Fri Sep 6 201302:03Ed Dickson catches one pass in loss
Ed Dickson had a night to forget in Baltimore's Week 1 loss to the Broncos, catching just one pass for 13 yards.
All four of Dickson's other targets resulted in drops in an absolutely brutal performance. Joe Flacco gave Dickson opportunities to make plays over the middle of the field, and he failed to deliver time and again. Along with fellow replacement-level TE Dallas Clark, Dickson is going to draw targets because of the Ravens' shortage of pass catchers, but he's not going to do anything with them. You need to do better for fantasy purposes.

Wed Sep 4 201316:32Ed Dickson (hamstring) probable for opener
Ed Dickson (hamstring) is probable for Thursday night's opener versus Denver.
Dickson practiced in full all week. There was initially some doubt that he'd be ready for Week 1 after suffering a slight tear in his hamstring in early August. You can do a lot better than Dickson for your opening-week starter.

Tue Sep 3 201315:21Ed Dickson practicing in full this week
Ed Dickson (hamstring) is practicing in full ahead of Thursday's opener.
He should be listed as "probable" on Wednesday's injury report. Dickson is in for a major workload during Dennis Pitta's absence, but we wouldn't expect him to draw more than TE2 targets. You're in trouble if he's your Week 1 starter.

Mon Sep 2 201309:03Ed Dickson expected to be fine for opener
Ed Dickson (hamstring) is expected to be fine for Thursday's opener in Denver.
Dickson returned to practice more than a week ago. "He's running well, he's catching the ball well, he looks just as explosive as he did a few weeks ago before he was injured," OC Jim Caldwell said on August 26. Dickson will play every snap as a TE2 option this week. Dennis Pitta (hip) is headed for the short-term IR list and Dallas Clark will help on passing downs.

Tue Aug 20 201310:03Ed Dickson upbeat about Week 1 chances
Ed Dickson (hamstring) is "upbeat" about his chances of playing in Week 1.
Dickson returned to a limited practice on Monday and said he felt no soreness. The key now will be to ramp up his activity without sustaining a setback with his tricky hamstring pull. Dickson's fantasy upside is capped by his role as the Ravens' in-line tight end. They signed Dallas Clark to take the "move" reps.

Mon Aug 19 201315:56Ed Dickson returns to Ravens practice
Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) returned to practice Monday.
It was previously reported Dickson "most likely" wouldn't be ready for Week 1, but he appears to have beaten expectations of his recovery. Dickson remains unlikely to play in preseason. He still has an outside shot at low-end TE1 value.

Tue Aug 13 201315:13Ravens TE Ed Dickson likely out for Week 1
ESPN's Chris Mortensen stated on NFL Insiders Tuesday that Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) "most likely won't be ready for the opener."
The Ravens' fears about the severity of Dickson's hamstring tear were essentially confirmed when they signed Dallas Clark. Look for Clark to open the season as Baltimore's "move" tight end, with Visanthe Shiancoe playing on the line in two-tight end packages. Once a somewhat popular fantasy sleeper, Dickson is no longer worth consideration in standard re-draft leagues.

Mon Aug 12 201308:38Dickson (hamstring) unsure of Week 1 status
Ravens TE Ed Dickson (torn hamstring) is uncertain if he'll be ready for Week 1.
Coach John Harbaugh had previously said Dickson wasn't in danger of missing Week 1. "You can't rush back those things," Dickson said. "I want to get back out there today, but I don't want to go out and hurt the team and be out for weeks during the regular season." The Ravens' Sunday signing of Dallas Clark suggests they agree with Dickson's assessment. What little sleeper appeal Dickson had in the wake of Dennis Pitta's injury is gone.

Mon Aug 5 201317:03Ed Dickson will miss 'a week or so'
Ravens TE Ed Dickson will miss "a week or so" of training camp due to a hamstring injury.
He went down in Sunday's practice. A Monday MRI showed a "slight tear" of Dickson's hamstring, which can be a tricky injury. The Ravens are woefully thin at tight end after also losing Dennis Pitta. Visanthe Shiancoe, Matt Furstenburg, Alex Silvestro, and Billy Bajema are next on the depth chart.

Fri Aug 2 201321:53Ed Dickson taking over as Ravens 'move' TE
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are using Ed Dickson in Dennis Pitta's old "move" tight end role in training camp practices.
Although Dickson is athletic enough for the role, he's never played with the same kind of short-area movement as Pitta and will be a tougher sell as Baltimore's primary possession receiver. Dickson has also always battled drops and inconsistency. It's still a big opportunity in Dickson's contract year. In his career, Dickson has managed just 10.5 yards per reception and six touchdowns on 86 catches. Dickson has an outside chance at back-end TE1 value.

Sun Jul 28 201322:21Ed Dickson's receiving role to expand?
Ravens contract-year TE Ed Dickson is expected to take on a "larger receiving role" with Dennis Pitta lost for the season.
Dickson came out of Oregon known as an athlete, but he's been a bit of a plodder in the pros and played mostly an in-line position, running far fewer pass routes than his injured teammate. With Visanthe Shiancoe on the roster, Dickson could split out into the slot more this year. We still wouldn't anticipate more than unsteady high-end to mid-range TE2 value from 6-foot-4, 255-pound Dickson.

Fri May 31 201310:38Ravens TE Dickson finally signs RFA tender
Ravens re-signed restricted free agent TE Ed Dickson to a one-year, $1.32 million deal.
Dickson didn't draw an offer sheet before the April 19 deadline, so signing his tender was his only choice if he wanted to play football this season. The Ravens' No. 2 pass-catching tight end, Dickson slumped to a 21/225/0 line last season after catching 54 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns in 2011. He's not going to make a fantasy impact in 2013.

Wed May 22 201315:49Unsigned RFA Dickson taking part in OTAs
Ravens restricted free agent Ed Dickson has signed an offseason participation agreement to participate in OTAs.
It's a sign Dickson will soon ink his tender, or perhaps sign off on a multi-year deal. Assistant GM Eric DeCosta recently singled out Dickson as a player the Ravens expect to "take a step forward this season." Dickson has yet to be a consistent fantasy threat in his three-year career, and that won't change in 2013.

Tue May 7 201309:42DeCosta high on Dickson's chances in 2013
Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta singled out Ed Dickson as a player he expects to take a step forward this season.
The Ravens haven't yet replaced Anquan Boldin at the No. 2 wideout spot. "We've got some tight ends who can pick up the slack," DeCosta said. "Ed Dickson made some big plays last year in the Super Bowl, really played his best football in the playoffs. ... We really think this is his chance to become a really good tight end in the NFL." Dickson caught just six passes for 90 yards and no touchdowns in four playoff games. Dennis Pitta has shown far more pass-catching chops.

Mon Mar 11 201319:12Ed Dickson to get low tender from Ravens
The Ravens are expected to extend an original-pick tender to restricted free agent Ed Dickson.
Dickson was a third-round pick in 2010, so he'll be safe. After a promising sophomore season in which he tallied 528 yards and five touchdowns, Dickson answered it up in 2012 with just 21 grabs for 225 yards and no scores. He could be in for an expanded role with Anquan Boldin's departure, but we wouldn't bank on a big season.

Mon Feb 4 201300:08Dickson limited to 37 yards in Super Bowl
Ravens TE Ed Dickson caught two passes for 37 yards in Sunday's Super Bowl 47 loss to the 49ers.
Not an oft-used receiver, Dickson made a terrific back-shoulder catch on a tough throw from Joe Flacco for 23 yards. On the same second-quarter drive, Dickson drew a facemask flag on 49ers SS Donte Whitner, giving Baltimore first-and-goal at the three-yard line to set up Dennis Pitta's one-yard touchdown catch. An impending restricted free agent, Dickson will likely receive an original-pick tender and return as the blocking complement to Pitta in 2013.

Sun Dec 30 201216:45Dickson leads Ravens with six catches in loss
Ed Dickson led the Ravens with six catches for 64 yards in Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Bengals.
Dickson saw a team-high eight targets on the afternoon with the Ravens resting their starters after two series of action in the first quarter. After catching 54 passes for five touchdowns in 2011, the No. 2 tight end reeled in just 21 passes for 225 yards and no scores this season. Dickson appeared in 13 games. He'll revert back to backup duties when the Ravens host the Colts next week in the opening round of the playoffs.
