Sun Jan 5 201402:19Brent Celek gets two catches in loss
Brent Celek caught two passes for 16 yards in Saturday's Wild Card loss to the Saints.
Celek was a coach's favorite and continued to play just about every snap in his seventh season with the Eagles, but his role changed dramatically under new coach Chip Kelly. The plodder was mostly a blocker as he saw just 50 targets, a low-water mark since he got 38 in 2008. It makes sense, as Zach Ertz was drafted to be the pass-catching tight end. With Ertz figuring to take a big leap in year two, Celek's role will be reduced even further in 2014. He won't be a fantasy option.

Celek finishes with 32 receptions, 502 yards, and six touchdowns in his first season in coach Chip Kelly's offense. He'll continue to be used in a committee with Zach Ertz in Saturday's Wild Card game against the Saints.

Wed Dec 11 201309:16Brent Celek continues to shine as as blocker
OC Pat Shurmur continues to single out Brent Celek for his blocking.
Celek was an average (at best) blocker early in his career, but his embraced his new role in Chip Kelly's offense. Along with a dominant and healthy offensive line, the tight end is a big reason LeSean McCoy leads the NFL in rushing. Of course, this role has taken Celek off the fantasy radar completely as he's averaging 1.9 catches for 26.7 yards on the season. When the Eagles want to throw to their tight end, they bring in rookie Zach Ertz.

Sun Nov 17 201318:24Brent Celek turns into Usain Bolt on screen
Brent Celek caught one pass for a 42-yard touchdown in Sunday's Week 11 win over the Redskins.
On Celek's lone target of the day, he got a deceptive screen with blockers in front. The burly, lead-footed tight end looked like Usain Bolt as he sprinted past a pathetic Redskins defense to the house. It doesn't change the fact that Celek, who has 19 catches in 11 games this year, is a TE3.

Coach Chip Kelly said the Tampa heat was the reason Brent Celek's snaps decreased in Week 6.
Celek played on 48-of-68 snaps while rookie Zach Ertz saw a season-high 42 snaps. We'll take Kelly at his word here, but Celek is definitely losing looks in the passing game. He's averaging just 3.0 targets per game on the season while Ertz saw six targets in Week 6 alone.

Celek saw one target compared to six for rookie Zach Ertz, whose role is clearly growing. It's a major problem for Celek's expected production. With just nine catches for 132 yards and one touchdown over the last five weeks, Celek is not even a TE2.

Sun Sep 29 201320:08Brent Celek leads Eagles in yards Sunday
Brent Celek caught three passes for 57 yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Broncos.
A wide open Celek really hurt his team when he dropped a perfectly thrown ball at the 5-yard line on the first drive of the game. But Michael Vick didn't give up on him as Celek led the Eagles in targets (6) and yards. Celek is now on pace for 28 catches, 524 yards and four touchdowns. That's the floor of his projection as he continues to operate as the every-down tight end in the Eagles' fastbreak offense.
