Sun Dec 9 2012 | 14:46 | Rangers 'very open' to trading Mike Olt |
ESPN's Buster Olney was told by rival executives that the Rangers are "very open" to trading Mike Olt. |
With the Rangers losing out on Zack Greinke, there's a pretty good chance they'll wind up using Olt in a package for rotation help. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News has reported that the Mets turned down an offer of Olt for R.A. Dickey. Olt would make sense for the Rays in a package for James Shields. |

Tue Dec 4 2012 | 10:08 | Rangers not motivated to move Mike Olt |
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he has received many trade inquiries on Mike Olt, but is not motivated to move him. |
The perception is that Olt is blocked at third base by Adrian Beltre, but the Rangers still view him as an important part of their future with Nelson Cruz, Michael Young and David Murphy all set to become free agents following the 2013 season. The 24-year-old batted .152 (5-for-33) in his first cup of coffee in the big leagues this past season and dealt with a nagging foot injury down the stretch. |

Tue Nov 13 2012 | 09:44 | Braves turned down Olt-for-Simmons deal |
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Rangers offered Mike Olt to the Braves for Andrelton Simmons. |
The Rangers are reluctant to trade Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar to the Diamondbacks for Justin Upton, so they attempted to acquire Simmons and flip him to Arizona. However, the Braves weren't interested. The Diamondbacks want Simmons, so the Braves could have a match for Upton if they wanted, but they are expected to keep their young shortstop. |

Olt drove home Mike Napoli with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, then added an RBI single to center in the sixth. He's now 2-for-5 through his first two MLB games, and should continue to see regular playing time against left-handed pitching. There's no denying Olt's offensive potential. |

Thu Aug 2 2012 | 17:35 | Olt mostly to play against left-handers |
Rangers manager Ron Washington said Thursday that Mike Olt will mainly see at-bats at first base and designated hitter against left-handed pitching. |
He could also see some playing time at third base if Adrian Beltre needs a day off or get a day at designated hitter, but that probably won't happen very often. While Olt is a very intriguing prospects, getting at-bats against left-handed pitching will limit his fantasy value. Perhaps Washington will work him into the lineup against righties if he starts out hot, but he's mostly worth a look in AL-only and deeper mixed formats for now. |
