Sat Mar 9 201315:34Falcons interested in Umenyiora, Freeney
According to Profootballtalk.com, the Falcons are believed to be "keenly interested" in free agent DEs Osi Umenyiora and Dwight Freeney.
The Falcons are pursuing a cheaper alternative to John Abraham. Both Umenyiora and Freeney would be on-field downgrades, and Atlanta will face competition from Tennessee and Denver. GM Thomas Dimitroff is one of the best in the business, but he's put himself in a difficult spot in terms of pass rush. His draft picks haven't worked out and he may have to overpay for a declining veteran.

Fri Mar 8 201320:52Umenyiora not closing the door on Giants
Free agent DE Osi Umenyiora isn't closing the door on a return to the Giants, but will test the open market.
"I'd love to return there; that's home. I spent a third of my life there in New York," said Umenyiora, 31. "... Obviously I would love to return, but this is my first chance at free agency, so I have to definitely go see what's out there." Umenyiora went so far as to predict he'll be 2013 Defensive Player of the Year if he relocates and becomes an every-down defensive end.

Thu Mar 7 201318:26Titans pursuing pass rusher in free agency
Profootballtalk.com passes along "belief" in league circles that the Titans are pursuing a "high-end" pass rusher in free agency.
The Titans missed out on Mario Williams last offseason, and aren't satisfied with Kam Wimbley and Derrick Morgan on the ends. They want a nickel rusher to rotate with Wimbley and Morgan, keeping the unit fresh. PFT mentions free agents Osi Umenyiora, Dwight Freeney, and John Abraham as possibilities for Tennessee.

Fri Feb 8 201312:20Could Umenyiora be a fit with the Seahawks?
The Seattle Times says free agent DE Osi Umenyiora could be an option for the Seahawks.
Beat writer Danny O'Neil was told in 2011, coming out of the lockout, that Umenyiora was interested in going to Seattle to play, but the Seahawks didn't want to give up the high draft pick to acquire him from the Giants at the time. O'Neil doesn't expect the Seahawks to offer a lucrative long-term deal, but a fit is there. Seattle has already stated their desire for more pass rush help.

Thu Feb 7 201313:53Umenyiora's deal officially voids Thursday
Giants DE Osi Umenyiora's contract will officially void on Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent.
He is not expected back with the Giants, who are making a concerted effort to get younger and cheaper. Umenyiora's departure isn't going on the books as a release, so he can't sign a new contract until the start of the new league year on March 12. Umenyiora is far from the force he once was, but will certainly be looking for a multi-year deal. We expect him to get one.

Impending free agent Osi Umenyiora says he and the Jets "might be a good fit."
"Rex Ryan, when I was coming out of college he was with Baltimore at the time and he came down to work me out at Troy, just me and him," Umenyiora said when asked about the Jets. "We had a pretty good time out there so I've always enjoyed him as a coach and as a person. That might be a good fit." Umenyiora, 31, has made it known that he wants to return to the Giants, but he knows he won't be a starter there.

Thu Jan 24 201313:42Giants 'would love to have' Umenyiora back
Giants co-owner John Mara says he "would love to have" impending free agent DE Osi Umenyiora back in 2013.
Following Week 16, Umenyiora conceded that there was a "high probability" that he would not be returning to the Giants but later said he "hopes" to be back. With the Giants wanting to get younger and already having a stocked cupboard of talented pass rushers, it's hard to see Umenyiora, 31, returning. He'll be seeking one more big contract on the open market.

Umenyiora, 31, finished 2012 with six sacks and two forced fumbles.

Osi Umenyiora told reporters Monday that "it's a high probability" he won't be retuning with the Giants.

Osi Umenyiora's restructured deal bumps his 2012 salary and bonuses from $4.7 million to $6.5 million.
It's not the long-term deal that Umenyiora wanted, but he's ready to put the dragging contract dispute behind him for now. He'll still be a free agent after this season. With a motivated Umenyiora, Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck, the Giants' pass rush will be ferocious once again this season.

Fri Jun 1 201217:05Giants & Umenyiora complete revised contract
Giants agreed to a restructured contract with DE Osi Umenyiora.
He's not going to be traded. "I appreciate Osi's patience and effort through this process," GM Jerry Reese said. "We talked it out, and it makes sense for everybody involved. We are very pleased, excited and looking forward to seeing number 72 on the field at Monday's OTA." Financial terms have not yet been revealed. Umenyiora was owed $3.975 million in the final year of his old deal. "I'm just happy, I'm happy all that's over with," said the 30-year-old pass rusher. "It's time to get back to work."

Umenyiora has wanted a raise since the 2007 offseason, less than 24 months after he signed a seven-year, $41.38 million deal. "I just came to the conclusion that this situation I don't think he can help me with," Umenyiora said of the agent change. "I have no agent currently, and I'm not really looking for one."

Wed May 30 201214:46Giants, Umenyiora remain 'very far apart'
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported on SportsCenter Wednesday that the Giants and Osi Umenyiora remain "very far apart" in contract talks.
While there's an "open dialogue" between the sides, Umenyiora's asking price is clearly out of the range of the Giants' offer. As Sal Pal noted, the G-Men have a mandatary minicamp scheduled for June 12-15. We'll know Umenyiora is serious about a potential training camp holdout if he doesn't report then.

Wed May 23 201211:39Umenyiora a no-show for start of OTAs
Giants DE Osi Umenyiora was a no-show for the start of OTAs on Wednesday.
This week's practices are voluntary, so Umenyiora is free to stay away. His absence is only newsworthy as an indication that he remains unhappy with his contract situation entering the final season of a seven-year, $41.38 million deal.

Tue May 1 201215:25Reese: Our options are open on Umenyiora
Although GM Jerry Reese is still planning to have Osi Umenyiora on the Giants' roster for the 2012 season, he concedes that the team's options are "open."
"Our goal is to have Osi play football with the New York Giants and retire as a Giant," said Reese. "That is what we would like to do first. All of our options are open as I have said before but Osi makes us a better football team, I do know that." This ongoing saga between Umenyiora and the Giants always ratchets up during the offseason, only to disappear once the team begins winning games.

Mon Apr 30 201208:42Osi: Giants making me look like 'greedy pig'
Giants DE Osi Umenyiora believes GM Jerry Reese is trying to make him look like a "greedy pig."
Reese said Saturday the Giants have offered Umenyiora extensions each of the past two years, but Umenyiora insists they weren't fair offers. "Last year I was offered incentives. This year they offered me in guaranteed money, half of what they just gave (SLB Mathias Kiwanuka) guaranteed. Half," Umenyiora said. The gulf between the G-Men and their veteran end appears to be as wide as ever, and a holdout should not be ruled out if Umenyiora isn't traded before camp.
