Sun Oct 14 201215:19Bilal Powell done for day w/ shoulder injury
Bilal Powell left Sunday's Week 6 game against the Colts with a shoulder injury and will not return.
Powell went down in the third quarter and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the day. He had four rushes for 14 yards and a one-yard reception before leaving. Joe McKnight came on as Shonn Greene's backup and broke off a 61-yard run near the end of the third quarter.

Tue Oct 9 201209:42Bilal Powell out-snaps Greene again
Bilal Powell played more snaps than Shonn Greene for the second straight week Monday night.
Powell saw 25 snaps while Greene was at 24. In Week 4, Powell played 32 snaps compared to 18 for the "starter." We have a committee spearheaded by two below-average runners operating behind a struggling offensive line. Neither one projects as a real fantasy asset going forward.

Tue Oct 9 201200:50Powell and Greene split snaps in loss
Bilal Powell rushed four times for 18 yards in Week 5 against the Texans.
Powell, unofficially, played 24 snaps to Shonn Greene's 23. The fact that the Jets were within striking distance for the entire game, the running back situation is turning into a timeshare. Powell plays on most, if not all, passing downs. Neither running back has been particularly productive on the ground, but Greene has been abysmal, yet continues to start.

Mon Oct 1 201212:41Bilal Powell logs heavy snaps in blowout
Bilal Powell played on 32-of-53 offensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the 49ers.
Shonn Greene saw just 18 snaps. Obviously, the count is skewed because the Jets fell behind 17-0 after three quarters and Powell is the passing-down back. But Powell is going to keep putting pressure on the starter simply because Greene has been consistently ineffective. It's a "hands off" backfield for a Week 5 matchup with the Texans.

Wed Sep 26 201210:03Bilal Powell played on 44 percent of snaps
Bilal Powell played on 44 percent of the snaps in the Jets' Week 3 win over the Dolphins.
Compare that with 61 percent for Shonn Greene, who is averaging 2.8 yards per carry with a long of 14 yards this season. Although Greene will continue to start, coach Rex Ryan is finally admitting that a committee approach may be coming. Regardless, this entire backfield is hands off against the 49ers' rugged run defense in Week 4.

Sun Sep 16 201220:48Bilal Powell racks up 33 yards
Bilal Powell rushed nine times for 33 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
He was held without a catch. Powell racked up 10 more yards than starter Shonn Greene on two fewer carries, but still wasn't terribly impressive, gaining more than three yards just four times. He out-touched Joe McKnight 9-to-1, however, and is clearly New York's No. 2 back. For now, however, that doesn't translate into fantasy value.

Thu Sep 6 201212:31Rex: No clear-cut No. 2 runner behind Greene
Coach Rex Ryan said there's "no clear cut" No. 2 running back behind Shonn Greene.
Bilal Powell has won the third-down job, but a Joe McKnight isn't out of the picture just yet. If Greene were to go down, Powell would act as the pounder and McKnight as the change-of-pace option in a committee-style attack.

Mon Aug 27 201210:42Bilal Powell locked in as third-down back
Bilal Powell was once again used as the first-string third-down back in Sunday's preseason game.
Powell has the job locked up, but he has just one catch through three preseason games. The Jets are asking him to protect the passer on third downs, not leak out of the backfield. Powell hasn't been able to siphon any early-down work from starter Shonn Greene yet.

Sun Aug 12 201210:52Powell works as Jets primary third-down back
Jets RB Bilal Powell was in the game for all four of the starting offense's third downs in Friday's preseason opener.
It's a clear sign that Powell is leading Joe McKnight in the race for third-down duties. McKnight was the more productive of the two, but work primarily with the second-team offense, while also seeing action with the third string. If he hangs on to the job, Powell will be a deep sleeper in PPR formats.

Tue Aug 7 201218:13Bilal Powell looks like best back on field
Bilal Powell has often looked like "the best back on the field" in Jets camp.
Coach Rex Ryan has been singling out Powell for praise on a semi-daily basis. "At the rate he's going, it would be a surprise if he doesn't leap-frog Joe McKnight on the depth chart," says beat writer Rich Cimini. We're just as anxious to see if Powell eats into Shonn Greene's workload as the season goes along.

Thu Aug 2 201219:11Bilal Powell picking up first-team reps
Bilal Powell is "having a nice camp, even getting some reps with the first team," according to ESPN New York.
Shonn Greene is in no danger of losing the Week 1 starting job, but Powell could be nipping at his heals if he reprises his early-season struggles from a year ago. In the meantime, Powell has a pass-protection edge on Joe McKnight in the battle for third-down duties. Coach Rex Ryan suggested Powell's rookie-season struggles are part of a start-slow/finish-strong pattern going back to Louisville.

Mon Jul 30 201208:55Bilal Powell in the mix for third-down work?
Jets RB Bilal Powell is reportedly in the mix for third-down work.
Powell didn't impress us as a rookie in 2011, showing little burst and fumbling once in the two games he appeared in. We highly doubt he'll work his way past Joe McKnight for third-down duties, even if he is a better pass-protector.

Tue Nov 22 201112:52Bilal Powell out with illness
Jets RB Bilal Powell missed Tuesday's workout due to an illness.
With Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson sidelined for most of last week's loss to Denver, Powell got eight touches. He managed just 18 total yards and fumbled near the goal line. The rookie will likely be inactive this week if Greene and Tomlinson suit up.

Fri Nov 18 201100:44Powell underwhelming with 18 yards in debut
Bilal Powell was held to 11 yards on seven carries and seven yards on one reception against the Broncos in Week 11.
An inauspicious NFL debut for the fourth-rounder. Though it was a small sample size, Powell showed no burst whatsoever and failed to hit holes. He was bailed out on a goal-line fumble when LG Matt Slausen fell on the ball for a touchdown. Don't bother picking up Powell in redraft formats.

Fri Nov 11 201111:46Rookie RB Powell yet to dress for a game
Rookie RB Bilal Powell has yet to dress for a game this season.
Powell is well behind Joe McKnight in the backfield pecking order. Coach Rex Ryan mentioned the fourth-rounder as a potential injury replacement on kickoff returns, but that's a longshot. McKnight (toe) will attempt to practice Friday, with Antonio Cromartie as the primary fallback option.

Sun Oct 23 201111:46Jets declare inactives for Week 7
Jets declared RB Bilal Powell, DE Mike DeVito, C Colin Baxter, QB Kevin O'Connell, OLB Garrett McIntyre, WR Eron Riley, and CB Isaiah Trufant inactive for Week 7.
All-Pro C Nick Mangold is active, as expected. Rookie Kenrick Ellis will get the start in place of DeVito. Powell still hasn't come close to cracking the running back rotation. He seems well behind Joe McKnight.

Sun Sep 18 201111:46NY declare inactives, Holmes & Harris active
Jets declared RB Bilal Powell, QB Kevin O'Connell, WR Logan Payne, S Emanuel Cook, G Caleb Schlauderaff, OL Rob Turner, and DT Kenrick Ellis inactive for Week 2 against Jacksonville.
Santonio Holmes will be active on the offensive side of the ball. David Harris and Eric Smith will both suit up for the defense. Powell - who is focusing on special teams for the outset of the season - won't be a fantasy factor until 2012, at the earliest. No surprises here for the Jets.

Wed Sep 7 201109:07Powell to focus on special teams
Rookie RB Bilal Powell will focus on special teams at the outset of the season.
Powell is fourth on the depth chart behind Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson and Joe McKnight. He rushed 28 times for 62 yards (2.2 YPC) in the preseason, but remains a solid long-term prospect. Tomlinson will be a free agent after this season.
