Thu Jun 2012:06Corbin Carroll Resting Against A SouthpawCorbin CarrollLFDiamondbacksFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Washington Nationals with left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound. Carroll hasn't performed like the reigning National League Rookie of the Year in 2024, hitting just .218/.309/.324 with two homers, 23 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 43 runs scored in 275 at-bats. It's been disappointing for his fantasy managers, but the good news is that the 23-year-old has begun to turn things around in the month of June, going 18-for-62 (.290) with five doubles, two triples, five RBI, 10 walks, four stolen bases and 17 runs scored in 17 games played. Jake McCarthy is playing center field and batting sixth against Gore on Thursday. McCarthy also hits lefty, but he's actually 12-for-30 (.400) in his limited action against southpaws this year.

Thu Jun 2012:02CJ Abrams Out For Series FinaleCJ AbramsSSNationalsFree Agent
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams (wrist) is sitting out of the series finale on Thursday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Ildemaro Vargas will take over at shortstop and will hit seventh against D-backs right-hander Ryne Nelson. Abrams was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against Arizona and was sent for an MRI exam on his left wrist. We still don't have the results of his exam, but the 23-year-old rising star will be held out of the lineup on Thursday as a precaution. Depending on the results of the MRI, Abrams could be sidelined into the weekend series in Colorado against the Rockies or even land on the 10-day injured list. Fantasy managers need to prepare for the worst and have a replacement ready. Vargas has looked good as a super utility man, going 37-for-128 (.289), but he has yet to homer and has 16 career long balls in eight big-league seasons.

Thu Jun 2011:51Addison Barger Hitting .423 Since RecallAddison BargerSS/RFBlue JaysFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays utility man Addison Barger went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox, including a double which was his first extra-base hit of his MLB career. The 24-year-old has now hit safely in all four games since his recall, going 6-for-14 (.423) with two RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base. The former sixth-round draft pick has yet to hit his first MLB home run but had 66 of them in 1581 minor league at-bats, so managers looking for some power upside could add the youngster in nearly all Yahoo leagues. The left-handed hitter is also eligible at 3B, SS, and OF, so managers have some flexibility in how he is deployed.

Thu Jun 2011:37Spencer Horwitz Collects Two More Hits On WednesdaySpencer Horwitz1B/DHBlue JaysFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Spencer Horwitz went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. Horwitz has now hit safely in eight of the nine games he's started since being called up, going 12-for-34 (.353) with four multi-hit games. The 26-year-old is showing a patient eye at the plate as well, coaxing six walks already (plus one intentional pass) and striking out just five times. He certainly looks like an offensive upgrade over what the Jays had been putting out there before his recall, and he's eligible at both 2B and 1B on Yahoo. The left-handed hitter is available in 95% of Yahoo league for managers in need of his services.

Thu Jun 2011:01Randy Arozarena Scores Game-Winner In 10th InningRandy ArozarenaLFRaysFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena went 2-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, and was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Twins. The HBP came in the top of the tenth inning, Arozarena then stole second, and came around to score what would eventually be the game-winning run on a Royce Lewis throwing error. The 29-year-old has had a disappointing season to this point, currently slashing .185/.299/.345, but is showing signs of turning things around, recording a .298-2-6-8-2 line in June with two separate five-game hit streaks, more walks than strikeouts (9:8), and even collecting a painful five HBPs in 16 games. The veteran may also be in line for some positive regression as he sports a low .217 BABIP compared to a career BABIP of .317.

Thu Jun 2010:35Cedric Mullins Comes Up Big In Extra-Inning WinCedric MullinsCFOriolesFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Yankees. Mullins played an integral role in the victory, singling home a run in the top of the tenth inning and then scoring on a throwing error when attempting to steal third base. Mullins has seen his batting average and on-base percentage drop precipitously over the last few seasons, bottoming out in 2024 with a current average of .193. On the bright side, the 29-year-old is hitting .323 (10-for-31) since June 9, with two doubles, a triple, seven runs scored, three stolen bases, and a 2:2 BB:K, so perhaps he's starting to turn things around.

Thu Jun 2010:29Enmanuel Valdez Homers, Scores Three Times In WinEnmanuel Valdez2BRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox second baseman Enmanuel Valdez went 2-for-3 in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays, recording his sixth home run of the season, which was a solo shot off Jays starter Kevin Gausman. The 25-year-old also walked once and scored three times. The left-handed hitter has a .215 average on the season, but is batting .341 (15-for-44) in June with six doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, a 7:5 BB:K, and one stolen base in 16 games. Although he's having a nice month, Valdez is hard to trust for season-long fantasy, as he rarely gets at-bats versus left-handed pitching and he's likely due for some regression.

Thu Jun 2010:22Jose Tena Blasts Two Homers For Triple-A ColumbusJosé Tena2B/SSGuardiansFree Agent
Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Jose Tena found his power stroke with two homers on Wednesday for Triple-A Columbus, giving him six bombs in his last six games. The Guardians' No. 22 prospect is hitting .300 for Columbus with 14 homers and 52 RBI to go with an .851 OPS. The power surge is a bit unexpected, as Tena is known more for his glove at the shortstop position. He hit eight homers across two levels of the minors in 2023. However, the 23-year-old has been good offensively all season at Triple-A. Tena made a late-season cameo with the Guardians last year and could find his way back to Cleveland by the end of this season if he keeps up his hot hitting.

Thu Jun 2010:09Cole Ragans Strikes Out Seven, Takes Loss In Quality StartCole RagansSPRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Cole Ragans went six innings in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Athletics, allowing two earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven. It was Ragans' fourth straight quality start and seventh consecutive start in which he allowed three earned runs or fewer. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, the good pitching hasn't translated to wins, as the southpaw hasn't recorded a victory since May 22. Still, the 26-year-old has a strong 3.13 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and the third-most strikeouts in all of baseball with 109 over 92 innings pitched. Ragans will get a favorable matchup in his next start, which lines up with the Miami Marlins at home next Monday.

Thu Jun 2007:32Trevor Megill Picks Up Save WednesdayTrevor MegillRPBrewersFree Agent
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Trevor Megill threw a scoreless ninth inning to save a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Megill did not allow a baserunner while striking out one to earn his 15th save of the season. The 30-year-old has been a reliable closer for the Brewers this season, posting a 0-1 record, 2.01 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts over 22 1/3 innings with just one blown save. Megill should continue to be an excellent source for saves and strikeouts in all fantasy formats moving forward.

Thu Jun 2007:29Isaac Paredes Homers In Win Over TwinsIsaac Paredes3BRaysFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes played a pivotal role in his team's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings on Wednesday. Paredes went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk to help propel the Rays to victory. His homer off Minnesota starter Joe Ryan in the third inning tied the game at 1-1. The blast traveled 359 feet and had an exit velocity of 95.5 MPH. Paredes is putting together a solid season for the Rays, hitting .286 with 11 homers, 29 runs, and 39 RBI across 255 at-bats, making him a solid fantasy asset in deeper mixed leagues.

Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis continued his hot hitting in a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Lewis went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the losing effort. The fifth-inning blast gave the Twins a 2-1 lead and traveled 410 feet with an exit velocity of 108.7 MPH. Lewis has just 50 at-bats in 2024 but he has already racked up eight homers, 13 runs, and 12 RBI to go along with a .380 batting average. The 25-year-old is a must-start in all fantasy formats moving forward.

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia had a big night in a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Toglia went 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs, and three RBI to help power his team to the win over their division rivals. The 25-year-old kicked off the scoring for the Rockies, blasting a three-run homer in the first inning off starter Bobby Miller. The homer traveled 427 feet and had an exit velocity of 104 MPH. Toglia is now hitting .191 with six homers, 14 runs, 20 RBI, and one stolen base across 94 at-bats in 2024.

Thu Jun 2006:44Freddy Peralta Strikes Out Eight In WinFreddy PeraltaSPBrewersFree Agent
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta was dominant in a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Peralta tossed six innings of shutout ball, striking out eight while allowing just three hits and walking two. The 28-year-old racked up 18 swinging strikes in the game on the way to improving his record to 5-4 on the year. An elite source of strikeouts in fantasy, Peralta will take a 4.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 106 strikeouts over 82 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come Monday against the Texas Rangers.

Thu Jun 2006:38Leody Taveras Homers WednesdayLeody TaverasCFRangersFree Agent
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras provided the game-winning hit in a 5-3 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday. Taveras pinch-hit for Robbie Grossman in the seventh inning and wound up launching a two-run homer to break a 3-3 tie. The blast off New York reliever Drew Smith traveled 405 feet and had an exit velocity of 107.8 MPH. Taveras has struggled in 2024, hitting just .213 with five homers, 28 runs, 15 RBI, and six steals across 235 at-bats. Fantasy gamers holding out hope for Taveras might feel some optimism after Wednesday's performance, but it is worth noting the 25-year-old is hitting just .085 over his past 15 games.

Thu Jun 2006:30Hunter Brown Picks Up Win In Quality Start WednesdayHunter BrownSPAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros right-hander Hunter Brown was excellent in a 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Brown allowed just one run on seven hits over six innings while striking out six and walking none. The only damage off Brown came via a Andrew Benintendi solo homer in the fourth inning. Brown improved his record to 4-5 with the win, to go along with a 4.72 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts over 74 1/3 innings of work. The 25-year-old is best used as a matchup play against weaker offenses moving forward.

Thu Jun 2006:21Brayan Bello Picks Up Win, Strikes Out Six On WednesdayBrayan BelloSPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello turned in a quality start in his team's 7-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Bello allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out six and walking two. He earned the win in the contest, upping his record to 7-4 in 2024, to go along with a 4.83 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 62 strikeouts across 69 innings of work. Bello got off to a hot start in 2024, posting a 2.91 ERA in April, but he has struggled since with a 5.66 ERA in May and a 6.23 ERA thus far in June. Hopefully Wednesday's performance against Toronto will get him back on track. Fantasy gamers should still be rostering Bello but he has emerged as more of a matchup play moving forward.

Wed Jun 1912:06Jazz Chisholm Jr. Scratched With Hamstring TightnessJazz Chisholm Jr.CFMarlinsFree Agent
Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (hamstring) was scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals with right-hamstring tightness for precautionary reasons. Chisholm will be available off the bench and should be considered day-to-day. Vidal Brujan will get the start in center field and will bat seventh, while Otto Lopez draws into the lineup at second base and will hit in the eight-hole against Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson. The Marlins have a scheduled day off on Thursday, so there's a good chance Chisholm will be back in there for Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners. The 26-year-old remains a must-start in most fantasy leagues when he's active, as he's currently hitting .266/.333/.446 on the year with 10 homers, 36 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 271 at-bats. He's also in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 11-for-23 (.478) with a homer, a triple, five RBI, three walks and a steal.

Wed Jun 1912:02TJ Friedl Still Out WednesdayTJ FriedlCFRedsFree Agent
Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup for the series finale on Wednesday against the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates. Friedl was forced from the series opener on Monday due to a tight hamstring and will now miss his second straight game. The 28-year-old doesn't think it's a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day for now. But if Friedl isn't ready to go on Friday for the start of a series against the visiting Boston Red Sox after an off day on Thursday, he could quickly become a candidate to land on the injured list yet again. Stuart Fairchild is making another start in center field and will bat seventh against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller on Wednesday. Friedl hits right-handers really well, but injuries have been the story of his season so far in 2024, and he's gone just 18-for-84 (.214) with four homers and six stolen bases.

Wed Jun 1909:57Jonatan Clase Producing Since Return To Triple-AJonatan ClaseCFMarinersFree Agent
Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Jonatan Clase was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma on June 3 and has been productive upon his return to the Rainiers. Clase is hitting .300 with Tacoma in June with a home run, five RBI, and six stolen bases. The No. 10 prospect for the Mariners started the season at Triple-A and got a taste of the big leagues, hitting .176 in 34 at-bats with three RBI and two stolen bases. The 22-year-old boasts top-end speed (70-grade) and translated that to 79 steals across two levels of the minors in 2023. Those wheels will play at any level, but Clase's next step is proving he can consistently get on base. If he improves in that regard, he could be an impact player in fantasy leagues of all sizes upon his return to Seattle.
