Mon Nov 18 201318:50Cutler's ankle has serious ligament damage
Speaking for the first time since Week 10, Jay Cutler implied his ankle injury is worse than has been reported and there are "worrisome ligament issues."
"The ankle is the problem. The groin is going to be fine," Cutler said. "If I just had a normal high-ankle sprain, I wouldn't be in a cast. I'm searching for any doctor in the country that will say, 'Hey, you can play on this,' but we haven't found him yet. There's a couple ligaments that we're a little bit worried about that's different than a normal high-ankle sprain." Cutler initially targeted a Week 13 return against the Vikings, "but now I really don't know." All the Bears have said is that Cutler is "week-to-week." It sounds like Josh McCown could be in the saddle for at least a couple more starts.

Mon Nov 18 201315:12Trestman: Jay Cutler remains Bears starter
Coach Marc Trestman confirmed Jay Cutler (ankle, groin) remains the Bears' starter when healthy.
We're not sure why this is such a big story because it's not even close between Cutler and Josh McCown. McCown deserves credit for playing well as a backup. But he is a backup. "Jay is the quarterback of our football team and Josh is our backup quarterback," Trestman announced Monday. "The three of us all know that. That hasn't changed." Cutler has been ruled out for Week 12.

Mon Nov 18 201314:41Bears rule out Cutler for Week 12 Rams game
Jay Cutler (ankle, groin) has been ruled out for Week 12.
Coach Marc Trestman continues to characterize Cutler as "week to week." Josh McCown will make his third start of the season in Week 12 against St. Louis, where he'll be a high-end QB2 in fantasy football. Cutler is still worth stashing for the fantasy postseason, but just barely in 12-team leagues. He's dealing with a high ankle sprain in addition to the preexisting groin tear.

Mon Nov 11 201315:06Jay Cutler officially ruled out for Week 11
Jay Cutler (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 11.
Josh McCown will be back under center against the Ravens. The fact that Cutler was ruled out before the Bears even returned to practice suggests he's staring at a multi-week absence. He should be back by the start of the fantasy playoffs in Week 14, but owners need to be formulating a back-up plan.

Mon Nov 11 201313:07Trestman: I should have pulled Cutler sooner
Bears coach Marc Trestman admitted Monday he stayed with Jay Cutler (groin, ankle) too long in Sunday's loss to Detroit.
Trestman didn't pull a hobbled Cutler until Chicago's final possession. Josh McCown came on to lead a touchdown drive, but Matt Forte couldn't convert the two-point conversion attempt to send the game to overtime. "I went through the tape closely this morning and watched Jay's performance, and I thought he did well into the fourth quarter," Trestman said. "But at the end of the day, if we had to do it all over again, maybe it would be one series before the two-minute drill." Asked Monday if Cutler will start in Week 11 against Baltimore, Trestman replied "I really don't know."

Sun Nov 10 201320:28Jay Cutler headed for more tests Monday
Jay Cutler will have further testing on his sprained ankle Monday.
Initial tests done at Soldier Field Sunday came back negative. It appears Cutler is dealing with a sprain of unknown severity in addition to the groin tear he just returned from. Both ailments are on the same leg. "I just didn't feel I could make some of the throws I wanted to make and move around, couldn't be as mobile," Cutler said about leaving the game late in the fourth quarter.

Jay Cutler (groin) is active and will start against the Lions on Sunday.
As expected. Cutler practiced all week and is making quite the quick return after tearing his groin in Week 7. He missed just one start. Cutler is on the QB1 radar. Inactive for the Bears are DE Shea McClellin (hamstring), WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder), QB Jordan Palmer, LS Patrick Mannelly, G James Brown, T Jonathan Scott, and DT Jeremiah "Jay" Ratliff. David Bass will start for McClellin.

Fri Nov 8 201313:27Jay Cutler practices again on Friday
Jay Cutler (groin) participated in Bears practice again Friday.
Cutler has been medically cleared for Week 10 and will get the start. Rotoworld's Pat Daugherty conservatively ranks Cutler 13th among fantasy quarterbacks in his first game back against Detroit, but Cutler should move back up the list soon. Cutler was the No. 6 overall fantasy QB before getting hurt in Week 7. A link to RotoPat's full Week 10 rankings is accessible below.

Thu Nov 7 201312:18Cutler practices for first time since injury
Jay Cutler (groin) is practicing Thursday, as expected.
It's the first time Cutler has practiced since injuring his groin in Week 7. He's progressed quickly through rehab work, but the team wants to see how he moves on the field. Of course, Cutler himself has already admitted that he won't rush back in part because of how well backup Josh McCown is playing. We'd consider Cutler very questionable for Week 10 and then a good bet to return in Week 11.

Wed Nov 6 201316:50Jay Cutler to test groin on Thursday
Jay Cutler (groin) would have been listed as "limited" if the Bears practiced Wednesday.
The Bears are on a short week, so Cutler will test out his groin on Thursday. "I don't know where he's at really," coach Marc Trestman said. "He's been running around, working out with the trainers." Cutler himself already admitted that Josh McCown's excellent play may cause him to play it safe Sunday. We'll know more after the Bears get a look at his progress on the field.

Mon Nov 4 201320:37Mort: Cutler (groin) plans to play Week 10
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Jay Cutler (groin) plans to return to practice this week and play Week 10 against the Lions.
Cutler is inactive for Monday night's game against the Packers. Josh McCown is getting the start in his place as the Bears come off the bye week. Cutler went down in Week 7. If he can make it back for the divisional matchup against Detroit, he'd miss just a game-and-a-half. Cutler was originally expected to miss "at least" four weeks. His plan all along was to beat that timetable, and it appears he has a decent chance to do so. Cutler is already doing some running, dropbacks, and throwing. He's worth picking up if he's available in your fantasy leagues. Cutler will be the No. 1 QB in Adam Levitan's Waiver Wired this week.

Mon Nov 4 201319:19Cutler headlines Bears Week 9 inactives
Bears declared Jay Cutler (groin), WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder), WR Joe Anderson, G James Brown, T Jonathan Scott, DE Cornelius Washington, and DT Zach Minter inactive for Week 9 against the Packers.
Cutler is hoping to suit up next week against the Lions but that's far from certain. Briggs is also hoping to beat his original 4-6 week timetable. He's missing his second game. Anderson is battling an abdomen issue.

Sun Nov 3 201312:22Increasing optimism on Cutler's timetable
According to ESPN Chicago, there has been an "increased sense of optimism" that Jay Cutler (groin) can beat his original four-week timetable.
Cutler went down in Week 7 and the Bears said he'd miss at least four weeks. He's already been ruled out for Monday night's game at Green Bay, but it looks like the Week 10 home game against the Lions is a possibility. There's certainly some stash appeal consider how well Cutler was playing prior to the injury and the Bears' schedule in Weeks 12-16: at STL, at MIN, vs. DAL, at CLE, at PHL.

Sat Nov 2 201316:01Bears officially rule out Cutler for Week 9
Jay Cutler (groin) has officially been ruled out for Week 9.
Cutler was never expected to play and still hasn't been cleared to practice. He's hoping to beat his current four-week timetable, but likely won't return until Week 11 in a best-case scenario.

Tue Oct 29 201313:57Jay Cutler hoping to beat four-week timetable
Speaking Tuesday, Jay Cutler (torn groin) said he's hoping to beat his four-week timetable for a return.
"I'll push it as much as I can," Cutler said. "That's up to the trainers and doctors." Cutler described himself as "day to day," but there's a zero percent chance he starts in Week 9. Week 10 is almost as unlikely. Week 11 would be a best-case scenario, but Week 12 will probably be Cutler's first real shot at returning.
