Mon Feb 24 201422:30Could 49ers be interested in Jones-Drew?
The Florida Times Union wonders if the 49ers could be interested in free agent Maurice Jones-Drew.
It seems like an extreme long shot. The 49ers' backfield doesn't appear to be big enough for both Jones-Drew and Frank Gore. Plus, San Francisco has talented backups in Kendall Hunter and Marcus Lattimore ready to assume larger roles with Gore seemingly destined for fewer carries. Jones-Drew spent his entire life in California before being drafted by the Jaguars in 2006. We don't expect him to have a hot market. He's our own Evan Silva's No. 85 free agent.

Fri Jan 31 201416:45Jaguars announce MJD will reach free agency
Owner Shad Khan and GM Dave Caldwell both confirmed at the Super Bowl Friday that Maurice Jones-Drew will be allowed to test the free agent market.
The only free agent Caldwell wants to speak with is Chad Henne, probably to return as Jacksonville's 2014 backup. Re-signing Jones-Drew is low on the Jaguars' list of offseason priorities, if it's even a goal at all. "It takes two to tango," Khan said of Jones-Drew, a career Jaguar. "Personally, I would love to see him back but it has to make sense for him. Dave has been on the record with what we want to do and that's absolutely true."

Tue Dec 31 201311:06Maurice Jones-Drew to test open market
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said he doesn't envision re-signing impending free agent Maurice Jones-Drew before free agency.
Free agency kicks off on March 11. Jones-Drew plans to test the open market. The Jaguars will then decide whether to match any offers MJD receives. Jones-Drew is looking for a long-term deal, but it's hard to see him getting more than the three years Steven Jackson and Shonn Greene got in free agency last offseason. The Jaguars would be better off letting Jones-Drew walk.

Mon Dec 30 201312:19Jones-Drew doesn't want a 2-year deal?
Impending free agent Maurice Jones-Drew reportedly doesn't want to settle for a two-year, incentive-laden contract.
Jones-Drew, of course, wants a long-term and lucrative deal. He's going to be snapped back into reality shortly. Just like the veteran running backs before him, he's going to find a soft market due to his age (29 in March), wear (2,135 career touches), injury history (2013 Lisfranc surgery) and declining production (3.43 YPC this season). MJD and his agent are going to have to adjust their financial expectations in a hurry.

Sun Dec 29 201317:11Jones-Drew could be done as a Jaguar
Maurice Jones-Drew rushed 13 times for 39 yards and caught five balls for 51 yards in the Jaguars' Week 17 loss to Indianapolis.
MJD finishes his disappointing contract year with a 234-803-5 rushing line and 43 receptions. An impending free agent, Jones-Drew has clearly lost multiple steps and is likely to be underwhelmed by his market in free agency. He can still get what's blocked and play in the passing game, but has become increasingly injury prone with reduced big-play ability going on age 29. (He turns in March.) We're not buying reports the Jaguars will meet Jones-Drew's free-agent asking price.

Sun Dec 29 201311:31Maurice Jones-Drew active for Week 17
Maurice Jones-Drew is active for Week 17, as expected.
Recovered from his late-season hamstring strain, MJD is expected to serve in his usual role against Indianapolis' weak run defense. The Jaguars' Week 17 inactives are QB Ricky Stanzi, CB Dwayne Gratz, C Patrick Lewis, RB Delone Carter, LB Geno Hayes, TE Allen Reisner, and DE Gerald Rivers.

Fri Dec 27 201315:28Jones-Drew expected to start Sunday
The Florida Times Union confirms Maurice Jones-Drew (probable, hamstring) is expected to start Sunday's finale against the Colts.
MJD emerged from last week's game setback free. His return to a full-time role will relegate Jordan Todman to kickoff return and pace-change duties.

Thu Dec 26 201318:59Maurice Jones-Drew back at Jags practice Thu.
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) returned to Jaguars practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.
MJD is expected to suit up for Sunday's finale after escaping last week's loss without further injury. Despite reports to the contrary, we'd be very surprised if Jones-Drew was back with the Jags in 2014.

Thu Dec 26 201310:03Jags want Jones-Drew back at right price?
According to the Times Union, it "is believed" that the Jaguars want impending free agent Maurice Jones-Drew back "at a reasonable price" and with an "adjusted role."
Given all the holes on the Jaguars roster, we'd be surprised if they spent much money at all on a declining 29-year-old running back. Ask the Falcons how their three-year, $12 million contract with Steven Jackson worked out. Jones-Drew, who feels like he has "a lot" left, is going to find a colder market than he expects come March. It's unclear if he'd be willing to accept a two-year deal with very little guaranteed money and the understanding he's now a committee back.

Tue Dec 24 201314:04Jones-Drew (hamstring) sits out Tuesday
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) did not practice Tuesday.
It's the holiday season, and MJD is likely getting a rest day ahead of a meaningless Week 17 game against the Colts. He's fully expected to play Sunday and split the load with Jordan Todman. MJD didn't suffer any setbacks.

Tue Dec 24 201310:23Maurice Jones-Drew will be limited this week
Coach Gus Bradley said he isn't sure if Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) will be able to carry a full workload in the season finale.
In Week 16, Jones-Drew started and got 17 touches on 29 snaps. Speedy backup Jordan Todman got seven touches on 28 snaps. MJD is expected to be limited in practice this week, but it would be a surprise if he didn't start again. Week 17 owners are looking at another low-upside timeshare.

Mon Dec 23 201313:31Maurice Jones-Drew emerges healthy
Playing through a hamstring injury in Week 16, Maurice Jones-Drew "came out of the game in good shape."
MJD dominated snaps and touches in Jacksonville's Week 16 backfield over Jordan Todman, totaling 69 yards. It appears Jones-Drew is on track to start in the season finale. The Jaguars face Indianapolis to close out the year.

Sun Dec 22 201316:35Jones-Drew limited to 45 yards on 13 carries
Maurice Jones-Drew had 13 carries for 45 yards in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Titans.
Jones-Drew started and played the entire game despite being listed as questionable with his hamstring injury. He got the majority of carries over Jordan Todman, who finished with seven touches. Jones-drew was targeted five times by Chad Henne and added four catches for 24 yards. A free agent after the year, it was likely Jones-Drew's last home game in Jacksonville. The Jaguars take on the Colts in Week 17.

Fri Dec 20 201313:31MJD practices on limited basis, questionable
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 16 against Tennessee.
Despite the return to limited reps, Hays Carlyon of the Florida Times-Union expects Jordan Todman to start in fantasy finals week. Coach Gus Bradley only said Jones-Drew did "some work." At the start of the session, beat writers didn't even notice Jones-Drew doing anything. Fantasy owners can keep Todman penciled in as an RB2/flex, but should check back Sunday morning for confirmation.

Thu Dec 19 201315:06Maurice Jones-Drew not practicing Thursday
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) remained out of Jaguars practice on Thursday.
The Jags are maintaining the illusion that MJD could return this week, but most signs suggest he'll miss another game. That leaves Jordan Todman as a bell-cow back, and plug-and-play RB2 for the fantasy finals. Todman had the best performance by a Jaguars running back this season in last week's loss to the Bills. He has an excellent Week 16 matchup in the Titans.

Wed Dec 18 201315:23Maurice Jones-Drew not at practice Wednesday
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
As expected. Don't look for Jones-Drew to practice much at all this week. Per John Oehser of the team's official website, MJD may not practice until Friday. That may even be a stretch. Jordan Todman has explosive speed around the edges and handled himself well in Jones-Drew's absence against the Bills, totaling 153 yards on 29 touches. Todman needs to be owned in all formats.

Mon Dec 16 201313:10Jaguars noncommittal on MJD for Week 16
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley was noncommittal Monday when addressing Maurice Jones-Drew's (hamstring) Week 16 status.
Bradley said Jones-Drew has "improved with rehab," and "they'll see how he progresses" through the week before making a determination. The Jags are out of playoff contention and Jordan Todman played well enough in Sunday's loss to Buffalo that we wouldn't be surprised to see Jones-Drew held out for another game. Either way, it sounds like MJD isn't going to practice much this week.
