Thu Jul 26 201217:31King: Kaeding has 'legit challenge' in Novak
According to SI.com's Peter King, Nate Keading (ACL surgery) has a "legit challenge" from Nick Novak in training camp.
King is stationed at Chargers camp and ostensibly got the information on good authority from the coaching staff. Although Novak exceeded expectations as Kaeding's fill-in last season, his accuracy has never been in the same neighborhood. Kaeding is fully recovered and should have the edge in camp.

Wed May 23 201214:53Nate Kaeding recovered from knee injury
Chargers K Nate Kaeding is fully recovered from his torn left ACL.
The North County Times clarifies that Kaeding suffered "multiple ligament tears," so his injury appears to have been more extensive than a routine ACL. The tears happened in Kaeding's non-kicking leg. Though Nick Novak was terrific in Kaeding's stead last season, it's expected that he'll get his kicking job back.

Fri Jan 13 201219:40Nate Kaeding to resume kicking this month
Chargers K Nate Kaeding (ACL surgery) is ahead of schedule in his recovery and will resume kicking field goals later this month.
Kaeding, who tore the ACL in his non-kicking leg last September, recently said he "doesn't anticipate a camp competition." He's in for a rude awakening after Nick Novak nailed 27-of-34 field goals in 2011, including 15-of-16 tries within 40 yards. Kaeding is owed $2 million compared to Novak's $700K. The longtime Charger kicker's roster spot is very much in danger.

Mon Sep 12 201115:23Bolts K Kaeding done for the season with knee
The Chargers have confirmed K Nate Kaeding is done for the season with a torn ACL in his non-kicking leg.
A perennial top-five fantasy kicker, Kaeding appears poised to be replaced by Nick Novak, who is just 19-of-30 lifetime on field goals. You should be able to do better for a replacement, though Novak could rack up points in San Diego's elite offense. He just won't be a good bet to keep the job for long.

Sun Sep 11 201120:22Kaeding needs 'miracle' to play in Week 2
Per the San Diego Union-Tribune, it would take a "miracle" for Chargers K Nate Kaeding (knee) to play in Week 2.
The Chargers aren't considering placing Kaeding on I.R. yet, but he's going to have to be dropped in fantasy leagues with a multi-week injury. Kaeding got hurt on Percy Harvin's 103-yard kickoff return Sunday -- the first play of the game. The Chargers will have to sign a kicker off the street.

Chargers coach Norv Turner indicated Wednesday that there's no set timetable for K Nate Kaeding (groin) to return.
Kaeding "tweaked" the same groin in Week 6 that he had surgically repaired over the offseason. "Those type of injures," Turner said, "they can come back in a couple of weeks, or he could be out until after the bye." Fantasy owners should feel confident dropping Kaeding for healthier kicker options.

Mon Aug 9 201016:33Kaeding consulting with psychologist
Chargers K Nick Kaeding has consulted with a sports psychologist "about six" times since he missed three field goals in the playoff loss to the Jets.
Kaeding has psychologists before, so this is nothing new. Still, six sessions suggest that a serious mental block remains. As one of the most accurate kickers in history, Kaeding's job is safe for now. Another disastrous playoff performance could have the Bolts looking for other options next offseason, though.

Wed May 19 201009:27Kaeding doing some light kicking
Nate Kaeding (groin surgery) said he recently began some light kicking.
Kaeding is not attending the Chargers' OTA this week and added that the injury occurred during the Pro Bowl. That means his groin wasn't an issue when he missed three field goals against the Jets in the playoffs. Still, as long as Kaeding proves he's healthy in training camp, we'd consider him an elite fantasy option. He led the all kickers in points last season by making 32-of-35 field goals.
