"In the end, he may try to play. But he needs at least a couple more weeks to properly heal." Umenyiora has missed the Giants' last four games.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Giants RE Osi Umenyiora (knee) is out for Week 2 and "iffy" to return in Week 3.

La Canfora says he's been "told" Umenyiora won't play against the Rams. Umenyiora resumed running less than a week ago. The Giants are starting Jason Pierre-Paul in the meantime, and he'll face Rams LT Rodger Saffold on Monday night.
