Tue Aug 2 201120:01Umenyiora's agent has contacted 21 teams
The player rep for Osi Umenyiora has spoken with 21 teams about a potential trade for the disgruntled pass rusher.
"It's not going to be long now," the agent said. "Just trying to convince them to give up that elusive first-round pick. Still working on it." That's easier said that done, especially since Umenyiora is believed to be seeking a contract in the range of Charles Johnson's six-year, $76 million deal. We don't see any team giving up a first-round pick or $10 million a year.

Tue Aug 2 201117:35Ravens interested in Osi Umenyiora
The Baltimore Sun's Mike Preston reports that the Ravens do have interest in Osi Umenyiora, but not at the Giants' current first-round asking price.
The Sun essentially reported the same thing last week, confirming that the Ravens had shown "preliminary interest" in last year's NFL leader in forced fumbles. The Ravens will hope for the Giants' price tag to come down. You have to remember that Umenyiora won't just cost a high draft pick; he'll require a new contract with a ton of front-loaded money. It's not an easy trade.

Tue Aug 2 201115:40Chargers not a good bet for Umenyiora
The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee doesn't believe the Chargers will make a play for Osi Umenyiora at a first- or second-round price.
The Chargers have been reported as one of five teams interested in dealing for the disgruntled pass rusher. Acee hasn't been able to get a denial from the Bolts yet, but he insists the move "just doesn't make sense, especially since he'd need a new contract."

Tue Aug 2 201109:42Report: Five teams interested in Umenyiora
The Chargers, Seahawks, Broncos, Ravens and Rams have expressed an interest in trading for Osi Umenyiora, sources tell the New York Daily News.
None of these teams appear willing to meet the Giants' asking price of a first-round pick. But if the price is dropped to a second-rounder, the Giants may get someone to bite. The Daily News' sources cite the Rams as the team to watch -- former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo now coaching in St. Louis.

Tue Aug 2 201108:07Umenyiora complains of
Disgruntled RE Osi Umenyiora claimed GM Jerry Reese told him in 2008 that if he was still playing at a high level in two years, he'd be rewarded with a new contract.
Umenyiora made the claim in a sworn affidavit as part of the Brady vs. NFL lawsuit during the lockout. "The fact is in the business we are in, if you get injured, or they feel like you underperformed, they cut you without hesitation," said Umenyiora. "But if you clearly outplay your contract, and ask for something to be done, you're a bad guy and not a team player. It's ridiculous." Umenyiora clearly isn't making friends in the front office as he sits on the trading block.

Mon Aug 1 201118:20Osi could be traded if Giants lower cost
Per NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, there is "ample potential" for an Osi Umenyiora trade if the Giants lower their asking price to a second-day pick.
Permitted to seek a trade, Umenyiora's agent made calls around the league Monday but found no takers at the first-round asking price. La Canfora does call a second- or third-round pick "feasible," but it's unclear if New York will budge. La Canfora confirms that the Browns are "keeping watch" on pass rushers, and names the Seahawks, Ravens, and Patriots as possible suitors for Umenyiora. ESPN's John Clayton has reported that Umenyiora wants to go to Seattle.

Mon Aug 1 201110:53Report: Giants allow Umenyiora to seek trade
The Giants have given RE Osi Umenyiora permission to seek a trade, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.
Despite reporting to the Giants Sunday, Umenyiora remains an unhappy camper. He wants a new contract or a trade, and the G-Men are apparently willing to accommodate the latter thanks to their impressive defensive end depth. Umenyiora wouldn't bring back a large haul as whatever team trades for him would also have to pony up a pile of cash in a long-term contract.

Sat Jul 30 201115:36Umenyiora ends 'holdout' after barely one day
Disgruntled RE Osi Umenyiora has ended his barely day-old holdout, and is en route to Giants' training camp.
Facing a $30,000 fine for each day he didn't report, Umenyiora has apparently realized he has almost no leverage in his pursuit of a new contract. He is not dropping his demand for a pay raise or trade, however, and says he won't speak with GM Jerry Reese "ever again." Umenyiora's holdout is over, but he may continue to be a distraction.

Sat Jul 30 201113:00Tuck doesn't envision long holdout for Osi
According to the Newark Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo, Giants LE Justin Tuck "seems to think there will be a quicker end to this Osi Umenyiora situation than many expect."
Tuck called Umenyiora on Saturday, but did not lobby for him to end his holdout. Garafolo thinks Tuck is just venturing a guess, but it would be odd for him to place extra pressure on his teammate if Tuck didn't have real reason to believe things were going to blow over quicker than anticipated.

Sat Jul 30 201109:58Umenyiora not planning to report on Saturday
Giants RE Osi Umenyiora is not planning to report for the first day of Giants practice on Saturday.
Umenyiora skipped his physical and team meetings on Friday, so it's not exactly a shock he won't be showing up for practice today. According to the New York Daily News, Umenyiora's protest "might not wind up being a long-term holdout." That seems unlikely, however, after Umenyiora never passed up an opportunity during the offseason to talk about how wronged he's been.

Fri Jul 29 201119:36Giants place Umenyiora on did-not-report list
Giants placed RE Osi Umenyiora on the reserve/did not report list.
He's now at risk of $30,000 daily fines for holding out of camp, per the NFL's new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Umenyiora didn't show for his physical on Friday morning and wants a new contract or a trade to a team that will give him one. The Giants have as much defensive end depth as any team in the league, so they may just let Umenyiora rot until he caves.

Fri Jul 29 201109:01Umenyiora won't show up for physical
Disgruntled Giants DE Osi Umenyiora will not show up for his physical Friday morning.
No surprise here. Umenyiora either wants a raise or a trade and is prepared to stage a holdout. Dealing Umenyiora is going to be extremely difficult as the Giants won't be able to get equal value and his new team would have to be willing to meet those hefty contract demands. This has a chance to get ugly.

Thu Jul 28 201120:32Ravens showing interest in DE Umenyiora
Citing a league source, the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have shown "preliminary interest" in disgruntled DE Osi Umenyiora.
Baltimore's sack numbers last year weren't up to par, and Umenyiora could form a dynamite duo with Terrell Suggs after the Ravens passed on pass rushers until late in the draft. The level of compensation may be hefty, however, even after the Giants re-upped with Mathias Kiwanuka on Thursday. Previous speculation has New York targeting, at the very least, a second-round pick.

Tue Jul 26 201111:41Report: Umenyiora to hold out of Giants camp
WFAN in New York reports that RE Osi Umenyiora will hold out of training camp if the Giants don't upgrade his contract in the near future.
The New York radio station cites sources on both sides (team and player). The Giants probably aren't going to budge, so this has the appearance of a potentially toxic situation. Perhaps the G-Men will consider trading Umenyiora. Stumbling blocks would be asking price (a very high draft pick), contract demands, and Umenyiora's medical concerns. He is recovering from offseason hip surgery, and wants a big raise on a long-term deal.

Mon Jul 25 201111:32Disgruntled Osi Umenyiora could be cut
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested Monday that disgruntled RE Osi Umenyiora could be cut by the Giants.
Umenyiora is owed $7.1 million over the next two seasons but wants to be paid like a top-five defensive end. He's reportedly been threatening a holdout all summer. Still, we'd be very surprised if Umenyiora was cut. The Giants have all the leverage here and figure to have a sit down with their pass rusher shortly after the lockout is officially lifted.

Sat Jul 23 201115:38Mara wants Umenyiora to return
Giants owner John Mara wants to keep disgruntled RE Osi Umenyiora.
"I talked to him last week," Mara said referring to their much publicized meeting. "And told him we wanted him back." Mara is hopeful Umenyiora and GM Jerry Reese will sit down "man-to-man" and resolve their differences. If they don't, Umenyiora, who is owed $7.1 million the next two seasons, is almost assured of holding out.

Tue Jul 19 201119:50Report: Umenyiora likely to consider holdout
Osi Umenyiora will reportedly consider holding out of training camp if the Giants don't pay him like one of the top five defensive ends in the league.
Umenyiora has already testified that GM Jerry Reese broke a promise to restructure his contract, but he won't hold up a CBA settlement because his beef isn't with the NFL. "He assumes they'll throw some cash at him or something," a source tells the New York Daily News. "But do you really think he's not going to sign off on a deal? No." Facing salary cap concerns, the Giants aren't expected to give in to Umenyiora's demands

Tue Jul 19 201112:41John Clayton: Umenyiora interested in Seattle
According to ESPN's John Clayton, Giants RE Osi Umenyiora would be interested in playing for the Seahawks.
"Seattle is one of the teams he's interested in," Clayton stated on 710 ESPN Seattle Monday. "That could be the type of player at defensive end, as long as it doesn't cost a first-round pick, that maybe there'd be some interest." Umenyiora doesn't fit the mold of a defensive end in Pete Carroll's scheme. As the old adage goes, however, you can never have too many pass rushers.

Sat Jul 16 201111:10Umenyiora still playing hardball
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports Giants RE Osi Umenyiora is "sticking to his gun" with regards to his contract demands.
That would of course be either getting a sweetened deal from the Giants or a trade to a team willing to give him one. According to Paolantonio, Umenyiora and the other name plaintiffs in the *NFLPA's antitrust lawsuit are pushing to have their situations resolved "before they sign off on (the league-wide) the deal."

Sun Jun 19 201109:15Umenyiora doesn't rule out holdout
Disgruntled Giants RE Osi Umenyiora has not ruled out a holdout or demanding a trade.
"I mean this is a business," Umenyiora said on Saturday when asked what would happen if his contract was not restructured. "As we can see, the teams are operating as a business right now. They're doing what they feel like they need to do to maximize their revenue. As a player you have to do the same thing."
