Wed Aug 22 2012 | 01:11 | Javier Lopez notches another save |
For the second straight night, Javier Lopez faced one batter and got a save Tuesday against the Dodgers. |
It was Andre Ethier both nights. The difference tonight was that he got two outs: Ethier hit into a double play to end a 4-1 game. Lopez's saves have both been real cheapies, but he might be good for a couple of more in his lefty specialist role. |

Tue Aug 21 2012 | 01:06 | Javier Lopez picks up save for Giants |
After Sergio Romo gave up a Hanley Ramirez homer, Javier Lopez recorded one out for his second save Monday against the Dodgers. |
Romo got the first two outs of the ninth, but he was replaced by Lopez after the Ramirez homer, and Lopez got Andre Ethier to ground out to end the game. It was his seventh career save and first since June 1. He's likely still behind Jeremy Affeldt and Romo in the pecking order. |

Javier Lopez and the Giants have agreed to an $8.5 million, two-year contract, according to the Associated Press. |
The 34-year-old was set to hit free agency before San Francisco locked him up. He'll earn $4.25 million in each of the next two seasons after earning $2.375 million in 2011. Lopez is 7-2 with a 2.38 ERA in 97 appearances since being acquired from Pittsburgh in 2010. The Giants must decide by Monday whether to exercise the $5 million contract option on fellow left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt, who had a 2.63 ERA in 67 appearances this season. Affeldt, who sustained a season-ending hand injury in September, has a $500,000 buyout. |

Thu May 12 2011 | 18:42 | Javier Lopez notches first save in five years |
With Brian Wilson in needed of the day off, Javier Lopez pitched a scoreless ninth Thursday and picked up his first save since 2006. |
Sergio Romo started the ninth, but he was pulled following Ryan Roberts leadoff single. It was the prudent move, as the Diamondbacks were set to send up the lefty-swinging Miguel Montero, a pinch-hitter in the pitcher's spot and then two more lefties in Kelly Johnson and Gerardo Parra. Lopez retired the three lefties, allowing a single to Chris Young in the middle, to protect a one-run lead for his fifth career save. |

Javier Lopez requested $2.875 million and was offered $2 million from the Giants when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. |
Lopez was a stud down the stretch for the Giants in 2010, posting a 1.42 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 16/2 K/BB ratio over 19 innings while making $775,000 for the year. The two sides should be able to find common ground. |
