Sat Jul 27 201320:18Dennis Pitta undergoes hip surgery
Dennis Pitta will undergo hip surgery on Saturday.
Pitta will at least miss the season opener against the Broncos after dislocating his hip in training camp and the fact that he required surgery means he's almost certainly dealing with a long-term injury. The Baltimore Sun reports Pitta will likely require a 3-4 month recovery timetable, so it's possible he could be a candidate for injured reserve/designated for return. Ed Dickson will take on a bigger role in his absence, but is an obvious downgrade for the Ravens offense.

Mon May 13 201315:38Ravens TE Dennis Pitta signs $2.023M tender
Ravens re-signed restricted free agent TE Dennis Pitta to a one-year, $2.023 million contract.
The sides may explore a long-term extension during the upcoming season, although it could also wait until 2014. Pitta is scheduled for unrestricted free agency next offseason. Pitta, 28 in June, set career highs in catches (61), yards (669), and touchdowns (7) in a breakout 2012 campaign. He finished as the No. 7 overall fantasy tight end. Pitta's production is likely to continue to increase in 2013 with Anquan Boldin gone to San Francisco.

Sat Apr 20 201316:32Dennis Pitta doesn't sign offer sheet
Restricted free agent TE Dennis Pitta did not sign an offer sheet with another team prior to Friday night's 12:00 AM ET deadline.
Pitta was the "subject of preliminary inquiries" from "more than one team" at the onset of free agency, but nothing developed thereafter. The soon-to-be 28-year-old was tendered at the second-round level, so a team signing him to an offer sheet was a long shot. With Anquan Boldin out of Baltimore, Pitta will likely see more intermediate targets come his way. Pitta scored eight touchdowns over his final 11 games last season, including the playoffs.

Fri Mar 15 201310:26Dennis Pitta has been receiving inquiries
Restricted free agent TE Dennis Pitta has been the subject of preliminary inquiries.
The Ravens took a bit of a risk when they tendered Pitta at the second-round level. According to beat writer Aaron Wilson, "more than one team" is showing interest. But when push comes to shove, it's unlikely that a club is willing to surrender a second-round pick and pay Pitta a hefty sum. It's why restricted free agents in the NFL almost never move. The Ravens need to retain Pitta as a slot-type receiver after trading away Anquan Boldin. The "move" tight end racked up 14 catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns during four playoff wins.

Mon Mar 11 201318:24Dennis Pitta a beneficiary of Boldin trade
ESPN's Jamison Hensley sees Dennis Pitta as a potential beneficiary of the Anquan Boldin trade.
Boldin played much like a tight end over the last couple years in Baltimore, catching most of his passes over the middle and in traffic. Perhaps the Ravens have eyes on turning Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson into a homeless man's version of Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. Pitta showed plenty of pass-catching chops last season, scoring 10 touchdowns in 20 games (including playoffs).

Mon Feb 4 201300:35Dennis Pitta goes for 26 yards, touchdown
Dennis Pitta caught four balls for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII win over the 49ers.
Pitta's second-quarter goal-line touchdown gave Baltimore a 14-3 lead. Other than the score and a nine-yard gain down the right sideline, Pitta was a surprisingly small factor on Super Bowl Sunday. A restricted free agent going on age 28, Pitta figures to receive a second-round tender after a breakout regular season. He'll return as a low-end TE1 in 2013 fantasy football.

Sun Feb 3 201317:11Ravens at full strength for Super Bowl XLVII
Dennis Pitta (thigh) and ILB Dannell Ellerbe (ankle) are active for Super Bowl XLVII against the 49ers.
The Ravens are at full strength for their second Super Bowl appearance since arriving in Baltimore in 1996. That's very important news for a team that's oscillated between being a four- to five-point underdog in betting circles. Pitta could become a major factor if the 49ers focus on taking away Joe Flacco's deep ball at the expense of everything else. Inactive for the Ravens are CB Asa Jackson, S Omar Brown, CB Chris Johnson, LB Adrian Hamilton, OL Ramon Harewood, WR Deonte Thompson and DT Bryan Hall.

The solid effort comes after Pitta combined for just five catches and 82 yards in Baltimore's first two playoff games. The Ravens are going to need strong efforts across the board to defeat the 49ers in the Super Bowl, but Pitta will be contending with a unit that allowed just 71 catches to enemy tight ends during the regular season.

Sat Jan 12 201321:49Dennis Pitta has three catches in win
Dennis Pitta caught three passes for 55 yards in Baltimore's Divisional Round win over the Broncos.
It was a quiet afternoon for Baltimore's No. 1 tight end, but he made one of the biggest plays of the game with the Ravens facing a 3rd-and-13 from their own three-yard line with 6:01 remaining, making a diving 24-yard catch in traffic. Pitta made just two catches for 27 yards in Baltimore's Wild Card win. He'll need to have a big day in next Sunday's AFC Championship Game if the Ravens are to advance to their first Super Bowl since 2000-01.

Dennis Pitta caught two passes for 27 yards and a touchdown against the Colts in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
A 46-yard grab by Anquan Boldin set up Pitta's 20-yard touchdown, aided by an incredible block from Torrey Smith. Pitta was limited to just the two targets on a day when Joe Flacco threw on 23 times. He has an excellent matchup next week against a Denver defense that he torched for a 7/125/2 stat line in a December meeting.

Dennis Pitta was held without a catch in his two series of play against the Bengals in Week 17.

He finished the season strong, catching 16 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns in Weeks 14-16, proving to be a top tight end for the fantasy playoffs. On the year, Pitta reeled in 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. We'll see the Ravens in the playoffs as the No. 3 or 4 seed next weekend.
