Fri Apr 27 201214:13'Some buzz' Titans going after Umenyiora
The Nashville Tennessean passes along "some buzz" that the Titans might be working on a trade for Osi Umenyiora.
"Don't get your hopes up," beat writer Jim Wyatt cautioned. If Osi is going to be traded, it will almost certainly happen today in exchange for a 2012 second-day draft pick. It's believed he could be gotten for a third-rounder.

Wed Apr 25 201215:28Osi hints he doesn't want short-term deal
DE Osi Umenyiora hinted Wednesday he'd rather play out the final year of his contract than agree to a short-team extension with the Giants.
"Somebody was just saying to me they've never seen a defensive end who's been made to play out seven years of a deal," Umenyiora said. "For the Giants to make me do that, that's kind of unfortunate." It is indeed extremely rare for any NFL player to make it through the life of a seven-year deal unaltered, but there's a chance Osi could be traded during the draft, preventing him from joining the exclusive club.

Wed Apr 25 201212:51Report: Umenyiora trade not 'imminent'
Two NFL sources balk at NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora's speculation that Giants DE Osi Umenyiora could be had for a third-round pick this week.
Although Umenyiora acknowledged Wednesday that there's a "chance" of a trade during the draft, the two sources maintain that nothing is "imminent" on that front. During a radio interview this week, Umenyiora stated that he's looking for a new contract in the neighborhood of four years and $40 million, between the recent deals signed by Robert Mathis (four years, $36 million) and Trent Cole (four years, $48 million).

Wed Apr 25 201210:20Umenyiora: Trade wouldn't mean new contract
Osi Umenyiora made it clear Wednesday that any team trading for him would not have to extend his contract.
Expecting to have the best year of his career, Umenyiora is happy to play out the last year of his contract to hit the free agent market in 2013. Umenyiora expects trade talk to heat up over the next few days, and suggests he and the Giants have many "issues" to work through.

Tue Apr 24 201218:45Giants listening to Umenyiora offers?
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora believes "things could get interesting" if the Giants are offered a third-round pick for DE Osi Umenyiora this week.
LaCanfora appears to be taking the pulse of his league connections as opposed to reporting news. The Giants were seeking a first-round pick last offseason, when Umenyiora still had two years left on a team-friendly contract and Jason Pierre-Paul had yet to emerge as perhaps the league's most dangerous defensive end.

Thu Apr 19 201215:18Giants have discussed Umenyiora extension
GM Jerry Reese says "a little" discussion has taken place regarding a potential contract extension for DE Osi Umenyiora.
"I'm still open to that," Reese said. "There has been a little bit of talk, but it is a long way to go before we play and a lot of things for us to do. That is on our plate as well." Scheduled to earn $3.9 million in the final year of his contract, Umenyiora has expressed reluctance to remain in New York as a rotational backup.

Thu Apr 12 201219:23Umenyiora doesn't like being a backup
Osi Umenyiora said Thursday it would be "wonderful" to finish his career with the Giants, but he doesn't like "being a backup."
Umenyiora has thought about being traded at draft time, but his agent has had no such talks thus far. GM Jerry Reese's openness to a contract extension "means a lot" to Umenyiora, but "until it happens, it's just talk." Umenyiora won't commit to participating in the Giants' offseason program. Another contract standoff could be in the works.

Wed Mar 28 201208:32Coughlin: Umemyiora will remain with Giants
Coach Tom Coughlin indicated that DE Osi Umeyiora will definitely remain with the Giants in 2012.
"I'm not thinking of anything else" other than Umenyiora returning, said Coughlin. Both sides are open to a long-term contract after Umenyiora vowed to stay quiet this offseason. He's no longer a major trade candidate.

Sat Feb 25 201214:37GM Reese: Giants open to Osi extension
GM Jerry Reese says the Giants are open to signing DE Osi Umenyiora to a contract extension.
"We are open to everything right now," Reese said. "But we don't know what we can do yet (salary cap-wise)." Reese was also skeptical of Umenyiora's claim that he'd be willing to offer the Giants a hometown discount, saying the comments were likely "taken out of context." With Umenyiora signed cheaply entering his age-31 season, locking him up beyond 2012 won't be on the front-burner for the G-Men.

Coach Tom Coughlin expects Osi Umenyiora to remain with the Giants in the final year of his contract.
As long as Umenyiora sticks to his pledge to remain "really quiet" this offseason, the contending Giants have no incentive to trade one of their key defenders.

Mon Feb 6 201208:29Umenyiora stays mum on future
RE Osi Umenyiora refused to comment on his future following the Giants' Super Bowl win.
"Whatever happens next season happens," he said. The fact that Umenyiora wasn't willing to offer the Giants an olive branch just moments after winning the Super Bowl is a sign he's ready for another contract showdown. Going into the final season of the seven-year, $41.38 million deal he signed in 2005, Umenyiora is currently set to make $3.975 million in 2012.

Mon Jan 30 201208:44Umenyiora glad he stayed with the Giants
RE Osi Umenyiora says he's "glad (the Giants) decided to keep me around" following his training camp contract standoff.
"It was business with me and business with them," Umenyiora said. "But I never felt it was personal and I never felt they did, either. I always felt that the people in charge had genuine affection for me." Heading into the final season of the seven-year, $41.4 million extension he signed in 2005, Umenyiora is saying all the right things in anticipation of another contract showdown. CBS' Clark Judge reported Saturday the Giants are expected to make Umenyiora available this offseason.

Sat Jan 28 201218:25Umenyiora expected to go on trade block
According to Clark Judge of CBSSports.com, league-wide speculation is that the Giants will try to trade Osi Umenyiora before next season.
Umenyiora remains one of the league's most dangerous pass rushers, as evidenced by his 5.5 sacks since returning from an ankle sprain four games ago. Though he's under contract for $3.975 million, Umenyiora wants a long-term contract and a starting job. The Giants will offer neither now that Jason Pierre-Paul is entrenched opposite Justin Tuck.

Wed Jan 4 201214:42Umenyiora gets in a limited practice
RE Osi Umenyiora (ankle) was a limited participant in Giants practice Wednesday.
A report surfaced Tuesday that Umenyiora suffered "a little setback" with his high-ankle sprain in New York's Week 17 win over the Cowboys, but it doesn't look like anything that's going to hold him out against the Falcons. Atlanta allowed the sixth fewest sacks in the league this season, so having all their pass rushers healthy will be key for the Giants.

Giants RE Osi Umenyiora suffered "a little setback" with his high-ankle sprain in Sunday's win over Dallas.
The New York Daily News does not believe the setback is "anything serious," but expects Umenyiora to miss some practice time in the run up to Sunday's Wild Card tilt with the Falcons. Limited to nine games by injury, Umenyiora still managed to tally nine regular-season sacks.
