2B Cory Spangenberg (quad) underwent an MRI exam Thursday, the results of which weren't immediately available. 2B Cory Spangenberg (quad) was placed on the DL after getting hurt on Tuesday night trying to beat out an infield single. Spangenberg's legs are a big part of his game so the Padres will make sure he's right before he returns. The time off might do Spangenberg good mentally as he had gotten off to a slow start. He's hitting .229 and has a club-high five errors.

Sun Oct 4 201513:30Spangenberg out of lineup Sunday against Dodgers
Spangenberg is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, MLB.com's Bill Center reports.
Spangenberg had started the previous 17 games for the Padres, but will get the day off for the season finale, with Clint Barmes earning a start in the middle infield in his place. Though he hasn't hit for much pop this season, Spangenberg has batted .271 while getting on base at a strong .333 clip. Barring any major offseason moves for the Padres in the middle infield, Spangenberg should be in line for a full-time role in 2016.

Spangenberg went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in a 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
The young second baseman shows some flashes of brilliance and it;s all a matter of consistency for him. In 102 games played, Spangenberg has nine steals and that may be his most worthy attribute for fantasy owners going forward. He has shown some pop at the minors, but his strikeout rate and walk rate would indicate that it will be tough for him to maintain a decent average at the major league level.

Spangenberg will start at third base and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Rangers.
The 24-year-old has made 10 starts atop the order already this season, with Wednesday marking his second time there since his mid-August activation from the DL. Spanenberg has gone 13-for-41 with seven extra-base hits since his return, including two (a double and a triple) in Monday's loss.
Fri Aug 14 201517:20Spangenberg (knee) reinstated from 15-day disabled list Friday
Spangenberg (knee) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
He missed 38 game with a left knee contusion and had been playing rehab games at Double-A and Triple-A prior to his activation. Look for the Padres to deploy him several times per week at second base and third base.

Spangenberg (knee) had his rehab transferred from Double-A San Antonio to Triple-A El Paso, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
Spangenberg has played six rehab games at Double-A San Antonio, batting .192 with a triple and an RBI. It's not an encouraging sample, but the team will nonetheless transfer him to Triple-A, where he figures to play a few more games before making his return to the San Diego lineup. Spangerberg has seen most of his rehab work at third base, but he made an appearance at shortstop last week, an indication that the Padres may be toying with the idea of shifting him around the infield.

Spangenberg is batting .192 (5-for-26) with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base through six rehab games with Double-A San Antonio.
The 24-year-old has played mostly between third base and second while with San Antonio, but it's worth noting that he also made a start at shortstop last week, his first appearance at the position as a pro. Shortstop remains a glaring hole for San Diego, but it's uncertain if the club has any immediate plans to use Spangenberg at short in the majors. He's also without a set date for a return to the active roster.

Spangenberg (knee) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with Double-A San Antonio, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Spangenberg has been out since late June with the knee sprain, but after increasing baseball-related activities in recent days, it looks as though he's finally progressed to the point where he's ready to play. The infielder's month-plus absence will probably require him to spend at least a couple games in the minors before his activation from the DL, but where he'll report from there remains to be determined. Jedd Gyorko has since taken back the starting second base job with the big club and has performed markedly better of late, which could force Spangenberg to settle in for a regular role at Triple-A El Paso.
Sat Aug 1 201518:53Spangenberg (knee) will begin to ramp up baseball activities
Spangenberg (knee) will begin to ramp up baseball activities, and could head out on a rehab assignment by the end of the week, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
Spangenberg has been sidelined since late June with the knee injury, but appears nearly ready to begin the final step before rejoining the Padres. When healthy, the 24-year-old will likely retake a starting role at either second or third base.

Spangenberg (knee) will continue his rehab at the team's spring training facility in Arizona as the Padres head east for a 10-game road trip, the Union-Tribune reports.
Spangenberg has already begun fielding grounders, and assistant GM Fred Uhlman told reporters that the next step in his rehab process will be focused on lateral movement. A knee contusion has placed Spangenberg on the shelf for nearly a month now, with Jedd Gyorko taking over the everyday second base job for the time being. There is still no timetable for Spangenberg to begin a rehab assignment at this point.
Mon Jul 20 201509:36Spangenberg (knee) has seen condition improve of late
Spangenberg (knee) has seen his condition improve of late, but remains without a firm return timetable, the Associated Press reports.
Spangenberg has missed three weeks due to the bruised left knee, with the Padres since turning the keystone back over to Jedd Gyorko. In considering the long layoff and the fact that his performance had been on decline prior to the injury, Spangenberg may not be guaranteed a starting role once he's fully recovered.
