Mon Dec 16 201308:03Jagaurs interested in re-signing Jones-Drew
The Jaguars are reportedly interested in re-signing impending free agent Maurice Jones-Drew.
"Why" is the first question that pops into our heads. Jones-Drew will turn 29 in March, has 2,104 touches worth of wear on his tires and has been extremely unproductive in 2013 following offseason Lisfranc surgery. Jordan Todman filled in for an inactive MJD against the Bills and recorded 153 total yards -- more than the starter has had since Week 3 of the 2012 season. A two-year, $10 million contract has been suggested by local media, which is far too high of a price to pay for a declining player at a non-premium position.

Fri Dec 13 201313:09Jags list MJD doubtful; Shorts questionable
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 15.
Jordan Todman will get the start against Buffalo's bottom-ten run defense. MJD initially expressed hope he'd be able to play through his hamstring strain when injuring it two Thursday nights ago, but he's an aging player with piling-up workloads and a slower recovery period than earlier in his career. The Jaguars are very likely to struggle to generate offense in Week 15 against the Bills. Cecil Shorts (groin, questionable) is also beat up.

Fri Dec 13 201311:58Jones-Drew (hamstring) not practicing Friday
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) is not practicing Friday.
Jones-Drew was targeting a Friday return all along. It wasn't in the cards. He doesn't need to practice in order to play on Sundays, but MJD is shaping up as a true game-time decision. It's also possible he could be ruled out at some point this weekend. Jordan Todman will start if MJD can't play.

Thu Dec 12 201312:22Jones-Drew doesn't practice, as expected
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) is not practicing Thursday, as expected.
Jones-Drew isn't scheduled to test his pulled hammy until Friday. At that point, we'll have a much clearer idea on his Week 15 status. For now, consider MJD very questionable and speedy backup Jordan Todman a risky but reasonable RB2 plug-n-play.

Wed Dec 11 201312:58Jones-Drew not sounding confident on hammy
Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) said he hopes to play in Sunday's game against the Bills, but didn't sound overly confident.
Jones-Drew won't try to practice until Friday. As of now, it sounds like he's still feeling plenty of soreness in his hammy and is doubting his ability to be near 100 percent for Sunday. Owners should have already been exploring other options, including speedy backup Jordan Todman.

Fri Dec 6 201323:25MJD (hamstring) promises to play in Week 15
After receiving the results of Friday's MRI, Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) promised he will play in Week 15 against the Bills.
Jones-Drew suffered the hamstring injury in Thursday night's win over the Texans. Set for free agency in 2014, MJD doesn't want to miss out on any of his final chances to impress in 2013. "It's what we, I think, what we figured out was just a strained hamstring," Jones-Drew said. "I've played with those before so it's not that big of a deal. You just have to get the necessary treatments and things done so you can get back and get on the field for Sunday." MJD will be an RB2 if he's indeed cleared to start against Buffalo.

Fri Dec 6 201310:01Jones-Drew to undergo MRI on hamstring Friday
Maurice Jones-Drew will undergo an MRI on his injured right hamstring Friday.
Jones-Drew left midway through the fourth quarter after injuring his hammy at the end of a 15-yard catch-and-run. He had his best game of the season Thursday night against Houston, totaling 123 yards on 16 touches. MJD will have ten days to rest up for the Bills, but hamstring injuries are tricky issues for runners. Jordan Todman would handle lead-back duties in Jones-Drew's absence.

Thu Dec 5 201323:20Jones-Drew leaves game with hamstring injury
Maurice Jones-Drew was forced from Jacksonville's Week 14 game against the Texans with a right hamstring injury.
Jones-Drew was officially deemed "questionable" upon going down midway through the fourth quarter, but had the looks of a player who was done for the night as he limped to the locker room. MJD blew a tire finishing off a 15-yard catch and run. Jones-Drew was having one of his best games of the season before going down, rushing 14 times for 103 yards while adding 20 yards on two catches. The 100-yard day on the ground was his first of 2013, while a tackle-breaking, 48-yard scamper in the third quarter was his longest rush of the year. Jordan Todman is now in at running back for the Jaguars.

Thu Nov 28 201309:46Jags liking timeshare between MJD and Todman
OC Jedd Fisch suggested that the timeshare between Maurice Jones-Drew and Jordan Todman will continue.
In the Week 12 win at Houston, Jones-Drew got 20 touches and Todman got 12. When asked about the prospects of a committee going forward, Fisch said, "I think that would be a really good setup for us." Even MJD seems fine with the plan as he enters a contract year. "In the fourth quarter, I was fresher than I've ever been," he said. Facing a talented Browns front seven on the road this week with the prospects of a timeshare looming, Jones-Drew is just a weak RB2.

Tue Nov 26 201321:46Jags GM: 'Realistic possibility' MJD re-signs
Appearing on 1010 Jacksonville on Tuesday evening, Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said there's a "realistic possibility" the team re-signs free-agent-to-be Maurice Jones-Drew.
That's about all Caldwell offered up on the matter. Jones-Drew is in the final year of a five-year, $30.95 million deal and will turn 29 in March. He's started all 11 games this season and has rushed 171 times for 539 yards (3.2 YPC) and five touchdowns behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. It hasn't been all the line's fault. MJD has looked stiff and has displayed very little burst in his eighth season. He's unlikely to command much money on the open market and would be lucky to get the deal Steven Jackson got from the Falcons last offseason as a 29-year-old -- three years and $12 million with $4 million guaranteed. The Jaguars would be best suited to move on and keep getting younger.

Sun Nov 24 201317:41Maurice Jones-Drew totals 144 yards in win
Maurice Jones-Drew rushed 14 times for 84 yards and a touchdown in Jacksonville's Week 12 win over the Texans, adding six catches for 60 yards.
Both the rushing yards and yards from scrimmage were new season highs for MJD, while the touchdown was his third in three games. Buoyed by three rushes of 10 yards or longer, including a season-best 44-yard scamper in the second quarter, MJD upped his yards per carry from 2.89 to 3.15. Jones-Drew still displayed alarmingly little side-to-side burst, but was hard to bring down once he got a head of steam. This afternoon will almost certainly go down as his best game of the season. MJD will be a low-end RB2 against the Browns' stout defense in Week 13.

Mon Nov 18 201309:46Jones-Drew blames stacked box for woes
Maurice Jones-Drew blamed stacked boxes for his meager 23 yards on 14 carries in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
The Jaguars offense has gone in the tank without Justin Blackmon, leading to a frustrated Cecil Shorts and no creases for MJD. "They're loading the box to stop the run. It's frustrating. It's a challenge," Jones-Drew said. He has scored in back-to-back games, meaning the time is now to try to sell. Averaging a pathetic 2.89 YPC on the season, Jones-Drew isn't going to turn this thing around. He's lost a step or three and the Jags' passing game isn't going to spring to life.

Thu Nov 14 201317:56MJD back at Jaguars practice Thursday
Maurice Jones-Drew (knee) returned to Jaguars practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.
The Jags are just managing their 28-year-old back's legs, as they normally do. MJD is a borderline RB2 against the Cardinals' stout run defense.

Wed Nov 13 201316:12Jones-Drew held out of practice Wednesday
Maurice Jones-Drew (knee) did not practice Wednesday.
It's just a veteran day off. Jones-Drew had a season-high 21 carries for 41 yards in Sunday's win and will be a RB2/FLEX option for Week 11 against the Cardinals.

Thu Nov 7 201316:25Maurice Jones-Drew limited on Thursday
Maurice Jones-Drew (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice.
It's just a mechanism for limiting MJD's practice reps. He's good to go for Sunday's game against the Titans, where he'll be an RB2/3.

Sun Oct 27 201311:17Report: Jags 'very open' to Jones-Drew trade
According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, it's "widely known" that the Jaguars are "very open" to trading Maurice Jones-Drew.
Of course they are. Jones-Drew is in the final year of his contract and won't be back with the rebuilding Jags next year. They'd likely accept a mere late-round pick for him before Tuesday's deadline. However, La Canfora predictably reports that interest around the league is "scant." Jones-Drew and his $4.95M base salary are unlikely to go anywhere.
