Sun Dec 5 201018:25Cards bench Anderson for Hall in 3rd quarter
Derek Anderson was benched for Max Hall late in the third quarter of Sunday's game against St. Louis.
Hall was promptly picked by Bradley Fletcher on a terrible third-down throw into double coverage. Anderson finished 7-of-20 for 93 yards and an interception, with the Cardinals staring at a seventh straight loss. Despite coach Ken Whisehunt's insistences to the contrary, the Cardinals will have to think long and hard about inserting fifth-round rookie John Skelton in the near future. They're going to need a spark at some point, and at least Skelton can put some zip on the football.
Tue Nov 30 201013:15Cardinals to stick with Anderson in Week 13
Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Tuesday that he is sticking with Derek Anderson as his starting quarterback in Week 13.
Whisenhunt believes Anderson gives his ballclub the "best chance to win right now," which is a sad commentary on the state of the franchise. The Cardinals clearly need a spark that an erratic and uninspiring Anderson can't provide. Asked about turning to rookie John Skelton, Whiz explained that he didn't want to "run the risk of damaging a young guy" by placing him in a position where he won't succeed. Barring injury, Skelton isn't expected to play this season. The Max Hall ship has apparently sailed.

Tue Nov 30 201010:11Report: Anderson likely to get one last shot
The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers thinks the Cardinals are "one more loss" from making a change at quarterback.
Anderson was terrible again against the Niners Monday night, and he was seen on the sidelines late in the game laughing with OG Deuce Lutui. When questioned about it after the game, Anderson lashed out and eventually stormed off the stage. Somers adds that while Anderson has been brutal, the fact that Ken Whisenhunt has stuck with him is an indication of where he thinks Max Hall and John Skelton are in development. Don't expect the Cardinals' offensive woes to cease if they make a quarterback change, but they might as well look to the future at this point.

Tue Nov 30 201000:42Anderson has press conference explosion
Derek Anderson completed 16-of-35 passes for 196 yards and one interception against the 49ers in Week 12.
Anderson was unreasonably awful, making it his fourth straight game filled with accuracy struggles. His post-game press conference will be at the forefront of morning highlight shows. Anderson was seen chuckling with offensive lineman Deuce Lutui on the sideline with the team down three touchdowns. A reporter asked Anderson what was funny and Anderson exploded into a profanity laced tirade which ended with him storming off the stage. It's shocking that coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't bench Anderson mid-game. If Anderson remains the starter for Week 13, Whisenhunt should be fired.
Sun Nov 7 201016:55Derek Anderson inconsistent in loss
Derek Anderson completed 15-of-26 passes for 179 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's overtime loss to the Vikings.
Anderson left a ton of plays on the field thanks to wildly errant throws. On the bright side of things, he wasn't intercepted and finally found a way to get the ball to Larry Fitzgerald. Anderson likely earned another start when the Cards take on the Seahawks next week, but there's no upside here.
Wed Nov 3 201013:04Cards announce Anderson as Week 9 starter
Coach Ken Whisenhunt announced Wednesday that Derek Anderson will be the Cardinals' starting quarterback in Week 9.
Rookie Max Hall has been benched. Anderson moved the ball slightly better than Hall in Arizona's Week 8 loss to Tampa, but either way the Cardinals' offense should be targeted for fantasy defense purposes. D.A. is a pick machine with the poorest accuracy of any quarterback in football. On the year, he's completing 53.5 percent of his passes with a 4:7 TD-to-INT ratio.
Mon Nov 1 201014:14Whisenhunt not ready to name Week 9 starter
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt reiterated Monday that he's not yet ready to name a starting quarterback for Week 9.
The Arizona beat writers tentatively expect Derek Anderson to get the nod, but we may not know until Wednesday's practice. D.A. did move the ball more effectively than Max Hall in Week 8, though both quarterbacks threw two interceptions and the Cards know more of what they have in the veteran. It'd be hard to call either QB an obviously better option at this point.

Mon Nov 1 201010:19Whisenhunt not ready to name starter yet
Coach Ken Whisenhunt declined to name a starting quarterback for Week 9 immediately following Sunday's loss to the Bucs.
A brutally ineffective Max Hall was lifted in favor of Derek Anderson in the third quarter yesterday. Beat writer Kent Somers believes Whisenhunt will go back to Anderson for this week's game against the Vikings. At this point, neither quarterback is inspiring any confidence in the offense, but Hall doesn't appear ready to play.

Sun Oct 24 201019:29Derek Anderson provides very brief spark
Derek Anderson replaced Max Hall in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Cardinals and completed 8-of-17 passes for 96 yards.
Anderson provided a very brief spark on his first drive, leading Arizona to a touchdown on Beanie Wells' two-yard run. Otherwise, it was another ho-hum effort. Like Hall, Anderson didn't find Larry Fitzgerald with any kind of frequency, and Anderson's accuracy issues aren't going away. Hall left the game with a possible concussion. We should find out who will quarterback the Cardinals in Week 8 against the Bucs by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.
Sun Oct 3 201019:56Whisenhunt on QB choice: I'll watch the tape
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated Sunday night that he'll base his Week 5 quarterback decision on the film from Week 4.
Derek Anderson's replacement, Max Hall, at least led the Cards on a scoring drive (a Jay Feely field goal). Anderson didn't generate a single point in two quarters, and has now been pulled for Hall in two of Arizona's first four games. Hall also committed one turnover compared to Anderson's two. We'd lean toward predicting that Hall will get the nod against New Orleans.

Mon Sep 27 201014:46Whisenhunt: Anderson still our quarteback
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt reiterated Monday that Derek Anderson remains the team's starting quarterback.
Whisenhunt did say it's "obvious" that D.A. "needs to improve," but supported the inaccurate passer based on late-game performance. "The thing I like about Derek is he seems to make plays, especially later in the game," said Whiz. Anderson's job security remains tenuous heading to Week 4 at San Diego. He'll be on the bench once the Cards start losing to better teams than the Rams and Raiders.

Mon Sep 20 201015:02Whiz gives QB Anderson vote of confidence
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt gave Derek Anderson a vote of confidence Monday, a day after benching him for rookie Max Hall.
"Derek has done a number of good things and made some good throws, and he's missed some throws," Whisenhunt said. "That's going to happen. As we go forward in this season, we are going to need to hone in better on what we do well and get better at executing those things. That's what we'll do. Derek is not getting enough help." It sounds like Whisenhunt is willing to live with Anderson's inaccuracies because of his experience. Hall is still likely to take over at some point.

Sun Sep 19 201016:44Cards bench QB Anderson after two-pick game
Derek Anderson completed 17-of-31 passes for 161 yards and two interceptions in the Cardinals' Week 2 loss to Atlanta.
Max Hall was inserted late, though he didn't help himself by throwing Arizona's third interception of the game. Anderson did get the ball to Larry Fitzgerald (7-83), at least, though he still can't consistently complete easy throws. It wouldn't be surprising if the Cards turned to Hall sooner rather than later. They're an easily beaten team with D.A. under center.
Sun Sep 12 201020:00Anderson completes just 22-of-41 in win
Derek Anderson completed just 22-of-41 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' Week 1 win over the Cardinals.
Anderson missed his targets often and should have been intercepted by the Rams secondary multiple times. He also took several massive hits and left a couple of deep balls several feet short. But, hey, he didn't turn the ball over and was able to find Larry Fitzgerald in the back of the end zone for a game-winning fourth-quarter touchdown.
Thu Sep 2 201022:41Derek Anderson treated like starter Thursday
Derek Anderson started Arizona's fourth preseason game, as expected, and completed 2-of-3 passes for 47 yards.
The Cardinals' coaching staff treated Anderson as a clear-cut starter, pulling him after a single possession. Matt Leinart came on in relief. Avoid D.A. in all re-draft formats, but he's a fine QB3 in two-quarterback leagues.
Tue Aug 31 201015:16Derek Anderson to start preseason finale
Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Tuesday that Derek Anderson will start the Cardinals' preseason finale.
Anderson will enter Week 1 having started each of Arizona's final two exhibition contests. He's clearly got the Opening Day quarterback job wrapped up. Matt Leinart's release remains a growing possibility, as the Cards may not want to guarantee his full base salary by keeping him on the Week 1 roster.

Mon Aug 30 201014:02Anderson listed atop quarterback depth chart
Derek Anderson is listed at No. 1 on the Cardinals' quarterback depth chart this week.
Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com cautions not to get carried away with the depth chart as Matt Leinart was listed as No. 1 early last week. After coach Ken Whisenhunt's statement that chemistry and intangibles will factor in more than stats, though, Anderson is easily the favorite to open the season as the starter.

Mon Aug 30 201010:33Whiz is looking for intangibles from QBs
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that chemistry and intangibles are more important than stats when it comes to his quarterback.
In other words, Derek Anderson will be the Cardinals starter come Week 1. Leinart has failed to instill confidence in his teammates and his bitter reaction to being demoted certainly didn't help matters.

Thu Aug 26 201015:03Derek Anderson will start for Cards Saturday
Derek Anderson, not Matt Leinart, will start the Cardinals' third exhibition game on Saturday.
Wow. We knew Leinart was losing the confidence of his teammates after playing tentatively in the preseason, but Anderson hasn't exactly been Joe Montana. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says Anderson isn't his permanent starter yet, but he'll play most of the first half and would likely lock up the job with a decent performance. Anderson has some QB2 appeal thanks to all the Cardinals' weapons. His cannon arm wouldn't hurt the fantasy prospects of Larry Fitzgerald.

Tue Aug 24 201015:33Derek Anderson not ready to pass Leinart?
Cardinals website writer Darren Urban does not believe Derek Anderson is ready to start over Matt Leinart in Week 1.
Anderson certainly hasn't done enough in the preseason, and Urban hints that his knowledge of the offense isn't as far along as Leinart's. The whole passing game will be much better off once Larry Fitzgerald returns, though Anderson will gain ground if he outplays Leinart in the third exhibition game.
