the Jake Peavy trade but will probably have to pitch well against Tampa Bay to hold the job. |

Sat May 31 2014 | 08:55 | Red Sox RHP prospect Webster fans 7 over 8 IP |
Red Sox prospect right-handed pitcher Allen Webster struck out seven batters over eight one-run innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. |
Webster allowed three hits, including a double and a home run, but only walked one batter in bouncing back from his worst outing. Webster lacks the upside of many of Boston's other pitching prospects, but he is a solid back of the rotation option who could provide immediate value. He was not called up to take Clay Buchholz's start in the rotation, but he should make his return Boston this summer. |

Thu May 29 2014 | 16:37 | Red Sox to decide on Saturday starter soon |
Red Sox manager John Farrell will announce a starter for Saturday's game against the Rays after Thursday's game. |
They'll be filling the spot of Clay Buchholz, who was placed on the disabled list earlier this week due to a hyperextended left knee (and likely a case of stink-itis). Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa, and Anthony Ranaudo are the candidates for the assignment. |

Sat May 10 2014 | 12:10 | Red Sox RHP prospect Webster with 5 shutout |
Red Sox right-handed pitching prospect Allen Webster threw five shutout innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, scattering six singles and one walk while striking out three batters. |
Webster's K/9 rate has taken a nose dive in 2014 to just 5.3, down from 8.9 in 2012 and 9.9 in 2013, but he has been very successful in preventing runs and could see time in Boston this summer if the Red Sox need a spot start. Acquired in the Crawford/Beckett/Gonzalez trade, Webster is little more than a back-of-the-rotation option, but he could be a decent #5 pitcher if given the opportunity. |

Wed Apr 9 2014 | 12:47 | Webster rebounds in second start |
Red Sox prospect RHP Allen Webster was at his best on Tuesday, allowing just three hits over six scoreless frames for Triple-A Pawtucket. |
Webster, 24, had a shaky spring and failed to earn a spot on Boston's Opening Day roster, despite spending parts of the 2013 season in the major leagues. The right-hander struggled in his season debut last week, allowing three runs on seven hits while failing to complete four innings, but looked much sharper on Tuesday, as he struck out three batters against two walks in the winning effort. |

Red Sox optioned RHP Allen Webster and C Christian Vazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket; reassigned SS Deven Marrero to minor league camp. |
The Sox have plenty of rotation depth, so Webster will continue to hone his craft at Triple-A. He held a 5.25 ERA in 12 Grapefruit League innings. |

Thu Mar 6 2014 | 17:09 | Allen Webster goes three scoreless in tie |
Allen Webster retired nine of the 10 hitters he faced Thursday in a game against the Marlins that was called due to rain. |
The game was scoreless in the eighth when play was halted. Webster's impressive showing was the best news for the Red Sox, particularly after he struggled his first time out. The Red Sox want to see more power sinkers and grounders from him this year. Today, seven of his nine outs came on the ground, with one more coming via a K. The only hit he surrendered was a Giancarlo Stanton single. |

Sat Mar 1 2014 | 16:17 | Allen Webster gives up three runs to Twins |
Allen Webster surrendered three runs and four hits in 1 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Twins. |
Webster was pretty disappointing in his time in the majors last year, and he could use a strong spring to keep his place on the rotation depth chart. There's nothing he can do to make the Red Sox out of spring training, but if he disappoints, he could be passed by Anthony Ranaudo and/or Rubby De La Rosa in the pecking order. |

Red Sox recalled RHP Allen Webster from Triple-A Pawtucket. |
Webster will be used in a relief role down the stretch, though it's possible he could get a start after the Red Sox clinch. He's put up a 9.57 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in six starts for the big club this season. |

Thu Sep 5 2013 | 17:27 | Farrell: Webster to return to SP'ing in 2014 |
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Allen Webster was moved to the bullpen only for this season, not beyond. |
Farrell also said Webster "could very well" return the Red Sox this season. Webster went 1-2 with a 9.57 ERA in six starts earlier this season, but he's a power arm that could be a short-spurt weapon employing a shrunken arsenal. |

Mon Jul 22 2013 | 14:34 | Webster struggling at Triple-A |
Allen Webster was shelled for seven earned runs on three hits and five walks on Sunday against Triple-A Durham. |
The outing was the 23-year-old's shortest of the season, as he lasted only 1 1/3 innings before heading for the showers. After another underwhelming showing in the major leagues during parts of June and July, Webster has struggled mightily since rejoining the Triple-A Pawtucket starting rotation. Over his last two outings, the right-hander has allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and six walks in six innings. And a result, he's seemingly been jumped in the organizational pecking order by Brandon Workman. |

Red Sox optioned RHP Allen Webster to Triple-A Pawtucket. |
Webster gets the boot after being knocked around again in his start on Tuesday. It's possible he'll be back the first time the club needs a fifth starter after the break, but Clay Buchholz will be ready soon. |

Wed Jul 10 2013 | 02:17 | Allen Webster gives up seven runs to Mariners |
Allen Webster lasted just 2 1/3 innings and surrendered seven runs to the Mariners on Tuesday. |
Webster was let down by his defense in the first, but he had only himself to blame for the rest of the night. He gave up two homers, both to Kendrys Morales, and he walked a couple of batters. Since it seems that Alfredo Aceves is hurt, the Red Sox may have little choice but to keep Webster in the rotation for a while longer. He hasn't earned it, though. |

Thu Jul 4 2013 | 17:26 | Allen Webster records first major league win |
Allen Webster notched his first major league victory after allowing two runs in six innings Thursday against the Padres. |
It's Webster's second quality start in five tries as a major leaguer. He wasn't all that sharp today -- he walked four and hit a batter -- but the Padres offense just isn't all that dangerous with Chase Headley slumping, Kyle Blanks absent and Yonder Alonso, Jedd Gyorko and Cameron Maybin all sidelined. Webster is probably going to face the Mariners and A's on the road next week, making him a sneaky play in AL-only leagues. However, he could then lose his rotation spot to Clay Buchholz after the All-Star break. |

Fri Jun 28 2013 | 23:09 | Webster handed no-decision vs. Blue Jays |
Allen Webster allowed four runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday. |
He struck out three and walked two. Webster held the Blue Jays scoreless over the first four innings, but gave up three in the fifth and one more in the sixth. He left in position for the victory, but Andrew Bailey coughed up the lead in the seventh. The young right-hander lines up for a start against the Padres at home next week, but he's not an option outside of AL-only fantasy leagues right now. |

Tue Jun 25 2013 | 16:32 | Webster to start Friday night vs. Blue Jays |
Allen Webster will start Friday against the Blue Jays. |
Webster was originally slated to pitch on Saturday, but the Red Sox are moving things around a bit. The 23-year-old has an 11.25 ERA in 12 innings this season and should obviously be ignored in all fantasy formats. |
