Mon Aug 16 202113:21Jesse Winker Placed On IL
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jesse Winker (intercostal strain) on the 10-day injured list on Monday and recalled infielder Jose Barrero in a corresponding move. Winker had been attempting to play through some back tightness but he wound up making the issue worse on a swing during Sunday's game. Losing Winker deals a blow to the Reds, who are trying to fight their way into the playoffs via a Wild Card berth. Winker has been a key part of a fearsome Cincy lineup this season, hitting .307 with 24 homers, 77 runs, 71 RBI, and a steal over 109 games. Look for Shogo Akiyama and Aristides Aquino to see more playing time while Winker is sidelined.

Sun Aug 15 202118:43Jesse Winker Reaggravates Intercostal Strain
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker (side) exited Sunday's game after reaggravating his intercostal strain, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Winker had been replaced on defense in the bottom of the third inning of Sunday's contest, as according to manager David Bell, Winker felt something "right at the end of the last swing he took," and now he'll undergo examinations again on Monday. Winker had been scratched from Friday's lineup with what was originally reported as back tightness, but now it appears it was this issue with his intercostal. Managers should consider him day-to-day for now, and check for updates on his condition on Monday.

Sun Aug 15 202115:40Jesse Winker Exits Early Sunday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker left Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He was replaced by Aristides Aquino in the field to begin the bottom of the third inning. Before his departure, Winker was 0-for-2 in two plate appearances. The reason for his exit is unknown at this time. Winker has had an excellent year at the plate, slashing .307/.395/.560 with 24 HRs, 71 RBI, and 77 runs in the middle of the Reds lineup. Hopefully, there is no serious injury, as he's been one of the best fantasy outfielders this season. More to come.

Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

Wed Jul 14 202113:30Reds heat up, chipping away at Brewers' lead in NL Central
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati start the second half of the season the same way they ended the first — with Nick Castellanos and the Reds hoping to pick up where they left off. After Castellanos and the resurgent Reds won three out of four in Milwaukee last weekend to pull within four games of the NL Central-leading Brewers, the schedule matches them up again for a three-game set in Cincinnati right after the All-Star break. In the last two games the Reds scored go-ahead runs in the ninth inning off All-Star closer Josh Hader. Cincinnati’s spare-parts bullpen has struggled for much of the season but suddenly looked unbeatable. The Reds are sizzling in July, winning nine of 11 since dropping a rain-shortened game to the Padres on June 30. Cincinnati won the series finale with San Diego on July 1, swept the Cubs and took two out of three from Kansas City before besting the Brewers. Eugenio Suarez, hitting just .175, homered to lead off the Reds ninth Saturday night... [More]
Tue Jul 13 202123:20The Latest: Ohtani gets win in two-way All-Star first
DENVER (AP) — The Latest on the All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Coors Field (all times local): 9:20 p.m. Shohei Ohtani unleashed his 100 mph heat while pitching a perfect inning for the win in becoming baseball’s first two-way All-Star, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. rocked Coors Field with a 468-foot home run and the American League breezed 5-2 for its eighth straight victory. Ohtani was 0 for 2 at the plate, grounding out twice as the AL's leadoff man and designated hitter. The Angels phenom pitched a 1-2-3 first inning on 14 pitches a night after competing in the Home Run Derby. Mike Zunino of the Rays also connected for the AL, which has won 20 of the last 23 All-Star Games, not including a tie in 2002. Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto homered for the National League, which had just seven hits at mile-high Coors. Jared Walsh, Ohtani’s teammate on Los Angeles, got a save — with his glove. He made a sliding catch in left field on Kris Bryant’s tricky liner with the bases loaded to end the eighth... [More]
